The Midwest Conference has a playoff among the divisions each year.  They play games during the first 10 weeks with the division champs playing in week #11. I cannot imagine another conference wanting to cut its season short by one game so it could pit its best team against a team that is likely to go 3 rounds (at the least, e.g.,  HSU, TLU, ETBU or UMHB) in the post-season. You were fortunate to have SRSU move its game to the first weekend so Linfield could play you later in Sept. 2017.

The MWC doesn't cut its season short -- as a 12-team conference, they are permitted to play an 11th game as a conference championship.
Thanks for being more specific. What I thought that he was asking was for the ASC and another conference to finish the regular season in the 1st ten weeks of the season, and then have the respective champions play in the 11th week, or have another 10-team conference play a challenge week in Week #11, #1 play #1, #2 play #2, etc.

What I'm saying is that the ASC and another conference agree that their conferences' champions from the previous year play each other to start the year. That would help you fill your non conference game at the beginning of the season.

just saw this and thought I'd chime in without going back and reading everything... :)  Wouldn't the conferences have to agree to all their teams playing each other (1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, etc..)?  Otherwise, this creates a nightmare for scheduling as teams could only schedule their first game 1 year out (no home and home deals, etc.) as they wouldn't know if they'd be matching up vs. the other conference champ until the end of the previous season....There has been talk of the SCIAC and NWC doing this exact thing (matching up 1-8) but I don't know if it is actually still in the works.
Go Cats!

Thanks for the response.  +1!

Let's be realistic about this. As the commissioner of another conference, why do I want to hamstring my defending conference champion with an obligatory game against UMHB?

This is almost exclusively a problem for UMHB and maybe HSU.  Trinity is playing McMurry this year.  McMurry has no trouble scheduling games when they are the caliber of the Homecoming game opponent!

Got my email today about getting season tickets renewed. With only 4 home games this year, that makes it more expensive per game as the rates do not fluctuate.

Looking forward to getting back to my seats and seeing the team pour out of the tunnel. With the Stagg coming to Texas this year, it should be some great incentive for the boys.

It is becoming harder and harder for teams in the ASC to fill their non conference regular season game. Is there anything that keeps a division 3 team from playing a full conference schedule and then having a conference championship?

This seems like a much more viable option, in my limited knowledge of the situation, than trying to find that 1 game that may or may not be against a team that may or may not increase your SOS or your RRO.

Or, could two conferences agree to have their top teams play each other at the very end? Like a three year agreement? Or they could play at the beginning of the next season?

This would be interesting to see.

They should call Thomas More for scheduling purposes for 2019, provided they remain in D3.  The Saints are playing in Minnesota twice, New York, Vriginia, Alabama and North Carolina as part of 7 road games.

What does anyone care what UMHB - or any team for that matter - does with regard to its own program?

It's the off season. And, frankly, getting rings to commemorate a game you lost is a bit unusual. To each their own but I don't think this is an odd thing to have a discussion about.

All I will say is that any fans/former players of a program that has had "issues" in its recent past should probably not be critical of anyone's program and how it may or may not handle its own business. I will just leave it at that.

It's the internet. I think your odds of that happening rank right up there with anyone taking your thoughts on the matter to heart...  ;D

Depends on what program you are a part of...  8-)  In some programs, it wouldn't even be acknowledged. I'd probably vote for you, though. I appreciate and award clever banter. 8-)

Yeah. I found that silly too. If your players bust hump all season and work hard, an end of year banquet is a good way to say thanks and goodbye to those that aren't coming back and to build the team for the next year. Whether you are 0-10 or 15-0, an end of season banquet isn't so much to celebrate the season as to recognize the effort. But again, to each their own.
