Congrats Cru on a great win in an excellent game by both teams.

The UMHB Stadium would work just fine.
If they're in it, one of those 10,000 seat high school stadiums would work.

I was told there was a contingent from Texas in Salem this weekend as they consider, or already have, bidding. I thought someone said it might have been a group tied to UMHB, but that their stadium is absolutely not in consideration. I asked why considering how nice it is... and the comment back was the fact you can't get to Belton all that easily. Seems the bidders understand that about the only thing that will get a bid out of Salem may very well be making sure you don't make it hard to get to - since that is about the only thing challenging about Salem (for most people).

Considering it was 75 degrees in Belton today.. at least by my weather app...Might be a good idea... Ford center, the smaller indoor training facility for the Cowboys in Frisco, about the same size as Salem, of course far better media capabilities, Two airports 30 minutes away, full on lodging and great eateries. The HS games not scheduled for AT&T Stadium are playing their playoffs there, texas Youth Football Association is holding their championships there, they have track meets and such scheduled there too.   Fully enclosed. But I would imagine there are other locations just as capable, but in the middle the nation to me would make the most sense. Since we are now on wind down for the year, people comment what locations would you think might be a great fit?

I don't know who to talk to but this one would sound like a winner if the right pieces can be put together. http://thestarinfrisco.com/ford-center

Cities negotiate with the NCAA for the right to host the game for a number of years.  Not many are interested.

I don't know all the criteria, but I do know that Salem has been very aggressive in keeping the game in their hometown since they wrested it from Bradenton, FL.  [Before that Cincinnati, OH and Phenix City, AL]

The 3K-7K fans mean much more to Salem than they would to other cities.  Fewer teams would need to fly than if it were in Texas and that is a major concern in D3.

But they can always try.  Personally, I'd enjoy a warmer clime when I watch my boys!

it was in the 70's friday. today it's in the 20s. rule 1 about texas winter... there are no guarantees.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

It was 75 in Belton Friday; what was it last night?    ;)

Here's the thing:   a Stagg Bowl in Salem is reachable for a whole lot more of Division III than one in Texas (or Florida).    You go from it being a day's drive for 50+% of Div III to 10%.

The "middle of the country" buys you little; the WIAC, ASC, SAA, IIAC, MWC, MIAC might like it but it's way out of the way for everyone else.

When you compare this bowl game site to other ones, there's a big difference. Other bowl games have multiple weeks beforehand where travel can be planned. Even the FCS title game has a gap beforehand. Not the Stagg Bowl or the D-II title game.

Ron.... Here's OUR problem:

getting left out

Sincerely,

NWC / SCIAC

Dude, I've seen Trinity shipped all over the country despite being a higher seed in many sports, as have other "island" conference winners.   You don't need to tell me about being left out; it's a fact of NCAA D3 life.

I meant we were left out of that.

Now that I'm back home (no, I wasn't in Salem, sadly) ...that was one heckuva game!  Our D stepped just like they have time and time again to see us to victory.  I can't say enough good things about them.  I wish our entire defensive line could have been the collective MVP.  Very proud to be an alumnus right now.  I'm probably just as happy for Coach Pete as I am for the players.  He has been a great leader for our boys for a long time now.  I don't know how much longer he'll coach (especially now that he's won that elusive natty), but we're all so grateful for the work he's done.

What a season.  Way to go National Champion Cru!

It was a list of conferences in the middle of the country. Must Linfield and the NWC be included in every list?

Pretty sure you know the answer to that Pat!
