Portland media take....

http://www.oregonlive.com/collegefootball/index.ssf/2016/11/linfield_becomes_road_warriors.html?ath=1158ab60dc0243edc9dbf8cf02c05041#cmpid=nsltr_strycardrightbn utton_single

What goes Coach mean when he said ran a deficit of 130,000, does he mean it cost the NCAA that much to send teams their?
And, had Linfield beaten UMHB, they might have hosted 3 or 4 games. I am not sure how the Linfield football team ran a $130,000 deficit. This is not the NAIA.

My question to the posters on this board was how could it cost Linfield $130,000. Doesn't the NCAA get the gate proceeds?

Thanks.
My only thought on this was perhaps Coach was thinking of 2014 when the CATS went to MHB, to Widener, and to UW-W---I don't know if that could result in that kind of cost (I'm assuming it costs them x ammount for everybody above the alloted number of players, coaches, etc. that they send on a trip).
Go Cats!

Talk about a big ole boo-hoo in that article. Someone get the Coach some tissue and a therapy puppy. Poor guys...they have to play some road games in the playoffs.  :'( :'(

At least today was fun...

If you are going to have the stones to put photos of your college rings on your website, they should be National Championship rings.  But then you would just have a photo of a Tire, and a wall.  Your the one that needs a tissue dude !!

I haven't seen much from the HSU supporters on this board today but wanted to say congratulations on a great season. I expect them to continue to compete year after year for the top spot in the ASC.

I'm sorry that The Cru isn't going to play HSU next Saturday. I know that we can always expect the Cowboys to bring their A game and to play hard till the final whistle. It will be nice to square up against Linfield again. There isn't a doubt that they will be ready for a rematch. We still owe them losses, so what better time than next Saturday to give the Wildcats another loss.

On another note, it would be nice to see more fans standing and cheering even if it's only on third downs. The players down on the field play a bit harder when they hear the fans cheering and clapping! So, lets get a bit more vocal and let The Cry know that the fans aren't there watching a polo match.

Then just give away free tickets to everyone in town like you did in the first game.

That might be the strangest bitter post I've seen all season on any of these boards.

FYI and FWIW: UMHB offered General Admission seats for free for both the Linfield and HSU games. GA seating comprises about 15% of the seating capacity of the stadium - most of it on the Bawcom Student Union side (east side). Anything beyond that would be standing room only and/or the grass berms in the end zones. The other 85% is reserved seating, of which I guesstimate is 90% season tickets.

The capacity of Crusader Stadium is 8766. The attendance reported for the Linfield game was 6990. I don't know if that was tickets that were scanned or tickets that were sold. In either case, the crowd was not "standing room only" as one report stated. It was not even at full capacity. It was a very good crowd, but my guess is the free GA tickets had only a slight impact on the game. It was also a night game, which, historically speaking, enjoy a better attendance than day games.

The attendance for the HSU game was reported as 5665. Again, the impact of the free GA tickets was likely very slight.

I hope I am wrong, but since the round two game between UMHB and Linfield will take place on the weekend of Thanksgiving, and is a day game, I expect the crowd to be rather light.

I have long maintained it is very difficult to beat a good team twice in the same season. I stand by that belief going into Saturday's game. UMHB has done it several times through the years because the NCAA has matched The CRU up agains the #2 in the ASC multiple times. I hope UMHB finds a way to win, but I will not be surprised at all if Linfield prevails - and I won't regard it as an upset.

I suspect it's a Blake Jackson / Sam Riddle pick 'em.

A big congrats to Redlands.  They brought it to the Cru and it made for one heckuva game.  Very impressed with their level of play.  I was obviously frustrated at what went on in the first half, but as usual the coaches made the necessary adjustments (both in play and, I suspect, attitude) and came out pretty strong in the 3rd quarter.  The bobbled snap on the punt in the end zone (which resulted in a safety) kinda jump started the turn around for the Cru.  Still, it was clear that UR kept fighting.  Those 2 kick returns were evidence enough.  Good luck next season, Bulldogs.  As DFWCrufan said, you represented your conference well.

On to the rematch against the 'Cats.  Looking forward to another exciting game.

I paid my Linfield/UMHB Tics...And yeah they comped in the student Gen seating section, it was family day afterall.  And free admission for any visiting parents and Linfield supporters, that is a bad thing?

Hats off to Redlands. The boys from California came ready play and left in all on the field.

Congratulations to Linfield on the successful trip to HSU. The Wildcats will be motivated and focused to settle the score for the September loss to The CRU. I always give the edge in these same season match-ups to the team that lost the first game. I just tend to believe they have bit more motivation. UMHB will have to play better than it did against the Redlands in order to have an opportunity to get past Linfield. UMHB can do it. On Saturday we will see if they will be able pull off the difficult taks of beating a really good team twice in the same season. Go CRU!
