One highlight I did want to point out for the Cru was the play of Teidrick Smith. Not only did he block 2 passes, a field goal, and a punt, he had 3 sacks in the game which tied the record for sacks in a season at 13 with at least 2 games left in the season. Also that brings his career total to 31.5 so he could possibly break the career record as a junior which is 34.

Wow!!!! What an epic game.   I for one was exhausted as fan I think I regained consciousness about an hour ago.  Thank you to the cru nation for the congratulatory remarks posted after the game.  My son is a freshman so all this is new to me, but I now know that you guys are a class act.  Let's win out, I would be shocked if we both do not make the playoffs (but I guess stranger things have happened). It would be a shame for the  two of us to meet in round one or two, because i believe We both should be ranked in the top of the polls and would mean an early exit for a really good team.  Just my opinion though.  Once again, very classy Cru fans, much respect.
since you are new to this, you might not know that there is a nightmare scenario in which HSU has a let down and let's ETBU get them next week, while UMHB wins out leaving a 3 way tie for 1st and no AQ. So, the most important thing is for HSU to stay focused and tcob. Assuming both win out, UMHB will probably be back in Abilene in 3 weeks. a few years ago they did split UMHB and McMurry up in round one, but three Texas teams got in so they could. that's not happening this season.

Only new to the HSU/UMHB rivalry, not new to football.  I could see were my post would appear I am assuming we are already in although I did say "let's win out", and I realize there are no AQ and nothing is guaranteed, trust me I full well know the impoortance of next week because it is the next game on our schedule, I don't see this team having a let down, this coaching staff allowing a let down against ETBU. We must take care of business as you said.  WeRideWeWin
my remarks were specific to the rivalry. The ASC has had a few funky end of season scenarios that were the result was a 3 way tie. 03 is the best example because etbu beat UMHB UMHB beat HSU and HSU beat etbu so all had 1 loss. ETBU got the AQ because of the tie breaker and both UMHB and HSU were left out of the party. The same potential exists right now. ETBU AND HSU are tied so a let down loss would set up a UMHB ETBU game to potentially split the championship 3 ways. That would not be good for UMHB or HSU because ETBU has a bad loss to McM and a loss to TLU. Since playoffs are chosen by committee rather than AQ, that could hurt both schools chances

I know Coach Burleson and all HSU Coaches and Players have long moved on to ETBU.  They enjoyed the victory on Saturday and Sunday began ETBU.

I hope you're right, minni. I don't have any friends currently on the coaching staff so I don't have the inside scoop. Coach Burleson is doing a great job and this is a team with a ton of seniors so hopefully they have that maturity, but when it comes to the selection committee I have no trust. Leave no doubt Cowboys, its better for the whole conference.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

He is an absolute beast!  I am surprised he still had any jersey left at the end of the game after some of the holds I saw but he is an absolute force on the defensive side of the ball.

He was incredible. Made play after play in first half but seemed to be "controlled" better in the second half. He is very fast as well. Chased down offensive players from behind a couple times

I haven't seen much discussion about ETBU. Any thoughts?  Do they give HSU or UMHB any trouble the next couple of weeks?

RLW

I do not think HSU or UMHB will have a problem beating ETBU. However when you do beat them do not expect a handshake line at the end of the game. They did not shake the players or coaches hands after the TLU game. Very Very poor sportsmanship. What an example set for the players, spectators, fans, and young future players. I saw one player come out and shake a couple of hands, and a ETBU coach directed him back to the sideline.

DFWCrufan

Yeah RLW I saw that too. it bothered me that TLU Lined up and they just refused (ETBU) Personally after the way we were yelled at when we went to ETBU last year (You all sit on one side) I was shocked I mean, yeah the games are a tough match but like Saturday, at HSU, the fans were alright (Yeah and a win didn't hurt But still) and we never had any problems,  the TLU peeps seem ok after our games N all and haven't had a bad experience at the Cruthedral even after the linfield game, I was talking with a Linfield fan and wished them all the best, they said they loved the trip. but i have just found that for some reason the atmosphere at ETBU is just mean, at least that is what my family experienced. So I would advise this to HSU, because when you trounce them (And you wil) line up.. if they deny, then just walk across to your fans in the stands.
Do it Cowboys... Do It CRU....both programs Leave NO doubt

Good enough to be dangerous with HSU coming off an emotional win.  I think they are the kind of team that if you kill their will early it will be a double digit win, but if you let them hang around and think they are in it you will be in a dog fight.  I think our coaches will not allow the Cowboys to take anything for granted, we must leave no doubt.  I have no real facts to go off of just a gut feeling if theY and their coaches are truly unsportsmanlike with the hand shake and all as was mentioned in other posts.  I've seen those type teams before and that is usually the case, in it as long as you allow them to be In it.  Jmo.

QuoteThe fans are spoiled, and half the time they are on phones or reading a book. I hate to say it, but it's the truth.

It can't be the size of the stadium, right?  I've never seen a Texas high school game but they're loud I understand. Course, those are big stadiums too.

my high school stadium in high school in the 80s was approximately the same size as Crusader Stadium. I think it may have more to do with the historical makeup of the school.figure for the 1st 160 years of the school no one was going for football. to change the vibe in the stadium the younger alumni are going to have to push that change.

Agreed. On both accounts.

Schools with deeply rooted fan bases have been playing for some time. The fans that travel to away games are loud and raucous. Those are the core fans. More grads at games will help, but not many stick around. I don't know. It's unfortunate.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!
