Look pretty good, has the football team been Under Armor before or is that new as well?

They've been UA for a number of years now, I think that's going back to 2015 or so

Offense is still in a learning curve for Belhaven. It just wasn't there. 127 total yards.

But the defense looked much better than it has in a long time. So there's a bright spot. A couple of turnovers in bad spots gave Millsaps a 15-0 lead, but the game ended up 18-3.

I did not know until last night that Belhaven lost 50 players with the departure of Hal Mumme.

Caught a bit of three games last night mostly the ETBU game.

McMurry is going to have a long season

Belhaven actually looks stronger than they have in the past seasons, pretty quick on Def. and a more diverse attack, although still  seem to need some time to settle in. I'll go out on a limb and say I would think they will be somewhere in the mid of the pack in ASC. I know it is really early, but I don't see them at this time, being able to deal well with HSU, UMHB and Southwestern and I'll also add Sul Ross to that. Belhaven seems to have moved on beyond where they were the last two seasons

ETBU... Seriously have to reign in their egos. 4th Quarter, you just lost a 30 to 10 lead and are now behind, and the D line is dancing??? Platteville is constantly breaking to your right and you don't adjust? Heads should be down, focus in check and get this undercontrol, Playing Michael Jackson and dancing on the line seems to be either egos running amok or lack of clarity.

Platteville comes out of a serious conference, this game should have been a very serious ramp up, I was impressed with the focus Platteville brought with them, first half was rough no doubt, but the second half, they were doing exactly what a serious program does, adjust, and coordinate to utilize their strengths, which they did very well. 2 blocked punts, constantly running a slot that on an average was a 6 yard gain per carry and receiver assignments that kept them in control.

Do you have a sense of the reasoning for leaving along with Hal? Did some go with him? Were they mainly offensive players that didn't want to make the transition to a less flashy high powered offense?

Yeah, I heard that too and was perplexed. It's not like Belhaven had *any* success while he was there (4 seasons, 8-33), though it admittedly was a difficult time with the transition from NAIA to D3 (which is complete next year, right?) .  And if you stuck through it during those lean times, why leave now?

OK, I just used my amazing Excel skills to fact-check that claim.

There were 86 players on the 2017 roster, of which 42 did not return.   13 of those 42 were listed as seniors, so in reality a not-insubstantial-but-not-50 29 players left.   3 juniors, 6 sophs, 20 freshmen.

There are 87 players on the 2018 roster:
- 44 returnees from last year (math works!)
- 36 freshmen
- 4 new sophomores, 1 a transfer (Iowa Wesleyan)
- 1 junior transfer from UMiss
- 2 senior transfers; one from UArk-Monticello and one from"Concordia University", the latter of which (Stephvon Flowers) played for Belhaven in 2016

Just saw that TLU's OC has resigned and taken a position outside of football.  Staff has always been pretty good, so I trust that the recent changes will keep the team moving forward after the great turnaround they had last year.

Wow I wonder what could have happened that would have a coach leave at this point in the year.

A D3 assistant coach? Finding pretty much any job that pays more than 50K a year...

Coolrey

Yes.  Pay in D3 is quite low, so if you are a coach with a family, it makes it very tough.  Changes late in the year in D3 are not all that uncommon.  Either landing at another school as a GA or assistant or getting out of the game altogether.  TLU has had a good staff for several years.  They did have several leave this year, but it appears reasons were more for advancement than anything else.  I think they will be fine.

Mad about D line dancing? For real? Its football man, personally I was happy to see some juice after about as flat a quarter as you could possibly play. But it wasn't enough. ETBU will be ok, and I still think they'll battle for conference title. 3(!) blocked punts in the 3rd qtr let UW-P back in; without those it undoubtedly would have been a W. You're right in that I do think they got to a point in the game where we thought it was locked up, as evidenced by inexplicably abandoning the passing game which had effectively scored 3 TDs in the first 9 plays. This was a great test though, identified some glaring defensive holes and ways to improve our offense. All in all, probably better to lose to this solid (they were good- not great) team than run over a terrible NAIA team again.

Good luck to everybody this week!
