So eliminating the music department would solve this issue? Ok, count me in ;)
imagine the backlash if the UMHB music department was scheduled for elimination  :o :o

Count me as part of the hypothetical backlash.  It would be a straight-up travesty, and it would ensure my wife and I not contributing to the UMHB Alumni Association.  Thankfully, this is not gonna happen.  In fact, they are about to break ground on a new performing arts center.

Back on topic, no surprise that the Cru will be facing the Cowboys again.  Should be another great game.  I don't know if I can make it (again...) but I'll definitely be there in spirit.

Sorry about my poor attempt at sarcasm.

Oh it's fine.  Really.  I could tell you were joking by the smiley face.  Music happens to be a passion of mine, so it's hard for me to ignore things sometimes.  No harm, no foul.

it wasn't a poor attempt. it just made me think about how ugly it could get if someone did suggest that.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

+K's all around.

It's a slight derailment, I know, but these kinds of things are important to mention for perspective's sake.  When the discussion turns toward the cursed NCAA for not paying for more flights in the D3 playoffs, we have to remind ourselves that the NCAA revenue is the only reason we can have these playoffs at all.  From an institutional standpoint, it would be unreasonable to ask all football-playing Division III schools to commit the willingness to travel for as many playoff games as necessary should they get selected, and things like this are why.  My fiancee is a music professor, and I work in an academic setting; if I learned that the D3 school I support was going to set aside $100K from the university coffers for the football team's playoff travel budget while canning a tenured faculty member or two to bring the budget into balance, I'd be pretty salty about that.

Point is...it's a tough world, and a Texas rematch is probably going to happen in the D3 playoffs almost every year, and stopping that altogether would (at least in some capacity) require compromising the balance of academic priorites vs. athletic priorities throughout Division III.

Agreed on all points, however I would like to personally thank Pat Coleman for his words on the podcast. Numerous times he flat out said the ASC gets screwed by the playoff committee/NCAA. As I have said I think most people on this board understand the reasoning but that doesn't make it any more tolerable this time of year and I take some comfort in knowing the frustration is still felt at his level.

Okay, now that the brackets are out I'm happy the UMHB was selected to move onto post-season. But, I'm still trying to figure out how Whitewater was able to host a first round game, but UMHB wasn't. I think that UMHB is the top four in the south bracket, but they are hitting the road.

It's the geography, man.  UMHB and HSU were ALWAYS going to play in the first round.  HSU is ranked ahead of UMHB, so the game is going to be at HSU.  If UMHB wins, pretty decent shot they'll definitely host round 2.

I know this is one of those arguments that's worthless to have at this point, but I think should at least be brought up, shouldn't UMHB be ranked ahead of HSU in the regional rankings and hosting the playoff game? I understand that HSU beat UMHB head to head in a tight game, but if we consider any larger of a circle than that game, UMHB looks like the superior team. I think UMHB got hurt by the timing of everything.

Imagine a world where TLU smokes ETBU 55-27 in week five, then UMHB smokes ETBU 67-20, while HSU beats TLU 35-27 in week 6, and then HSU loses 27-21 to ETBU while UMHB is beating TLU 48-20 in week 7, before HSU beats UMHB 29-26 in week 8.

If those real results from this season happened in a slightly different order don't we assume throughout the process that UMHB is the best of the four teams and ETBU is the worst with HSU and TLU in the middle and maybe a slight nod to HSU for the win over TLU.

If you consider just the three ASC c-champs UMHB is +44 compared to HSU at -3.
Adding SCAC champ TLU into the mix UMHB is +72 while HSU is +5.

I think UMHB got hurt by the first RR coming out right after UMHB lost to HSU and that the committee never really considered switching the two, even though they probably should have.

So I was at the ETBU game and I sat on the enemi...er.. Opposition side, (I think I saw Kelly Boggs over there, it looked like him, he cheered bigtime a touchdown so yeah I thought it was him) and just basked in the joy of the win, cheeirng very loud and of course commenting and the occasional ETBU good play here and there. (there was stunned silence on the first play touchdown in the game) But I had to just say this, and this is directed towards the fans who were there, a bunch of ETBU fans were standing around at the end saying "I don't know how this happened, We don't see UMHB being all that good, we don't see it"
Now, I've been a bit ciritical on the O line during the season, but no one, no one can deny they were on absolute fire that night, it was the Cru of old on that field, dominating, fast, strong, just clicking perfectly.

So I had to do this, (Father forgive me for this) but I had to turn and say.. no mud...

I know I know.. your raising your right hand and smashing it into the screen of your mointor, cursing me and my gender identification perhaps, but it could have been worse, I could have yelled....MONKEYSTOMP! but I held back

From what I can tell UMHB really wants the rematch with HSU. I believe there will be a very different outcome in Abilene on Saturday from what it was two weeks ago.

Don't worry, I won't be there to jinx the CRU this time and will take full credit if they win.

I was hoping to see you in Abilene, Jack. If you are around for the second round, you'll have to come down to the CRUthedral. Breakfast is on me.

No, they shouldn't have. Same records, HSU has a better SOS and the head-to-head win. Cut and dried.

I agree that they shouldn't have switched.  HSU won h2h and that's it.  I believe UMHB will drill them this week, but HSU deserved the higher playoff seed for sure.  If you begin to think things like "UMHB blasted the team that beat HSU therefore they should be the higher team," or "HSU only lost to ETBU due to the field conditions so that game shouldn't have an impact" then why would the committee not think "TLU lost to HSU very late in the game and lost to UMHB as a result of 4 plays that resulted in TD's so they should be in too".  That opens too many doors.  You win or lose, period.

The rematch worked out ok for the Cru in 2004.  Hope it does again!

This Saturday is going to be a great close game. For people putting a lot of stock on ETBU lose to MHB and HSU lose to them is just foolish. ETBU was better on THAT day. However, HSU is a passing team and conditions made for a running offense. Watching the game I wonder if HSU P/K getting hurt was the difference. ETBU started most of their drives in the second half on HSU side of the field mostly between the 30 and 40. With that said, this game will come down to the performance of HSU front seven and MHB secondary just like the last game. HSU front seven must play great for an HSU victory. Watching both teams this year that battle can go any way. MHB secondary must stop the HSU passing attack. This leans more towards HSU than the Cru. When facing a passing team the CRU secondary is the weakness. MHB does have a great pass rush, but against HSU WRS were open faster than the pass rush could get there in previous meetings. If the Cru secondary can't step up then the QB and WR's must. From what I've seen this year, that is not MHB strong suit. Most on here blames the Cru QB for this, but I've seen MHB WR's drop a lot of balls this year. Trying to be unbias this game is to close to call. However, my gut feeling is going to be HSU by 7.  Now for the few CRUBAbies on here moaning about MHB should be hosting and throwing numbers based on three games here is some numbers back at Yea. Both teams are 9-1. HSU SOS is was 37 in nation at .543 MHB SOS was 119 in nation at .502. They both went 2-1 against regional rank opponets. HSU beat MHB in regular season. Why should MHB host against HSU now? For the ones making plans for the second round of the playoffs for MHB I hope the players don't think like you are this game will go to HSU. Final thought is no one side can say they will dominate and win. This is going to be a great game. ;)
