I agree that they shouldn't have switched.  HSU won h2h and that's it.  I believe UMHB will drill them this week, but HSU deserved the higher playoff seed for sure.  If you begin to think things like "UMHB blasted the team that beat HSU therefore they should be the higher team," or "HSU only lost to ETBU due to the field conditions so that game shouldn't have an impact" then why would the committee not think "TLU lost to HSU very late in the game and lost to UMHB as a result of 4 plays that resulted in TD's so they should be in too".  That opens too many doors.  You win or lose, period.

I think UMHB got hurt by the first RR coming out right after UMHB lost to HSU and that the committee never really considered switching the two, even though they probably should have.

No, they shouldn't have. Same records, HSU has a better SOS and the head-to-head win. Cut and dried.

Pat, arguing with a UMHB fan about HSU being better is pointless.  It always an excuse.  Most have been making them since the loss.  Some have given credit to HSU, most have stated complacency, or they just weren't ready.  Hell MU has won 100+ regular season games in a row, nobody crying complacency up there.  Get over your high and mighty "look at me, I'm UMHB" self.  Can't wait to hear the excuses Saturday night after a loss.

Saturday, No excuses allowed.

One exception to the no excuses right? I seem to have seen some about rain lately.

Anyone know if UMHB film crew will be broadcasting? or just HSU? so far I only see live stats and audio for this game, anyone know? I'd rather hear John and Coach on play by, and usually the synch is off from another broadcast.

UMHB will connect to HSU's live stream, but our audio link will be Jon Wallin and George Haffner.  It should be a great (and very chilly) game!

Never once did I make an excuse about the rain or the mud.  Best I remember ETBU played in the same conditions.  They were better, that day at that time.  Play them 9 more times and I bet they don't win.  But they did that day.

All of us didn't make excuses about UMHB losing to HSU either, HSU won fair and square. They earned the right to host the game and we will see who is better that day.

Just my two cents, I do not recall very many cru fans making excuses after the first meeting, many many compliments if I recall.

It does surprise me at the number of folks that don't seem to be giving HSU a chance (d3football.com) and placing a lot of clout on the ETBU results of both teams.

I for one am practical and basing my opinion on the only one true factor the head to head meeting, which was a very closely contested game in which neither team was flat, complacent, or played sloppy.  It was two very good teams going toe to toe round after round.

I expect the same atmosphere Saturday.

My keys to the game for both sides.

UMHB must be able to run the ball against the frontline of HSU, it's just seems there has  been inconsistency in the passing game to rely on it, only basing this off of what some have commented on in past games with Qb play and dropped balls, please correct me if I am wrong.

HSU I don't think will be able to run the ball as effectively and must be able to throw.  Our Qb has to be able to come off his first read (Ramos) and find the other open receivers. They were also open in the first game, however can't fault him for finding Ramos cause it worked.   I have to think the Cru will not allow that again, thus he will need to be able to go to the second and third looks.

Both teams will need to take care of the ball and execute in the special teams
Which brings me to what I think hopefully will not decide the game, HSU lost their kicker and one extra point may decide this thing.

Just my two cents.   Hoping for a great game and safe travels, as always praying for health of players.  I can see it going either way but I am HSUDAD, so HSU 35-31......

Some people are more outspoken than others, and that can translate to harsh words, excuses, trolling, etc.  I don't really engage in those things, but I get why it happens and don't really fault people for it.  We're all passionate to some degree.

I fully expect the Cru/Cowboys game to be a competitive one, much like the last meeting.  I do have UMHB winning in my pick 'em, but hey, I'm a fan.  It's unfortunate one of these teams will be going home after Saturday.  That's how it goes, though.

Wow didn't see people so sensitive to a joke. Sorry. Anyhow, I never been a fan of the two qb system either. I believe some players need time in a game to get into their grove. Ramos reminds me of Kirk Rodgers a lot. The guy is a beast. The DE from MHB believe his name is Jackson is also a beast. I love his aggression. These teams (whoever wins) I think is a darkhorse to go to the Stagg.

UMHB has done the 2 QB system almost since its inception, so get used to it.
im used to it but still don't like it
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

DFWCrufan

HSUDad, let's face it, the slop did not go in your favor, both teams were in it, but I watched that game and it was such a bloody mess that linemen looked like they were dancing, slipping all over the place. The verious attacks HSU use could not be employed and it was just a suc game. It's hard to say but I will, that killed HSU's game I don't think it was especially ETBU that did that. There, I know people may say you play the environment too and overcome and that is true, but it hampered one side far more then the other. How do I say that, the quick lead by ETBU was crushed as the Cowboys caught up, and as the rain kept falling things got flat and stagnant. Your Qb still delivered and passes were like throwing a 5 pound bag of flour, in and out of hands.
So as I "Said to" a few ETBU fans at the crushing of the tigers at the cruthedral when they asked what happend I could only respond.. No Mud.. The cowboys in my opinion are a far better team than ETBU, the slop just did not go your way.

HSU and MHB is a big rivalry. Each team has respect for the other, but they don't like the other. I'm curious if many know how the rivalry began on here. Unless your old school you might not know when and why. Can anybody guess when and why? I can answer it lol.

I don't think this is accurate.  I don't remember the 2 QB system coming around until the last few years since Anderson started.

I know MHB used one QB the first three years and a few years after that.

From what I can remember, the dual QB system has been a thing at UMHB for a while. With a few exceptions. This really started back in 2004 when Padron(the starter to begin the year) went down and the freshman Josh Welch had to take over. Even when Padron came back and was healthy in the playoffs they still rotated drives(all the way to the Stagg Bowl). Years after that it was still used pretty frequently, I think after Padron graduated Welch had a few years as the lone starter by himself, and I know Lidarell Bailey was the lone starter for at least his junior and senior seasons...

Idk there may have been some other years where we didn't rotate QBs but I can't think of any specific seasons. I don't particularly like it either.. It would be nice to have one guy that could do it all and that we could rely on to be consistent but maybe we are better right now if we keep these two in competition..
