Such a great overall win today. CB's were lock down and stout in run coverage. They got off blocks really well and disrupted the backfield. The OLine and Dline looked completely different. Poorman looked really good and Hammack was superb. I think he had a lot of adrenaline on that first throw!

The RBs actually looked like they wanted to run downhill tonight. I thought the secondary was great. HPU had been fairly prolific. Their QB had been the ASC offensive player of the week twice I believe. The only area I saw to focus this week was breaking down on kick coverage and backfield pursuit. A few missed talked were the result of just flying past the ball carrier.

This was a whole different team this week.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Agreed, and it was fun to watch. We ended up in the grass on the south endzone so it was a different view than normal watching punt returns. Seems like the returners bottled themselves up. HPU was doing a decent job of covering, but the returners were cutting up field too close to the sideline and their momentum was carrying them out of bounds or close enough to the sideline that a small push was enough. If that's all I can complain about.

I loved the output on offense. watching Luke blocking down field on the reverse was great. Seeing Vining back out on the field late was great

The defense was what expected. Coach Fred said they had a come to Jesus meeting this week, looks like some folks walked he aisle. Kelly said he stopped by practice and the team was running laps. My friend Chris, who teaches in the business school said his students that are players were talking about a shake up this week and some of the players leaving the team. Whatever the coaches did this week seems to have worked.

Anyone have a clue why they're not putting the games up on stretch? Can't a guy just re-watch a nice win!!

Haven't put games up since 2017, highlight clips aren't being released either.

"HPU had been fairly prolific. Their QB had been the ASC offensive player of the week twice I believe."

I think that was a product of the competition they had played.

They were actually up at one point last week, but required a password to view (that I don't have lol).  Iirc, the clips were done by a student who graduated in 2018.

Ehh, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt offensively.  They beat Austin College by two scores (who then went on to beat a top 25 ranked team two weeks later).  They also put up 20 points and 300+ yards of offense against Hardin-Simmons last weekend.

HPU's QB play on Saturday was a product of the competition he was playing. Last year Baca and Hover were the first team QB's for the all-conference selection and neither of them did anything of note against UMHB's defense either. Estes won those awards the first two weeks because he out performed everyone else on the field. Going 52-64 for 706 yds, 10 TD's and 0 Int's is near impossible against the JV scout team, much less in the man's first two collegiate starts. Now that he's faced his toughest two tests of the season in weeks three and four (and I thought performed very well against HSU), I would expect to see HPU's offense be pretty competitive the rest of the season. That assumes they don't run into injury problems, they are not as deep as some of the programs still on their schedule.

I just saw the box score for UMHB v Howard Payne. 80 yds of total offense for HPU?! After firing on all cylinders for the first 2 games and putting up very respectable numbers against HSU, that is a defensive annihilation by UMHB. Wow.

it seems you have no problem at QB, with Jase, Luke and whoever else. You've always had a scary defense. Now, it looks like you've added a pretty good offense. Bad news for the rest of us.
Now, my question. As a Mount Union grad, I'm interested in comments on Luke Poorman, since he transferred from Mount.
What are your thoughts? I know he has talent. How does he compare to Jase? How does he fit into the UMHB offense? Good passer? Good scrambler?
Just curious on your thinking. I promise not to quote anybody on this board to: ESPN, ABC News or any other media. I personally hope he does well (up to the Stagg Bowl).
Any thoughts would be appreciated. His name pops up here from time to time.
Thanks in advance. And one more thing, Go Cru!  ::)  ;D

My thoughts
Jase, better arm but slower on the run. Both have good situational awareness but Luke can get out of it quicker this season (So far). Both have good command of the Offense and the lines seem to be responding to them better each week so the gelling process seems to be moving along nicely.
I see Luke as a close #2, not a #2 that the coach would go to grudgingly but a #2 which the coach has confidence depending on the situation. It looks like Tommy seems to be the wildcat QB and he does that very well, but I don't see Tommy moving into the spot Luke now has. So that is where I see it anyway, Luke is a great talent and he and Jase compliment each other.

Thanks a lot. From reading your posts over time, I know you are very knowledgable about The Cru. Just curious since I (we) have watched Luke play. We all wished him the best before he left (except for the ONE game).
Good luck to you guys the rest of the season, although you don't need it. Go Cru!
See you in the Stagg?  8-)  ;D

UMHB and their two quarterback offense so often.  ???

TLU had a very strong game vs. SW.  This team looks like it could be on a similar level as their 2013-2015 teams.  That 1st game loss to Hendrix may cost them a playoff bid unless they can knock of HSU this week.  And I think they can, but it will take a huge effort.  They beat HSU on the road in 2014 for the first time ever, I believe.  They gave the game away in 2015 with offensive penalties and turnovers in a very tight game in Seguin.  Since then, HSU has pretty much dominated.  I look forward to this one. I think it will be a very physical game.   McMurry is going thru 1st-year coach growing pains for sure.  It's been a tough go, but so long as the new coach is getting a full commitment from the university, I think that program will move forward.  In order to be competitive, they need the same commitment from their administration that their neighbors (HSU) get.  Hopefully they understand that upgrading facilities and supporting the coaching staff in what they need will improve the overall university in many ways.  With UMHB coming to town, they should see what sort of excitement and benefit a successful football team brings to a campus.  Looking forward to this weekend's games.

DFWCru is spot on about Jase having the better arm. He's also strong in the pocket with a little more size than Luke. Luke is good and the team responds well to him, but going on coaches comments my guess is Jase is the  more vocal leader which seems to be a big thing for coach Fred. Luke is efficient and i like it every time i se him in the game. The line seems to block well for him and he gets it done.

I've been very impressed with the character of guys Coach Neal has brought to McM. I run into them out and about in Abilene and they have all been solid good people. He's going to need a couple of recruiting classes to really see a change, but Jordan will be successful. I'll be at the game saturday, and my guess is it'll be like many I've seen before score wise, but I hope the young one's on McM learn from the game what the next level's next level looks like not just experience it.
