It must blow for HSU that every year you guys make the playoffs you seem to have to play either UMHB or Linfield in the very first round. And now it seems, even if you win that game, you would have to play UMHB or Linfield in the 2nd round, too. I guess that's just the reality of of the TX and West Coast teams.

Still a very good season, HSU. When your only two losses are to UMHB and Linfield, that's nothing to shake your heads at.

Looking forward to playing the 'Cru again. As others have mentioned, Linfield is vastly inferior and very banged up right now. So, absolutely no worries needed on your part. You should get a strong challenge from St. Thomas, though!  :)
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Forget all of the bracket talk,  Our boys will play anyone anywhere.

Should be a dandy !!

GHC
However, GHC, if you make to the Stagg Bowl, your performance will be on a par with the 2004 UMHB team.

Here is the update on Top 10 South Region teams since the creation of the Pools system in 1999.

1) 2016 UMHB -- (15-0) Beat UW-Oshkosh 10-7 in the Stagg. Had a good run to Salem beating Redlands, Linfield, Wheaton IL, Mount Union in the CRUthedral.

1) 2)  2004 UMHB -- (13-2) Did it Ginger Rogers style.  (Refers to the old joke, who was the better dancer...Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers?  Rogers did everything that Astaire did, backwards and in high heels.)  Was a Pool C bid, back when there were only 3.  Beat #7 Trinity by 29, #3 HSU by 14, #5 W&J by 36 and #1 Mount Union by 3 on the road.  Lost to Elliott's #2 Linfield in the Stagg, 21-28.

Glad to give you your 1500th applaud for the many years of enjoyable posts that I have read of yours.

Thanks one and all for the input on the touchback info. It's appreciated.

UMHB has more than proven it will play anybody, anywhere and at any time - even when The CRU is without the luxury of the AQ.

Thanks for your input GLAD2BCOWBOY, it is appreciated. Keep the faith! We enjoy the rivalry with HSU and know every year it's going to be a dog fight.

Style points and stats don't mean squat anymore. It is find a away, any way, to score one more point than your opponent and advance to the next round.

Kelly - Regarding your note about the run game, IMO, they haven't committed to it.  It seems they fall in love with the pass and don't stick with the run.  They get 6 yards on 1st down then throw twice and punt. If I'm the running back that would drive me crazy.  Just my observation.

Wildcat'64

Since the Cats struggled and finally pulled out a win at Chapman....the CRU should have real confidence that they can walk all over the Cats by 40 points or so (based upon their performance against the Panthers).  Now that injuries have decimated the Cats offense and defense and half the team is now Freshman (moved up from the JV team) the CRU is in a far better position to walk away with the game versus the Cat performance  in Week 2.  The good news is it will be a great experience for the Freshman class to see the Cathedral and enjoy a field trip to the Lone Star State.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

I feel like we should all lobby the National Committee and demand that they don't Cheap Out and send all the good teams to play each other in the 1st and second round.... It's criminal!

You know, Wildcat'64, Texas Longhorn head coach Darrell Royal could not have "po-mouthed" his Longhorns any better than that.   ;)   ;D

Save it, Wildcat64. The first game of the season means nothing right now. Linfield is very, very good.

UMHB also has a freshman QB that started the season on the JV. CR3 is progressing nicely. We are excited about his future. Our second QB, not as mobile as CR3, has improved as well. With that said, the young Mr. Smith is playing very well right now and did not look like a freshman against HSU. The fact that he is a coach's son - in this case, The Coach's son - means he eats, sleeps and breathes Wildcat football. And we both know the defenses are stout.

These are not the same two teams that played a very close game in Oregon way back in week two. It will be another nail-biter on Saturday.

Wildcats need to pack the sunscreen. The current forecast for game time Saturday has temps around 80 degrees, lots of sun and a slight wind out of the south-southwest. Should be a great day for football!

You may be right, Cover2. I do believe we will have to have success on the ground in order to help CR3 or Kyle be able to be effective in the passing game. CR3 scrambling for some good yardage early on would also help put the defense back on its heals a bit. Saturday will be interesting to say the least. Looking for a good one in The CRUthedral!

Note to staff, in the off-season, work on in front of camera interviews, bring in a communications major to help the guys in post game interviews. Book of cliche's and sayings should be in spring/summer workout packages.

This weeks game is basically as if we had never played each other early in the year.

Two new QB's
Two stellar D's getting healthy
Both Coming off great wins

As was stated by a Cat poster earlier, the way in which Bryce is kicked to this game will make a huge difference. Should he get one opportunity, he may take it back.

Key stats of the game: the one sack and 5 tackles for loss against Linfield/ 1 sack and 7 TFL against UMHB. As cliche as it is, the trench war decides the game.

Two high powered D's vs 2 talented yet unproven QB's. Should be a barn burner.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Good one, 11.  ;D Actually, the forecast has the wind at under 10 mph. Let's hope it stays that way.

It was a gale all game long Saturday against Chapman. It hit around 11:30 a.m. with a vengeance and was steady at around 30 mph. The wind really contributed to CR3's INT. He got the ball up a bit and the wind just grabbed it and held it up. It also blew UMHB's first field goal off course. This Saturday "should" be much better, but you never know with Texas weather.
