By all accounts - media and otherwise, ETBU Head Coach Scotty Walden is a great guy with tremendous energy and contagious enthusiasm. He may be an incredible coach and, according to recent reports, even an offensive genius. There is no doubt ETBU has put up some gaudy offensive numbers this season en route to a 5-1 record. With that said, I offer the following stats, FWIW, with regard to the Walden era (Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach) vs UMHB.

2013 (Walden, OC): UMHB 65 ETBU 10 -- ETBU total offense = 290 (237passing; 53 rushing)
2014 (Walden, OC): UMHB 83 ETBU 19 -- ETBU total offense = 440 (308 passing; 132 rushing)
2015 (Walden, OC): UMHB 67 ETBU 20 -- ETBU total offense = 307 (258 psssing; 49 rushing)
2016 (Walden, HC): UMHB 59 ETBU 22 -- ETBU total offense = 338 (238 passing; 120 rushing)

Again, I toss out the aforementioned just FYI and FWIW.

DFWCru,

Unfortunately, Jack has a prior commitment and will not be able to make the HSU vs UMHB game.

We were in no-cell-service-land for most of the weekend, so I had to rely on occasional twitter updates of the game whenever we hit good reception pockets.  There's nothing I can really add that hasn't been said.  Here's to hoping they come out on fire and stay that way the entire time this Saturday.  Looking forward to a packed house.

Go Cru.

All CRU fans should be relieved that the curse of "Jack" has finally been lifted.  In the previous three games I watched, the CRU lost...but they finally won with me in attendance so I will be making a trip down to Belton in the playoffs to take in some more action.  Looking forward to getting back down there and am always up for a pre-game meeting for some grub.

One more thing to add from Saturday's game - why did Coach Walden kill his team with all of the attempts on 4th down? 3/9 and giving a great team amazing field position. As good as Coach has been in preparing this team, I think he did them a disservice by giving UMHB such great field position.

i would have to agree with 2001 on this, a gamble from time to time can have a payoff, (4th conversion 3-9) But a constant becomes just that a constant. At least punt has a possibility to be fumbled, bobbled, and recovered for decent position, and if not, if the drive is topped, your still in a decent cushion to play, I was kind of surprised by that also. After awhile though, well just became a given.

There is really no reason UMHB shouldn't win by at least 21.

For a quick second Saturday I thought UMHB was human after all, it appears all ETBU did was tick the machine off and the second half was more of what I expected.

As for HSU they finally were in control of a game from beginning to end with no hiccups along the way.  Yes I know it was against a winless team but up to this point we had not been in total control of any game until the second half.   They did what you should do against a winless team.

This Saturday hopefully will be a lot of fun.   I'm hoping that HSU can keep it close for more than a half, and down the stretch anything can happen.    It is going to take a flawless game as well as a few bounces in the cowboy direction to beat the Cru anytime, but especially this year and at their place.   I have nothing but respect for the Cru and look forward to a great game.    Looking forward to seeing the Cruthredral again, got the tour when my kid went on his visit, goes without saying it is the class stadium of D3!!

Any recommendations on good eats while we are in town for the game?

The go-to response is usually Miller's Smokehouse.  I've had the pleasure of eating at A LOT of BBQ joints in this fine state, and I can say without a doubt it's up there with the best.  http://www.wildmillers.com/

What made your kid decide to go to HSU over UMHB?

I truly look forward to the UMHB v HSU ( As my daughter says Hardin sinners v. U of Money Hungry Baptists) and we'll be there for homecoming and such. I think the season drama has built up nicely for this matchup...should be a nice packed house being that HSU is in a abilene and many can make the trip. Let's pack this house! Get loud and see one great match up! We had a good travel cru last year at the loss....hope to see that rectified this game.
+1!  Money Hungry Baptist!  I love it.

Right up there with Horrid Pain and McMurphy!

Not sure I agree with "Money Hungry". When your goal is to be the University of choice of Christian higher education, and when you have a plan to make facilities great so that students receive the best possible education you do what has to be done. Many of the buildings that have gone up are straight out of money raised. The nursing department was completely paid for prior to it being finished.

Yes the cost has gone up since the late 90's when I attended, but so has everything, and upwards of 90% of students receive financial aid. The school does a great job of helping students, and not just loans. With all of the new facilities come opportunities for student work. It is always easy to make judgements when you see it from the outside and are frustrated with the football team's success, but that is not truly the case.

UMHB2001 I was not knocking the school. from what I learned from  kids at UMHB and at HSU, those are the things UMHB/HSU peeps call each other, not out of anger, it's just a good natured sort of taunt, in the 2014 season when HSU visited, two of my daughters friends from HSU window painted HSU on her rear window and a cowboy hat on her driverside window, which was hilarious. When I have gone to HSU for games and other events, I found nothing but good natured people and fans, even at our loss there, we were even invited to enjoy some mighty tasty BBQ there pregame, didn't know them but they were very gracious. So it's not a nasty slight, just one we found to be fun.

Congrats Haston Adams on the TOTW nod and the great pick on the front of d3football.com. Also, note the collision taking place in the background
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.
