Please permit me to correct the schools names:

HSU  =  Hardened Sinners
UMHB  =  University of Money Hungry Baptists
McM  =  McMurphy
HPU  = Horrid Pain
TLU  =  Texas Losers

HSU's, McM's and HPU's appellations go back to the 1930's (as well as Abilene Campbellite College for what is now ACU.)  ;)

I am open to other nicknames which I have not heard.  :)

SRSU = Significantly Remote State University  :P

ETBU = Easy To Be Underwhelming
TLU = To Loathe Ubiquitously
TU (Trinity) = Try Unitarianism

;)

Well according to the 2-deep, HSU will be sticking with Hooper as Landry Turner still isn't back from suspension. Hooper has looked decent in the last 2 starts but seems to lack the strong arm and play-making ability that Turner showed early and often.

On the MHB side, it looks like yall are sticking with Kyle Jones at QB which is what I expected due to our slight struggles with etbu's air raid last week.

I'm a little worried about our QB and secondary situation but overall, I expect the close, low scoring game that we've become accustomed to over the last 3 or so years.
My bias opinion obviously has the Cowboys winning a one possession game due mostly to our offensive fire power and dominant offensive line that seems to be the only one that can handle MHB's front four year after year. Whichever team wins the battle upfront will likely come out ahead on Saturday.

I'm excited to be in Shelton Stadium this weekend to watch a match up of, in my opinion, the 2 best teams in division 3 this year. Yall travel safe and enjoy the great city of Abilene!

Hooyah,

Any recommendations of things to do in the city of Abilene (Food, sights, other things). I want to try to arrive early and may end up with some extra time to spare.

Kelly and others that are going to the game,

What time are y'all getting to the game to get seats?

We're leaving at 8 am. I would like to get there when the ticket window/gates open at 11:30, but I am shooting to be there, hopefully, around noon.

This year is very interesting to me because I honestly feel that HSU is the more talented team for the first time in a long time.

In '14, MHB was more talented and it showed in their 13 point win. In '15 & '16, I believe the talent levels were pretty equal and the results simply came down to who played better on that particular day with HSU taking a 3 point win in '15 and losing by 5 points last year.

I really believe we have a talent advantage this year and am hopeful that it shows on Saturday afternoon. I'll be cautiously optimistic and predict a 31-21 win for the Cowboys.

I'll bite, The Cru by 7 - A close knock out drag out grind to the finish game.
While the Cowboys have talent we have to be honest they have not yet been hit and hit hard by a stiff defense. Now I am not saying HSU is not a talented side, they are, they earn their spot in the top 10 and might I say I think  they deserve higher in the beauty contest but a #5 ranking is very well deserved. I just wonder about the number of go to choices in the offense, but I would imagine any true HSU fan could correct me there, I just don't know enough. I've been to 5 HSU/UMHB games and every one has been awesome! The heartbreaker in 15 only to come back in the 1st round of playoffs could conceivably happen, but I hope it does not. (sorry cowboy fans)

The Cru have faced stiffer defenses and play schemes and always found a way to put numbers on the board. I think one of the problems we face is not the players, it's the fans.. We expect to win, and if the score is not 80-0 in the first half then the Cru are messing up, not serious or under skilled. I will be very happy with a big fat W even if it means a 10-11 game. We have a ton of talent to utilize, but we are in Shelton Stadium, home turf and might I add sight of the last bloodletting.

So I'll give it a 7 point win for UMHB, HSU should be respected and a total game must be played to end with a W.

Good analysis. I agree we haven't played the same level of competition as mhb has, so the video game offensive numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. As much as I'd enjoy it, I don't think anyone expects HSU to put up anything close to the 68 points per game that they're averaging so far.
As far of the number of go to choices on offense, I think that is our number one strength. We have 2 all-americans at receiver in Alex Bell & Reese Childress and Devonte Walker is our number 3 receiver that would almost definitely be the number 1 option at 95% of D3 schools. Not to mention Jaquan Hemphill at running back who just put up 350+ total yards and EIGHT touchdowns last week against etbu. I would hate to be the DC preparing against this type of talent but I'm sure mhb will have a good plan together as usual.
I agree that the winning team will have to play a complete game, which I think is sometimes a difficult thing for both of us due to the fact that our starters generally don't play more than 2 quarters in a normal game.

This is the one game i refuse to pick year in and year out, and not just because  I have degrees from both. The key to this game as far as i'm concerned is respect of the other team. lack of respect always seems to end poorly. As for food, my wife and i are shooting to be there in time for Dixie Pig. I need their biscuits and gravy.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

This may be one of the most complete games matching an HSU offense and a UMHB defense. Position for position, each side seems to be plugged in and ready to lock horns.

On the other side, UMHB's offense has been shaky, and HSU gave up 40 to ETBU. Now I realize some of that is against 2's and 3's, but then that brings up depth.

I believe this game will be extremely competitive with UMHB coming out on top. HSU will put up some points, but in the end, I have to believe that UMHB has the edge.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

merlecanlas

31-28 UMHB, late FG to win it.

Isn't D3FB fun?
