Hmmm.  My browser crashed and didn't save what I had typed.  Oh well.  Nice road win, Cru.  It appears the defense was stout, as usual.  Those first half penalties though... ugh.

Also, that was a crazy FG by the TLU kicker.  It popped up several times on my Twitter feed over the weekend.  I saw people talking about it who NEVER pay attention to D-III athletics, so that was fun.  There were several big-time plays in other games, too.  It was a good week for Play of the Week contenders.

My wife and I had a great trip to Oregon. It was great connecting will alumni and a former UMHB professor. Equally satisfying was time spent with dear friends in McMinnville. The UMHB win over of Linfield was icing on the proverbial cake.

My two-cents worth on UMHB. Stating the obvious, the defense is playing well right now. I do believe the Purple CRUsh D, or if you prefer the Wrecking CRU, will only improve as the linebackers gain experience with each game. The offense is a work in progress and and started getting into sync in the fourth quarter. The 89-yard drive resulting in a touchdown in the fourth quarter looked really good.

Freshman running back Demarcus Bryant (6'2", 225 lbs) is going to develop into a beast. Also, I believe freshman wideout Isaiah Townes (6'1", 185) has the potential of becoming the second coming of T.J. Josey at receiver. He is already a handful, but as he gains strength/weight and gets more experienced, he is going to be really good. As for Josey, he is making progress. He looked more comfortable throwing the ball and is starting to read the defense better.

UMHB needs to improve each week and take it one game at a time. While The CRU cannot afford to look ahead, we fans can. The game in Abilene on October 7 is shaping up to be huge. The offense must be hitting on all cylinders to beat a Hardin-Simmons team that, from what I hear, is thoroughly convinced it should have beaten UMHB last year. I am quite certain the Cowboys have had October 7 circled on their calendar since the schedule came out.

Next up for UMHB is TLU. Go CRU!

Good take KB as usual, I am not too concerned with HSU as long as we have refs calling the serious holds from our last visit. Might as well have put a saddle on Tedrick they were climbing on his back so much.  I believe SRSU will defeat HSU this season, and if my thoughts play out we could see SRSU make it to the 2nd spot in ASC. I also see ETBU and SWestern being trouble for them so personally I am not worried. I respect the program, but I have not seen them pass a serious test as of yet.
I think so many are down on the Cru's offense. Lets consider this, Linfield is a ranked program, and a top 10 ranked program at that with a comparable D line as ours, and the Cru still found a way to score. Yeah it's not as smooth as Blake had them, but I believe the Cru will get there. In the podcast it was speculated and it might well be so, UMHB will bank of the D and score enough to win.. that works for me as long as it's a W. And I also believe the D line will continue to get stronger as they perform all the while gaining trust and experience.

So put those factors together and I see a run into the playoffs and if the smooth gelling process continues we could have a very strong program come bracket time.

I get they haven't faced big-time competition yet, but I always consider HSU a threat in the ASC.  SRSU is undoubtedly a better team than they have been in the recent past, so I do see them giving the Cowboys a challenge.  Whether they beat them or not.... well, that's why they play the game.  It's easily my favorite conference match-up this season after UMHB vs HSU.

I'll be in Abilene for the first time to take in a Cru game. Can't wait!

Not worried about HSU. Really? Ok jokes aside UTMB/HSU game will determine the conference champs as always. With what I've seen on both teams so far this year it's a toss up. UMHB defense is legit, but the only legit offense it will face in the regular season is HSU. I see them scoring at least 24 against UMHB. UMHB offense is a question mark. The talent is there but hasn't click yet. OL is shaky. HSU defense looks strong except for a running QB which Josey is. I think UMHB will have to score 30+ to win and they haven't shown that yet this year against the teams they played. I see a 28-24 HSU win right now. Alot depends on Josey/Turner development. Regardless, UMHB is not playing as a #1team right now. Mt. Union would be mine right now.

Hometown Heroes is this week, too!  It's probably my son's favorite (only?) game each year because of all the First Responders on campus.  :)

Also, it is easy to pick Mount when they haven't played a tough team. UMHB has played an senior laden SRS and top ten, strong defense Linfield. UMHB has weapons that haven't even touched the ball yet, and they have improved each week. HSU hasn't faced any stiff competition yet as well. Things are lining up nicely for that game in a couple of weeks.

This week, UMHB gets their first INT of the season, maybe two, and may post a shutout. We'll see. TJ will post good numbers this week as well. 3rd game is the charm.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!
