I always look at UMHB/HSU as the test for the conference. So for that reason in my wanting to be totally entertained by the game I don't like to try to match up, I just wanna watch a fantastic game displaying disciplined athletics and both of these sides as far as I can see are going to bring it. So I have my shopping list prepared (I can't make the game live soooo) plenty of grill able tasty meats with great rubs and sauces are all lined up, adult beverages are lined up drawing in the requisite coldness to make it perfect at time of opening, and the big screen is warmed up and ready for Jon and coaches commentary.
This is the spectacle of ASC... I am going to imagine the Cruthedral will be packed, and with purple and gold to boot all around (With some white thrown in as well) and the last homegame for the Cru we faced HSU was such an outstanding day! Everyone have a good time! sit back and enjoy this game, it's gonna be a good one!

Wow! You make everything sound so exciting. I don't know if I'd rather be in the Cruthedral, watching the game live, or be with you, watching on the big screen. Your mention of food would probably lure me over to your place. Have room for me? If I don't make it, I'm sure you'll start without me.
Should be a great game. I'll be checking the score from time to time. I realize this is your version of Mount Union vs John Carrooll. Two top teams in the conference battling it out. Good luck to both teams. ☠🏈

attendance last week was 7k+ wont be surprised if its that or more this week.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

So Coach Fred had this to say about the QB situation in todays tlelegram article.

Quote"I think DeNerian needs to decide that he's a complete quarterback," Fredenburg said. "When he does, I'm not sure that he won't be the guy. I don't take anything from Jase or Luke, but I think DeNerian needs to embrace being the guy."

I'm super pumped about the HSU UMHB game this weekend. I have seen many of these games over the last 6years (my 2nd son playing for HSU) usually being on the wrong end of it.  They are always good games, electric atmosphere and expecting the same this year (not the outcome 😀) HSU needs to get to the next level and games like this will let everyone know if they are there or not

IMO. Hsu offense can be exciting and needs to play at their top level and must be able to run and throw the ball. The moment they become one dimensional it's could get ugly
Hsu defense must play disciplined   They can't give good teams additional plays or possessions

Tonight's UMHB Coaches Show followed the usual script. Not much was said, really, but the one thing that stood out to me was the fact that Coach Fred continues to waffle about the starting QB can't be good for the team, and now he's saying Denarian could be the guy if he only believes he can be. Look, I respect the two QB system, but as I recall, Blake was our lone QB . when we won it all in 2016. I think there is something to be said about that.

I did like to hear that a concerted effort is being given to getting the running game going. We have to be able to run Markeith and Marquis in games like this. Rushing like we did against Albright and SRSU is great, and I don't need 200+ yards in this game, but I do need to see 75+ from Markeith and 40+ from Marquis.

HSU will want to come in and prove a point. At some point, they will have to kick off to  "Doble Veneno", Double Poison, KJ and Aaron, and one of those guys are going to hurt the Cowboys.

I agree with Kelly Boggs. You will want to get your tickets early. The ticket booth on the SE side of the stadium was overmatched, and it took a long while for fans to get their tickets.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Agree on Coach Fred's radio show. I don't understand what he's wanting his starting QB to do? Hammack has started every game and has ran the offense the way he said in a previous show. (He wanted his QB to have the team behind him, move the chains and score points, don't turn the ball over, and be a leader on and off the field) from what I've seen and heard that's what Jase has done. And I get it we want to be able to run the ball but when the opposing team stacks the box why not throw it with the WRs we have. I've always been told the quick passes to the outside is like a running play anyways. Not trying to second guess anyone just confused. But enough about that I'm so ready for this matchup.

I've had the opportunity of watching every UMHB game this year and have watched a lot of college football in my lifetime and I can honestly say the starting WRs for UMHB are in the top 3 of all the teams I've ever watched. Both slot guys are legit 4.2 (Sims) and 4.3 (Miller) speeds, Jonell has good size and hands, and TJ is well TJ (there's a reason why he has the records).

RBs and O Line has been more than good. There ability to make a yard when needed and protection has been top notch.

Special teams gets A+ with the ability to score on any punt or kick return off sets the questionable PATs

Defense ok where do you begin. DBs and Safeties have been where they need to be. Picking passes and bringing some serious lumber, LBs have been quite but doing a job, D-Line grew up this last game. Played extremely well which allows you to do so much more on the back end.

Just my humble opinion but I don't think the game of the week has anything to do about a red River. If you want to come watch a true Texas football game, you need to be in Belton. hsu and UMHB is going to be one for the ages. Go CRU beat hsu.

I agree and can get behind your assessment of the team. I would like to see a bit better run offense. It sounds like Coach Fred is passionate about that as well. Sounds like the stadium will be packed, so that is good.

The one thing I will say about the multiple QB system is this, each guy has shown the ability to throw and run. This has not been the case in the past with the multiple QB system. That gives us a decided advantage when teams are planning and scheming. I like that side of it.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Quick question on this rivalry game between hsu and UMHB. What is the highest combined ranking during this matchup? This year UMHB 2 and hsu 7 for combined of 9.

Kelly Boggs

Last year UMHB was ranked #1 going into the game and HSU was ranked #5. In 2004, UMHB was ranked #3 and HSU was ranked #4. I think these two years represent the highest ranking each team had coming into the game.

One of my concerns has been that we have kicked the ball out of bounds too many times, but sounds like it may be a good plan this week to avoid the "doble veneno"...haha

There really is no safe place to kick or punt. Albright tried to on side kick and the up man took it to the house. on team tried to punt short and Denarian Thomas fielded the punt. He only got a few yards, but he has the ability to break it and go any time he touches the ball. Kicking it out of bounds might not be a bad idea

This is just how coach Fred has always managed this program. Even in 2016 there was lots of talk that Kyle Jones or maybe Zane Boles would finish the season as the quarterback. It wasn't until the Linfield game when Blake made a couple of electric plays early and then the defense and special teams really put the game out of reach, before he received full support as The Guy. There has only been one quarterback in the history of the program that received unwavering support from Pete, and they shared a last name.
