We are considering coming down for the game and would love to hear some suggestions on travel plans.
Do most fly into Austin or DFW? Austin looks to be more expensive with fewer options from Chicago.
Do visitors typically stay in Belton or perhaps Temple or even Austin?
I've wanted to visit Austin (hoping for country music) for some time, maybe we could go after the game Saturday for the night. The problem is if we fly in/out of DFW, I imagine it's a 3 hour drive from Austin.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Austin is the easier drive. It's not bad it it isn't rush hour. Belton is about 1 hour from the airport. Maybe a tad more. If you want to experimence Austin (which you totally should!) then you need to fly into there. Dallas is more like a 5 hour drive from Austin. 35 is an awful highway.
We are SO good at this game!

Interstate 35 was created when the state of Texas only had 7 Million people in the entire state. We are now pushing 10 million in the greater "San Austin Dalworthington" metropolitan area alone.

DFW Airport is 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Belton. Austin airport is about an hour away if you take toll road road 130 (speed limit on toll road is 80 mph). Taking I35 through Austin is not recommended.

The toll road is just east of the airport. I35 is a crap shoot and can be a parking lot any time during the day.

I would agree with the flying into Austin would make a better choice, DFW and LOVE your going to face a 2.5 or more drive and in some places it gets testy. stay off the 35 - hit the toll and scream your way in.

I'm going to say this now, for me, this week is a game of faith. Facing the Warhawks is a test on steroids so I'm going to put my faith in the staff and players this week to rise up.

I agree with everyone else. Fly into Austin and take 130. Not sure how the rental company will handle the tolls. There are no booths its strictly toll tag or toll by mail which makes it even easier to drive. 130 comes out on I35 north of the austin area with about 25-30 minutes of driving to Belton. If you want to experience Austin, you'll have to take 35 all the way in to downtown

Thanks all for your suggestions, very nice of you. Not that I'd expect anything less from Texans. I'm as excited to see Austin, Belton and the Cruthtedral as I am the game.

And south of Austin is Gruene Hall in New Braunfels TX.  Todd Snider is playing on Friday night.
Gruene Hall is classic Texas Dance Hall.

This past Friday I flew into DFW and drove to Belton. If you don't mind driving it's not bad. From Minneapolis you can't fly direct to Austin so the travel time is not much different. From Chicago I am guessing you have direct flight options. know some flew into Killeen, which is very close to Belton.

Safe travels to all.

I've always done DFW to Belton.  Like ROR says, it's really not a bad drive.  I always play a game of how many Subaru Outbacks I can find on that drive and in my three trips I'm still stuck on zero.  (In Oregon every 5th car is an Outback).

Next time, bring a young child or young grandchild and teach them higher mathematics by counting the pickup trucks.

If you really want to have fun, drive around Killeen and play the license plate game. Bet you can come close tofing all 50 in an afternoon in a walmart parking lot.

And wildcat11, Killeen has its share of Outbacks on the road

One warning. Avoid rush hour in DFW. I landed at 1:30 and traffic was fairly heavy until I cleared Fort Worth. Not terrible but a bit slow. Still made it in 2.5 hours.

Don't think I saw a single Subaru. They are also very popular in Minnesota. I did see a lot of pickups and super sized SUVs.

Does UMHB archive game videos?  I'd like to rewatch the game and see the things I missed in person.
