From the perspective of a fan of a team that's had to play UMHB in the playoffs, when I read Poorman transferred I thought- "UMHB has finally done it- their offense will now match the strength of their defense- and that spells trouble for D3."
Then I read of the revolving QB door and I thought "phew".

Is "phew" an expression of relief in Illinois-ese?

Man I wish we could always have this amount of conversation, seems like the ASC message board only lights up on the week of the UMHB-HSU game.

The thing about the QB conversation that I am failing to grasp is the total lack of real controversy until we see something different on the field. For every game of the season Jace Hammack has started and has essentially been "the guy" until the game was well in hand. Every now and then DeNerian will come in the game at times when clearly we want a mobile QB or at least the threat of one. No matter how you feel about Luke he has only come into games once they were not in doubt.

Coach Pete has made his comments about wanting a certain spark or swagger from the QB position which has everyone up in arms which may be the point. Prehaps he is using the limited media that cover to D3 to get a little something extra out of Jace, Luke or DeNerian. I have no idea but I do know that UMHB is leaps and bonds better than we were last year on offense so things seem to be working out so far.

I think there's an argument to be made that Hammack has also only played in games that were not in doubt.  UMHB has lapped the field, man.  Everything up until probably Week 13 or 14 is just babytown frolics.

So what is the controversy? If UMHB is truly only playing for weeks 13-15 then what is up the uproar over Coach asking for more out of his QB? UMHB knows all to well what it is like to not have the best QB on the field come playoff time so if Coach Pete think the current starter needs to play with a little something extra or a change is in order than we should probably start now rather than wait till midway through the 2nd quarter in the quarterfinals.

No, it means more than 2.
Like, how many QB's does Coach Fred think it takes to screw in a lightbulb?
A phew.

So... Poorman got the start yesterday.

Y'all are pretty quiet for a bit.

I was unable to watch the McMurry game as closely as I would have liked, but here are my 2-cents worth (if even worth that much): Poorman looked good. Of his two incompletions, one was a throwaway and the other was a perfect pass downfield (would have gone for about 40 yards) that was dropped. And it was perfect. He also ran the RPO well. Hammack played the 3rd quarter and looked good as well. He ran hard and made some good reads. Thomas played the 4th quarter and ran the ball very well.

I don't think there is a QB controversy, necessarily, but rather a QB conundrum. All three QBs are good at what they do and two of them have the skills to utilize the entire playbook. Thomas is clearly the wildcat (or should we say CRU-cat) guy. Poorman and Hammack have proven they can run the offense. I guess it now boils down to who the coaches (who not only watch the film but the practices and film of the practices) believe is providing the best leadership and is most efficient.

I have my preference, but it is irrelevant. I trust the coaches to do what they believe is in the best interest of the program.

It is my observation that the defense is at least as good as last year's and might overall be better. The offense is light years ahead of last year. The line play is much improved which helps every aspect of the O.

Great atmosphere Friday night led into an amazing Saturday at the Cruthedral. Homecoming is always a great time for family and friends. This weekend was no different.

So Luke got the start and I have to ask myself the question, "Was it different in any way?" The answer, for me, is not really. Which, how many programs can say they can put a second QB in and we can play the same way. Luke threw some nice balls and ran the system as if he'd been running it all season. Jase comes in, marches the offense, absolutely trucks a defender on a run play, and dominated the secondary. I agree with Kelly, those two set themselves apart from DT today and there is no question about who the top two, or tie for first, are in this system.

Lots of injuries yesterday, though. Hopefully, none are serious. LC is next.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

You know the status of your football team, when you are the opponent at Homecoming.

As you probably already know, last year Luke started against Frostburg State in the playoffs in place of the #1 QB in the nation. He threw for 6 TDs and ran for a TD. Yeah, not bad. Seems like you have 2 QBs that are pretty much interchangeable. And that's scary for the rest of us.
Oh, what the hell! Good luck in all your games - except the one!

Yes, Sir, I am aware. He looked sharp today and ran the offense with ease. He self admittedly wasn't happy with a few of his decisions as stated in the article from the Temple Daily Telegram, so I know he will work hard for his next opportunity.

As 2001 said, it was a great homecoming weekend. Saw friends from years past; watched the stunt night skit my daughter co-write and directed; pep rally; tailgate; the game and then dinner and ice cream with friends. Very busy and tiring but great. I'll echo Kelly and 01, Luke looked very solid and ran the offense efficiently. It looked like he had been at the helm all season, and when the 2nd half started Jase looked great going 4-4 and rushing for 2 tds. Clearly either can handle the task of starting and it'll be fun watching the coaches work that out.
In the paper today Luke and coach both mentioned a few things he didn't do well, but both thought he did well over all so i'm sure there will be some clear discussion and there are things to work on. Also, as Kelly said there were a  lot of injuries from both teams yesterday. let's hope that nothing is too serious
