A little excerpt from the SJU game notes... theres a big difference in speed between these two teams.

40-YARD DASH TIMES
Sophomore wide receiver Blake Patrick (St. Stephen, Minn./Holdingford) recorded the team's fastest laser-timed, 40-yard dash time, 4.63 seconds, when the team conducted testing Aug. 11. He ran a time of 4.75 seconds, which was fourth-best on the team, as
a freshman last season. Patrick made his presence, and speed, known with a 48-yard reception Sept. 1. Senior defensive back Sam Marshall (Marshall, Minn.), a former run- ning back, followed in second at 4.7 seconds. Junior wide receiver Andrew VanErp was third at 4.74 seconds.

I think the D3 world has known, for a long time, UMHB has fast guys. I'd imagine UMHB would win the Stagg Bowl of team relay races.
There are less fast teams that figure out how to beat speed.

Good luck to both tomorrow.

Yeah plus football speed is different than 40 yard dash speed. I'm not quite sure why but it is.

Alright, Cru fans, game day approaches and it's time to be serious.  Good luck and I hope your boys play well.  Ours come with a heap of inspiration and Johnnie Magictm and I'm sure they'll give yours everything they've got.

Here's hoping for a fantastic contest worthy of these teams.

I really enjoyed the podcast today.

The QF games may give better insight into the strengths of the conferences in D3 this year.

How strong is HSU?

How strong is the ASC?  Southwestern beat NCAC tri-champ Denison. The other NCAC Tri-champs, Wabash and Wittenberg, were 18 and 19 in the Week 11 Top 25. But, ETBU blew a halftime lead against UW-Platteville which went on to a disappointing finish in the WIAC.

Can you make the case for St Thomas to be in the Top 15?  Well, depending on the quality of play that we may see with SJU and Bethel...

HIS KNEE WAS DOWN!

Sorry sorry that was an involuntary response. I should set up a bot to detect this gif and post that for all eternity.

Seriously though Defensive QB Jackson is very fast and impressive.

A note was left on students cars outside of mayborn today that had to deal with the UMHB football team. The note read "Pete Fredenburg and the UMHB football team are an embarrassment to central Texas,,, an embarrassment to the alumni and students of the university, and to the university itself, and should consider resigning.  At the very least he should google "sportsmanship" and memorize what it means.  I would suggest that he schedule a game with the Belton Jr. high team and see if he can score 300 points on them to set a record!!!!! THAT would make Pete proud."  The note also included a list of the score of every regular season game from this season.  The note was not signed. Personally I think that if teams didn't want that much scored on them, they need to prepare better, and it's not like UMHB leaves the starters in, but we aren't just gonna tell our 3rd string not to score. What are yalls thoughts?

We had the same issues at HSU when I played there 98-01. Most games we had first string play 1qr and few plays in second. Second string playing the rest of first half. Third team play 3rd and 4th - Down playing last qrt.  It got to the point the school newspaper was running it's mouth on a weekly basis, and even stated our facilities should be open to all students. ( Mad they couldn't use our weight room). It's hard not to run up the score when the other team completely quits or their players couldn't even play highschool ball. Non athletic college students run their mouths, but have little ideal or work ethic that it takes to play college ball. Getting up to work out at 5am, get done and you might be lucky to have a HR(if you took a 9 instead of 8 o'clock class) before class , get done around one and have to be dressed on the field at 3 practice till 630-7pm, get a bite to eat and watch film from 8- 9pm, stay up till 12am studying then do it all over again the next day.  We offered the newspaper sports writer to do what we do in a day including practice. Needless to say he apologized and didn't write that crap no more. Oh he refused our invitation to join the team for a day lol😂😂😂
I agree that you have no control over the quality of your conference opponents I also agree if you don't want 70 hung on you step up your program. As long as your playing your bench and not purposely trying to embarrass your opponent then it is what it is. If your offense is primarily a passing oriented attack you have to let your bench run your offense. I disagree with going for two with the game well in hand but outside of that all is fair. Now the thing I don't like is D3 Elite scheduling weak non conference opponents but as long as the playoffs are structured as they are this will be the norm, no one can afford a loss outside the conference if you play in a tough conference the risk is too great. UMHB has built a great program and it is disappointing given the ASC's geographical location that there aren't more high quality programs then just UMHB and HSU. Please don't talk about ETBU and Southwestern they are not strong D3 programs the ASC should consistently have 3-4 teams in the Top 25 given the talent in Texas and Louisiana
I'm not sure if you are suggesting that UMHB is guilty of scheduling weak non conference opponents. [/b] If so, I think you are wrong.  I think often we see some of the D3 elites playing ho-hum non conference schedules but over the years UMHB has seemed to take any and all comers to fill their non-conference schedules.  They had Linfield (my team) in 2016 and 2017, they've had UW-LaCrosse, Wesley, etc.....  I think 2 things need to be considered here:  1.  Scheduling often occurs years in advance so a "good team" on the schedule a few years down the road could end up being a "weak team" by the time you play them (maybe the case with Albright this year?).  2.  When you are looking at the truly elite D3 teams in a given year they are going to make nearly any opponent look like a weak team when they match up.  I'm curious to see how the Johnnies and the Cru play each other this week but I would not be surprised if UMHB rolls right through St. Johns like they have against everybody else....
Not suggesting that at all, but there are too many programs that are, just look at the teams with Open Dates listed on this Website each season there are some strong teams on this list and instead of scheduling each other they schedule NAIA programs or very weak D2 transitional programs. Isn't it better for your program your fans and (your gate receipts if home) to play another strong program to really see how you stack up for the current season. If there is a high level of concern you will lose than your probably not a serious contender anyway.

Best of luck to UMHB today from a Johnnie! Hoping both teams play to the best of their ability! Will be streaming the game from northwest Iowa while keeping an eye on the UWW/Bethel matchup, Morningside vs two-time defending national champion St Francis (IN) at the NAIA level, & the Division I conference championship games. It's been raining here since last night & is now turning to ice. Supposed to get 6-8" of snow so will definitely make for challenging conditions at the Morningside game being played just north of me in Sioux City, IA. Weather sounds great in Belton, though!
