Game day is approaching, still very anxious to see this years Cowboys.   No scrimmage this year so still a lot of question marks for me, d-line, running back just to name a couple.
I hear good things from the players. One of the guys i work with was hoping to take a starting position but tore a meniscus and is currently #3 on the depth chart. hopefully i get to catch the game 9/24 to see for myself.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

For anyone interested Coach Pete will have his first radio show of the year tonight at 6:30 on KTEM 1400 AM. You can listen easily online but it has to be live as it isn't archived anywhere to be knowledge.

It was good, not a lot of new information for those of you that follow the program closely. One thing I have been continued to be excited about though was the repetition that this is Blake Jackson team, he has become a great leader and it sounds like he is the QB. His back up is no longer Zane Boles who has been moved to A-Back (you can teach 6'5) so hopefully Blake can use all the dynamic receivers and running backs we have and really put some points on the board.

Defense sounds like it has a lot of moving pieces to figure out with some guys changing positions, but Coach did sound confident that our defensive backs will be very solid this year. To me though, give me a mixture of Teidrick, Baylor, and Matt Cody and I am confident that the rest will figure it out.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Looking forward to this weekend.

He'll know soon enough when they get to go against a straight shooting and running Qb.

in case you haven't noticed, there are scores on the scoreboard. IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!!!!!

Yep!  :)  I'm pumped for tomorrow.  Football all day.  My alma mater plays at 6:30 AM (they're in Ireland) and afterwards I'll probably stream a few D3 games with FBS stuff on the big TV.  Cru plays at 6, so we'll probably get there around 5.

Football is back.

BELHAVEN WINS!

Belhaven got the ASC off to a 1-0 start with an exciting 28-25 win over Millsaps (rivals that are a block away from campus) last night. Millsaps won by 30 last year, so this was a huge step in the right direction.

The Good:

A solid offensive performance. 420 yards of total offense. McEachern (UTEP transfer was 30-for-55, 334 yards and 3 TD. No INT.

Lamiq Roberts set a school record for receptions in a game with 14. He had 220 yards receiving and one TD.

Blazers were  9-for-18 on 3rd down and 3-for-5 on 4th down. And they played the field position game. They punted the ball one time and it was downed inside the one. There was a sarcastic cheer from the crowd (Normally this is a "go for it" situation, which leads to giving the opponent great field position)

3,987 in attendance for a Division III game in the middle of SEC Country. It was awesome.

The uniforms were slick. Belhaven has an Oregon thing going on with a different uniform combo every week. Sometimes they miss badly. Last night looked good. All white uniforms with white helmets and a chrome logo. Looked sharp.

Young offensive line only gave up 2 sacks against a strong defensive front and they were both late in the game. . I think MHB had 30 on us last year.

The Bad

Belhaven looked flat in the first half. It was 10-0 Millsaps before most people found their seat.

We only had one turnover - but it was a stupid one. Roberts fumbled it going into the end zone.

11 penalties for 87 yards. Mostly stupid penalties.

The Ugly

Tackling. Millsaps sustained drives and turned short gains into long ones because of poor tackling. Going to have to fix that in a hurry.

Next up: Just a small trip to Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Thanks for the write-up, Blaze.  Good start to the season for the Blazers.  Next week miiiiiiiiiiiiight be a little tougher, though.  Best of luck!

My honest assessment of Belhaven this year, prior to last night:

Should Win:
Millsaps
Sul Ross
McMurry

Home Toss Ups
Hardin Simmons

Road Toss Up
Louisiana College (lost by 10 but really looked like the better team)

Road Upset Potential
Huntington (gave them fits last year, and should have won)

Not Going to Happen
East Texas Baptist (lost by 33 last year)
Whitewater (lost by 56 last year)
MHB (lost by 46 last year)
Hardin Simmons (did not play)

Belhaven has potential to be the 4th team in the ASC, and separate from McMurry, LC, Sul Ross, and Howard Payne. Of course all four of those teams have the potential to do the same.
