Friends, can Kyle scramble? I'm seeing a point we are missing without a QB who will drive for a TD on his feet?

IMO, of the three UMHB QBs who played against HPU the freshman, Robinson, looked the best.

he looked solid, especially that last td pass. kyle is a statue. i didn't say anything about the HSU game because momma said if you can't say something nice.... My hope was that he could use the next couple weeks to figure out how not to get sacked, but HPU got him twice. once for -10 as he ran away. Guess we'll see how this goes

in the second quarter there was a clear opening of the red sea as he rolled out left, and yet, instead of a drive I know Blake or TJ would have taken to probably get into the end zone he passed it away and high. So yeah, I'm wondering since the Cru usually have a nice triple threat offense are we missing a threat.
Muse stood his position and finished them out well, I've never seen Robinson and yeah, he did look solid. Kinda sad since in game one we saw KJ and he seemed to have it all together.

Robinson's throwing and running were solid for sure. However, for me, the most exciting play was when he was flushed out of the pocket and realized he had nothing and then threw the ball out of bounds to avoid a sack. He showed poise on that play. You should, however, take my thoughts with a grain of salt. A few weeks back I thought/hoped T.J. would be the second coming of Blake Jackson at QB.  ;D Josey was a beast at WR today against HPU.

Absolutely!  TLU has shown great improvement every week.  UMHB and HSU are in their own class right now, but TLU is performing above expectations.  They have a lot of young players that they are relying on and they are growing up.  The defense is a pleasant surprise.  They have installed a good scheme and they play better fundamental football, especially their defensive line and linebackers, than they have in the past.  It seemed like the defensive front was always a bit of a weakness in the past.  The secondary is very young but talented and still learning, but you can tell they are getting coached well and they are improving.  They give up big plays on occasion, but that happens with inexperience and will eventually be minimized, but I really like how aggressively they play.   Offensively, they just need to eliminate turnovers at crucial times because that puts a young defense in a real bind as it did in this game vs. ETBU.  But the running game is a real threat and opens up the passing game.  You can tell that this revamped coaching staff is having a good impact on these young players on both sides of the ball and that Coach Gustafson is building on what Coach Padron had done. It was obvious TLU was in much better shape than ETBU.  While ETBU was getting tired and wearing down in the second half, it looked like TLU was getting stronger.  Will certainly be a huge challenge next week vs. HSU, but it's about playing 4 full quarters and battling hard every play and growing and learning.  Good job, Bulldogs!

As the season moves forward, what I hope to see from UMHB is:
1. Get healthy
2. Stay healthy
3. Offensive improvement. IMO, the O-line and quarterback play must improve if UMHB is to have any hope of deep
    playoff run.
4. Find a QB who is consistently effective both running and throwing the ball. After the game with HPU, I hope the position
of starting QB can now be considered a three horse race and that Carl Robinson III will get some serious playing time.
I've heard he is a special talent and he showed it in his brief appearance Saturday. Keep in mind, Robinson made his
plays with third-team players against HPU's first-team - though admittedly the Yellowjackets were tired and a bit beat
down by then. Nothing against Jones or Muse, but Robinson, to me, just looked sharper Saturday. With that said, I trust
our coaches to make decisions that are in the best interest of the team and the program.

Just one man's opinion.

Robinson definitely deserves an opportunity especially against Belhaven next week who I believed lost to HPU. I don't think we attack the middle of the field enough. And that's short and deep down field. I think we have the receiving corps to march down field through the short passing game to open up the deep pass and run. Right now it looks like we run three plays. QB option run, deep sideline pass, and RB/WR screen.

Robinson came in and actually threw to  the middle a time or two. KJ forced a terrible interception there at the end of the first half when he had a WR in the middle of the field doing jumping jacks. But KJ's eyes were fixed on TJ on outside. Not knocking the kid just would like to see him go through his progressions. And that would be with all the QBs. Most of it is the coaches/play calling, and a few times when HPU called a obvious blitz there were no adjustments made. Thank goodnesss it was solid bodied Muse out there those times instead of KJ. Could be without him for awhile if it was. Anywho think that's something coaches need to address with the qbs and O line to ensure that blitz is picked up.

^ Welcome to the boards, CRH33!

Thanks, looking forward to the rest of the CRU season and reading some good analysis and opinions from you all. Rest of the ASC included.

You guys are KILLING me on this board.  UMHB might have one of the best all-time defenses at the division III level (5.7) PPG and all I read is the hand wringing about the offense.  As a fan, I get it but this defense is going to carry the program back to another Stagg Bowl title.

Kelly Boggs

I hear you, 11, but I want to see the offense improve. There are other good defenses out there and Linfield is one of them. The CRU will likely have to face HSU again, and we need to play better offense against the Cowboys the second time around. The UMHB folks I know aren't going to count any chickens before they hatch.
