After going way to deep into SOS and in game stats for UMHB and hsu, I don't buy the hype hsu is receiving. Maybe they prove me wrong, maybe they prove me right. I guess that's why the game is played! LOL

D carries the day, need a heart to heart with the O Coords and figure this out.  Prediction was not too far off, I said 7, it was 10...HSU is a serious side.

Much respect for UMHB (except #41 who shot double bird to HSU sideline in 1 qtr). They played like 1 ranked defending national champions should. HSU hurt themselves with penalties  and couldn't ever put anything together.  It was low scoring as I thought it would be
Safe travels home cru fans and hope to see you guys again soon

My crack was very early in the game when it looked like UMHB would run away with it but I think both teams have really good D's.  There is a ton of speed on the field for both squads.  Should be interesting to see what happens  playoffs-wise if HSU wins out and Whitworth does as well.

Whitworth?  They are probably not even going to beat GF today.  I think the playoffs are shaping up as a redo of last year....

Yep, I checked the score right after typing that and I think it's fair to say the Pirates will be staying home.

The Irresistible Force succumbs to the Immovable Object!

Just got back from Abilene. All I have to say is the UMHB Purple CRUsh/Wrecking CRU defense is stellar - and getting better each week! The offense gave a few glimpses of what it can possibly become. The next five weeks are critical to getting the offense in gear.

Hats off to the HSU defense for playing very tough and #5, Devonte' Walker, is legit. If the Cowboys take care of business, it is very likely we will see HSU early in the playoffs, only this time in the comfy confines of Crusader Stadium. Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz said, "There's no place like home!"  8-)

Anybody from HSU,

How is Alex Bell? It looked like his knee when he was helped off the field. I hope it is not too bad, especially since he is a senior.

FWIW, the announcers said he'd been out with a knee injury previously and the coaches were hoping to have him for about 20 snaps but when he went out they thought it was a reinjury to the same knee.  I'm sure an HSU supporters can provide more details....

First post but not new to ASC football, happy to say Saturday was my 7th time to see the clash of the Texas titans!

From where I was sitting on Saturday it looks like this year's Cru defense is somehow even better than last year's group. As an HSU fan I think our offense is has greatly improved since last season, and we still were not able to make much happen. Right now it looks like both teams have some issues to settle at QB. Cowboys have got to hope that Turner is able to get back on the field and keep his head on straight soon. Not saying HSU wins the game if he is in, but it certainly would've changed the dynamic of the Cowboy offense! If not, don't be surprised if we see Marc Reed make an appearance next week. Hooper is a great character guy but he was in over his head against elite competition.

Bell is a huge loss, my feeling is that this injury is pretty serious. I imagine he will take a few weeks off, and we will hope he has another chance to play when we get to the postseason! Walker, #5, will need to keep up Saturday's level of play if HSU is going to win out. Next week against SRSU is no cakewalk...

I love making the trip out to Belton, hopefully we will have another chance to do so this season!

Caught the podcast, very good assessment I would say across the board, good job guys. This is where the season gets great, half way through and who is going to push and jell in the end. For the ASC, I'm sorry but I'm going to call a UMHB/ HSU push to the brackets. I don't see SW nor SRSU giving HSU any fits after seeing the SW/SRSU game, the only side I can see even offering a problem for the Cru is ETBU but I just don't see it happening. But hey, anything can happen on any Saturday.

CowboyAlum261,

I wouldn't be too hard on the QB. UMHB's defense - especially the line - was flat out dominating. Besides eight sacks, the HSU QB was hit quite a bit and running for his life most every passing play. I don't think any quarterback would have fared very well on Saturday. So far this season, no QB has had much success against UMHB.

Couldn't agree more. Hooper's got talent he's just got to learn to deal with elite defenses like the Cru if we are going to get where we want to go! Hooper's outstanding in the pocket, but you've gotta make plays outside the pocket and limit mistakes to have a chance against the nation's number 1 defense. Right now, Turner certainly seems to be more mobile and have more playmaking ability out of the pocket. But you can only play the cards your dealt I guess so we will see where we end up as the season goes on.

Very glad to see that D3 respected HSU for giving #1 a good fight through 4 quarters, if we both stay top 5 teams that would surely have to make the NCAA think twice before they put us against each other in the first round again...
