Belhaven hired Blaine McCorkle - assistant at Delaware that played at LSU and has strong ties in Mississippi/Louisiana

He's an offensive line guy - I think the Blazers are about to switch to an offense that takes advantage of the talent in their part of the world.

What type of talent/offense isn't that?

One that is run by a coach who apparently knows too much about football to get too bogged down by establishing a running game, punting on 4th down, or valuing field position.

Can't take anything on Twitter as official but an Albright College coach tweeted last night that they would be hosting UMHB this upcoming season and going to Texas in 2019.

I like the game, Albright appears to be a solid program but I do believe it will mean only 4 home games next year for the Cru which obviously isn't great.

Offseason, so why not some offtopic news.  I know this was talked about at some point in the past, but UT Tyler has formally applied for D2 status.  If approved, it will have an interesting impact on the non-football sports of the ASC.  I wonder if UT Dallas is soon to follow?

If true, its just Coach Fred doing Coach Fred things in Belton. That is a great non-conference game, that is one of the better teams in a not so good conference. I think it's going to go a long way in helping them when it comes to RRO next season.

We are all trying to figure out who HSU is going to play this year, I personally want someone like Chapman or the Redlands, heck someone from D3 instead of bringing Texas College in for a shellacking.

From the article...
Quote
...Beverly Golden, university public relations officer at UT Tyler, said the university is not pursuing a football program at this time.

The subject came up during a scheduled presentation about the school's strategic plan for the future that highlighted enrollment growth, after Tidwell announced the application for Division II....
(I have provided the italics.)
...but it will handle one of the "mission/vision" disparities in the ASC.

Who benefits?  My first thoughts on the matter...

ETBU softball
Soccer  ... several teams
Cross country and T&F ... McMurry
Tennis ... several teams
Golf ... UMHB

To add to this, UT Tyler and UT Dallas have been dominant in women's volleyball lately.  If both were to leave, it would open for the door in the East division for teams like ETBU and Belhaven (though I imagine some reshuffling would be done to make up for the loss).

On a similar topic, UMHB has re-started its men and women's Cross Country programs (last seen in 2001).  They begin competing this fall.

If this comes to pass, there will be as many undergrad students at UT-D as the rest of the conference combined.   You wonder how much longer that will work.

Found the tweet and retweeted @ Coach Fred, Cru Football, and Cru Athletics. They rarely respond to my tweets or the questions I pose for the radio shows, so they may not respond to this, but we'll see. I've been asking for a couple weeks if they have nailed down a non conf opponent; they never responded, then I hear like this? Kinda irks me.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

We are down to a 12-team league.  From the McMurry experience, UT-Tyler should be out of here by Fall 2019.

I am sure UT-Dallas resumes full time travel partner status with Ozarks.

According to a local sports anchor, UMHB QB Kyle Jones is transferring to Texas Tech.  I'm not all that surprised to see him transfer (CR3 was probably the starter going into the offseason anyways), but I am shocked at the destination.  Not really sure why he chose that particular school.  Anyone have some insight?  I'm wondering if there was another reason for the transfer outside of football.

Interesting.   Justus Parker went from TLU to Tech and had to sit out a year.   This article says

QuoteHowever, if Texas Tech recruited Jones before he played for UMHB, then he will have to sit out a year. In addition, Jones would have to receive a transfer-release form from UMHB if he desires to be eligible for this season.

(emphasis mine) I can't imagine someone at UMHB being a dick like so many D1 programs are when it comes to a release, but I had no idea that if a D1 school recruited an athlete that a transfer would have to sit out a year even if they went to a D3 program first.

Makes me wonder what is the definition of recruiting is. I can't imagine there is a ton of overlap in the players most D1 programs like Texas Tech recruit and UMHB or TLU.

Could be academically motivated Engineering type emphasis perhaps, but with a new class coming in, the Cru still have Tevin Muse for a year as well as CR3 for 3 years, the competition could be tight if even more good hands players show up. UMHB has to develop their Offense and keep their defense bolstered as well. Special teams will be a new group with Bryce now gone so lets face it, 2018 is going to be new names, faces and abilities.
