Wow thanks for the McMurry catch, I didn't see that in my sweep.... trying to keep all of the ASC teams playing this week in the spotlight

I don't have a problem with playing on Thursday but it just seems a bit odd considering the distance that Platteville is coming from. I assume they are flying in on Wednesday and at earliest are flying out very late Thursday night which means most likely 3 days of class are being missed. I have no clue what types of flights they are taking so those days may be cheaper. Either way fine by me cause it means D3 football is here.

Classes begin 9/4 at UW-P, so they aren't missing any time for this trip.  Some advantages to playing Thursday instead of Saturday...the competition for eyeballs is a little less.  There are going to be people watching this game that wouldn't if it were being played on Saturday.  Also, playing on Thursday gets you into camp two days earlier.  If you don't mind the extra cost of housing and feeding your players for an extra couple of days, then why not?

Belhaven kicks off at home tonight against rival Millsaps.

No one is sure what to expect with Belhaven this year. Completely new coaching staff, completely new offensive philosophy. The joke is that they actually have a punter on the team this year.

Gone is the Air Raid, and the Power I is back. It suits local recruiting very well, but McEachern is back at QB so they will throw more than a typical run-first team would. The defense is much improved - due to the addition of a Melvin Smith at defensive coordinator. He has coached for 30 years at several SEC schools and has added a spark. The defense has looked well ahead of the offense in camp, but I guess that is to be expected.

Lots of departures with the old coaching staff leaving. So lots of freshmen going to be thrown to the fire. After four straight 2-8 seasons, it wouldn't take much to improve, but I don't expect anything dramatic. 5 wins is the ceiling being floated as a highly successful season. It starts tonight with Millsaps, beginning a three game season opening homestand that concludes with TLU and ETBU.

Completely new look for Belhaven this year as well. Gone are the wild and crazy uniform combinations and helmets that Hal Mumme brought. Uniform will be a classic look - reminds you of LSU or Ole Miss, with a white metallic helmet and the "B" logo.

I'll post it here because there's probably a larger audience:  per Adam Turer's initial Around the Nation column, Around the Region columns are a thing of the past.   There will be three weekly features, ATN continues, and there will be not one but two podcasts from Pat & Keith among other weekly features, some continuing, some new.  So have a look if you haven't already - there will continue to be plenty of D3 football content here you'll get nowhere else.

Greybeards (Ralph Turner, mostly) will remember that I was, once upon a time, your South Region columnist, so I'm a bit saddened by the news, but times change and I look forward to the new (and continuing) features.

Yeah -- in the end, things are not changing a whole lot. We had a few people retire/step down/move out of region this offseason and this seemed like a good time to evaluate.

We'd had Around the Region for something like 16 of the first 19 seasons, so it had a good run. We'll still have the same style of content.

Idk if y'all caught it but Blake Jackson had some pretty funny screen time on Hard Knocks this week. Got the whole Browns team busting out laughing, hopefully the comedy turns into a roster spot

I'll miss the Around the Region stuff but I am pumped about the 2 podcast a week.

The ETBU special teams has been great, kick return for a TD, and abismal, blocked punts, muffed snap by punter. They should be running away with this game.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Kelly Boggs

The UW-P defense kept the ETBU offense in check the second half holding the Tigers to 7 points.

ETBU looked just as a thought they would. Looked fantastic in the first half and then fell apart in the second. Lots of penalties and defense looked awful in the second half. I think with their offense they stay on the field too much, but that's just my opinion. Really wished they would have won to make the ASC better, but still a good showing I guess. Football season is finally here though!!
