I realize many have moved on from Saturday, but I need to say Congrats to both teams for the success they have had this year.  I was in attendance for a majority of the game on Saturday.  I left early about mid way through the 4th as the little guy was getting cold and I was getting frustrated.  The HSU defense got flat wore out.  The UMHB defense did what they had to do in getting the HSU offense off the field and the UMHB offense just wore the HSU defense out.

I was concerned at 20-7 in the second half, but thought if HSU fixed a few things I didn't think they were out of yet especially getting the wind in the 4th quarter.  HSU's offense needed desperately to sustain a drive and give the defense a break but the UMHB defense was not having it.  Turnovers, turnovers and turnovers.  Questionable decisions by HSU players and a much better UMHB defense in the second half led to the demise of HSU.

Congrats and good luck to UMHB the rest of the playoffs.(I say this through gritted teeth)

I really look forward to next season, minni.  HSU's resurgence is great for the league.  It would not surprise me at all if a similar scenario plays out again next year.

On that note Minni, what is your feeling on how the Cowboys will move forward? If nothing else replacing Jessie Ramos will be extremely difficult but Sloan and numerous members of that powerful D line will also be gone.

My feeling was this team was "old".  Lots of available positions going to be open to compete for starting this spring.  But, I have no doubt coach Burleson and his crew will get these guys ready to compete at an extremely high level.

John Thorne has a dislocated knee and is done. Coach Fred just said so on the radio show. He also said there are 12 players receive no a medical hardship waiver for next year.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Unfortunate, but not unexpected.  Wish him future success.

I can't fault the d too much they were put in horrendous position most of the day by our inability to a. Have time to throw and b. Find and connect to other open receivers plus the terrible series of special teams muffed punt gives ball inside five , fielding punt at five in a crowd resulted in pick six and then fielding punt AGAIN at two in a crowd with no chance of a return not to mention watching the kick return hit the ground and recovered by UMHB.  I would say wore out as in tired from being on the field all day but not necessarily wore out as inferior.  All that to say UMHB did what they needed to do to win and I wish them luck.

If I may put my two cents in here .....we will be fine at every position, our Devo squad did really well this season splitting with UMHB if I remember correctly.   My area of concern is the D line, it goes without saying those guys will be extremely difficult to replace.  As for Ramos, I hate to see him go but I am thinking or hoping it makes us better in the sense that I think we relied or game planned an awful lot to get him the ball (not saying that Is a bad thing) but as we saw Saturday when that is taken away we have to have a plan to spread it around.   We will not have any receiver that can just line up and run by folks like Ramos did.  Just my opinion but we need to get our QBs out of the pocket more, our passing game this year was drop back chunk it deep to Ramos or drop back scramble out and connect with someone while scrambling.  I would like to see more bootleg and sprint out, jmo.  With all that said I am very very confident in our coaches (I'm just a dad in the stands) and there is no other school I would want my kid playing for.

Sorry HSUDAD but your development squad lost both games to UMHB this year.

Also as a new member of the boards I would like to say Hi and that I am really surprised it took me this long to find this I love the banter and just fun back and forth.  As a student of UMHB I would like to say I will be joining in on some conversations and can't wait for saturday I know i will be at the cruthedral Saturday!!

Welcome newcru... it looks to me like many of us here on the board you are TrueCru!

newcru is correct, UMHB JV defeated HSU 46-21 on Sept. 28 in Belton and 17-14 on Oct. 12 in Abilene.

The weather forecast for the CRUthedral on Saturday, according to Weather Underground, has improved just a tad. Temperature for kickoff is predicted to be 45 degrees with a 55% chance of rain - which is down from 80% a couple of days ago.

Let's go CRU, leave no doubt!

Ya I checked the schedule I think I was thinking the second game was a win because you guys blew us out the first time and beat us like 17-14 the second time which felt kind of like a win haha.  I know our coaches were very high on this past years freshman class and felt like it was one of the best they had ever recruited.

Welcome newcru!

I know HSU is losing quite a few guys this year, but I still consider them to be our most competitive opponent in the ASC (not even taking into account what they accomplished this year).  No disrespect to ETBU - they had a great season as well, and I know they are flying high after splitting the league crown.  If TLU ends up coming back, it will be all the more interesting.  I have high hopes for the competition going forward.

With The SCAC pretty much going away next year with Austin College and Trinity going to a different conference does anyone have any incite on where TLU and Southwestern would be going?  Would they come to the ASC and make a 10 football team Conference? I wonder if Pat has heard of anything

We can probably assume that will be the case but nothing has been announced yet. SCAC is still around next year, though -- it's the year after when they stop sponsoring football.
