I think the issue is money. HSU just cut a number of programs, is letting faculty go or buying them out, closed 4 off site campuses of the seminary, has put every dept on notice that your budget is X. Find a way to get to it. The money to fly the team to the NJAC might not be there

Wow, I'm sorry to hear this.  It's a tough time for small colleges right now and HSU can be a tough sell just because of its location.  I hope the leadership can turn things around for such a fine school.
Definitely a tough time at HSU right now, but I think we are positioned to get through it and end up even better. Cuts are part of the life cycle of any university, and its advantageous to continually evaluate academic programs and make changes where necessary. We've got good leadership, have made some good investments, and have seen consistent enrollment growth over the past few years, so there is a lot to be hopeful about as well.

The good news in my opinion for HSU is now all of the ASC schools only need to find 1 non conference game and there is nothing wrong in scheduling Trinity. They are a solid D3 program that is local enough to be cheap but also give them a way to recruit to an area that is not in their backyard. While it may be fun to schedule a big name it really isn't going to move the needle unless you go so big it all but guarantees a RRO.

And at the end of the day they most likely could have scheduled anybody and not escaped playing UMHB in the first or second round with the only question if it is in Abilene or Belton.

You're right, I was just really wanting us to expand out and see what we need to do as a program to get better. If you look at what UMHB did, they scheduled teams like Wesley, Whitewater, and Linfield. All three of those are the in the top tier of D3. That helped them see what needed to be done to get to that elite level. I wouldn't mind seeing HSU struggle a few years if it means growth in the long term. But for now I anxious to see if we get in the Playoffs and seeing how we get matched up with. I don't really want to go back to Belton, but I'm curious to see how we play with somewhat of a new offensive scheme and not having to deal with a 2 hour weather delay. Not an excuse, just wanting to see what happens on a normal schedule.

I thought the rule was that wasn't allowed if you played in 3 or 4 games? Obviously that would stink for him since I think we did play in 4 and he is a senior.

3 games or 30% of games which ever is greater. Interesting thing is if HSU plays one playoff game he qualifies because he only played in first qr of the 4th game. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

No, it's one-third, and it rounds up, and it only counts the regular season. But that means that someone who played in four games of a 10-game regular season qualifies for a medical hardship.

That is great news for him, I hate it when you say guys get injured during their senior year and will never get a chance for those final games. Of course he could show up next week and it won't matter haha

It makes no difference for us in the end, but it would be a silver lining in a pretty blah season for ETBU to pull out an upset over the CRU....

Won't happen. Our D is better than last year, and our O is light years ahead of last year. Sorry. It is what it is.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Are you recommending they don't show up?

umhb2001

Show up and try, sure, just stating facts.

I'll be honest, there were seasons where I worried about games like this. Heck, we lost to Howard Payne not too long ago. I don't worry about these games anymore.

It's totally understandable why you would be not be worried. UMHB has been impressive. I doubt anyone outside of the ETBU locker room thinks they have a chance. It sounded to me that TXTiger1 was just trying to grasp for some hope after a difficult year. I didn't read his comment as exactly beating his chest. But either way, hope it's a good game with no injuries.

trickytroy32

Hope no injuries either. Going to the stagg bowl this year since its 20 min away and want a ASC team to root for prefer HSU but settle for umhb.  Just like rooting for our Texas boys where football is just below god lol
