And I will say again that I feel Hardin-Simmons had a team that could compete against any of these teams as they hung with UMHB as well as anyone.  The ASC had two excellent teams and I would even say that TLU, SW and ETBU add great credibility to the quality of the conference as all of those teams finished with winning records.  Incredible job by UMHB and impressive overall results by the ASC as the quality of the conference teams is continuing to improve!
I'm not as  willing to say TLU and definitely not ETBU could come to the table against even a injury ridden UMU. HSU does bring a very scrappy and disciplined game with solid gameplay with a ranking to boot. TLU 4 years ago, maybe but they have slipped a bit. ETBU... nahhhh not mature enough, I said it in their non conference game, they went from 20 above to 20 below and were kidding around and dancing etc etc... having a good time is one thing, but having 40+ scored on you with no answer and you want to be competitive, then its time to grow up, if anything but for the others on your team.

If you read my previous post, my point is that HSU, in my opinion, could be competitive against the teams UMHB faced in the playoffs considering they were able to battle UMHB as well as anyone.  The other teams in the conference that I mentioned I don't consider to be on the same level as those two or teams like UWW, UMU or SJ, but, in recent years, have elevated their game and have programs that make the conference more competitive and credible overall.  I feel the ASC should be considered as one of the top conferences in the country and that is good for Texas and for DIII football.

If you think scores of 26 - 0, and 27 - 6 are similar to 31 - 14 (UWW) maybe, 24 - 16 (UMU) or 21 - 18 (SJU, where the Johnnies scored more points than anyone else, and held UMHB to fewer points than anyone else) then you and I have a difference in the meaning of "...compete against.....as well..." than I do.

Agreed, and I also believe had SJU or UW-W been in Shenandoah Friday night I believe they could come out on top. Point being, there are other Mount type programs out there, but they knock each other off before ever meeting MU. I was very impressed with JHU and their run, and hope to see more of that in the coming years.

Yay!!!!  :D  A very warm congrads to the Crusaders on sticking it to the Raiders!  You guys never let MU gain the upper hand and your defense is staffed by beasts!  Wow..... That made my season!

I always wanted Wesley to beat UMU, too. Thanks for the sentiment.

Yeah MUC a healthy anyone would do well, but the thing is, it wouldn't be known because UMU will never face these guys (Unless they get to the Stagg) so I am willing to give more credit to UW-W, SJU and even HSU as being more than capable. (HSU healthy would bring a game)

I think for the longest time everybody wanted anybody to beat Mount.  Probably still the case to a degree.

To Be honest, I believe UW-W and SJU could give a game and probably defeat UMU in my estimation. There are other monsters out there, they just don't get to meet up all that often. JHU did a good job for their first go round....

Given all the injuries to Mount's skill players, UWW and SJU could give UMU a game and maybe even defeat them. I'll still take a healthy Mount Union over anybody - not so sure about UMHB.
The Cru certainly deserves to be national champion and therefore; number 1. You have not just a good team but a standout program. You'll be around for quite awhile.
So enjoy the honors you so richly deserve. Maybe next year we can do it again (different result).  ;D
MUC.... ummmm I'll make you a deal here and now..If we do face each other, and If (hush my mouth and say it isn't so) UMU should win then I will put a UMU sticker on my back window of my blazer for a year. BUT... should the Cru once again face UMU in the Stagg and be victorious (I like that outcome better) then you would sport a UMHB sticker on the back of you vehicle for a year.. deal?

Need to think about that one. Do I get odds? That's a scary proposal of yours. I'll get back to ya!  :o

My last comment on this.  I think Hardin-Simmons is a quality team and worthy of a top 10 ranking, meaning they COULD be competitive against anyone in the top 10.  Could they get blown out by any of those top 10'ers?  Sure.  Could they keep it close?  Yes.  And I'm also going to give credit to the ASC as a whole as I feel that TLU, SW and ETBU have built respectable programs.  TLU had an outstanding team in 2014 and another in 2015 and, after tanking a bit in 2016, have put together two good seasons.  SW is getting better each year and ETBU has had recent success as well.  HSU I believe would fair quite well against the majority of the teams in the top 25 and could give several in the top 10 a run for their money, including most of the teams in the Mt. Union bracket this year.  Congrats UMHB and to the ASC for a solid year.

DFWCrufan

By the way UMHB - SOLD THE HOUSE OUT! UMHB you were the home to my kids for years, you taught them and educated them to stand brave and upright that the Lord may love them, be without fear and do no wrong. It was outstanding to sit with this crowd Friday night, and I even had someone leave me an unopened beer on my blazers bumper beneath my UMHB Dad sticker... Thanks for that!
Till next season, I'm gonna give baseball a try and see if I can get into it. Until commitment season all have a great Christmas Holiday, a outstanding and prosperous New Year and always remember... Go Cru!

Heh heh... we had that one with Linfield fans and it almost flew, but they thought different at the last moment, good thing we won at home. Just some good natured banter... I hope Fulford will be on the mend that was a nasty landing!

D O.C.

This has to be one of the best Sunday mornings this year in the lives of Crusader fans.
Congratulations.

Fun to watch even though the chippy stuff bothered me during the game.

I can't do that to ya. I don't want to embarrass you by having a Mount sticker on your car. Look! Here is some info for your consideration.

       YEAR.  NATIONAL CHAMPION

      2015   Mount Union
      2016.  Mary Hardin-Baylor
      2017.  Mount Union
      2018.  Mary Hardin-Baylor

Do you see a pattern here? It's MOUNT's turn next year! Guess that settles that. I think it's rather magnanimous of me to spare you the embarrassment of a sticker on your car.
Enjoy your well deserved victory. UMHB is the best (this year)!  ;D

With respect to HSU, they lost Pre-season All American Jaquan Hemphill against ETBU (4th game of the season). In the first 4 games, Hemphill had 60 rushes for 675 yards for a 168.8 yd/g average and 11.3 yds per carry for 9 TD's. He also had 4 receptions for 41 yds including a long of 26.

HSU played UMHB in the 5th game of the season.

Now that the 2018 season is finished and in the books has anyone heard any more if Shenandoah is going to host the 2019 Stagg Bowl? I know there were some reports that the City of Shenandoah didn't realize everything that was involved hosting the Stagg Bowl, but some of the key players who were the major players to bring the Stagg Bowl to Shenandoah are no longer working for the City of Shenandoah. From what I can tell the attendance was the best since 1994, so Texas pulled through and allowed for great optics for the ESPN cameras.

Thoughts?

The city of Shenandoah didn't exactly do itself a lot of favors at the start of this process but from everything that is publicly available the only problems were minimal and I would say everything went great. Things could change but the PA announcer did say that the game would be back in 2019.
