TLU had a very strong game vs. SW.  This team looks like it could be on a similar level as their 2013-2015 teams.  That 1st game loss to Hendrix may cost them a playoff bid unless they can knock of HSU this week.  And I think they can, but it will take a huge effort.  They beat HSU on the road in 2014 for the first time ever, I believe.  They gave the game away in 2015 with offensive penalties and turnovers in a very tight game in Seguin.  Since then, HSU has pretty much dominated.  I look forward to this one. I think it will be a very physical game.   McMurry is going thru 1st-year coach growing pains for sure.  It's been a tough go, but so long as the new coach is getting a full commitment from the university, I think that program will move forward.  In order to be competitive, they need the same commitment from their administration that their neighbors (HSU) get.  Hopefully they understand that upgrading facilities and supporting the coaching staff in what they need will improve the overall university in many ways.  With UMHB coming to town, they should see what sort of excitement and benefit a successful football team brings to a campus.  Looking forward to this weekend's games.
I've been very impressed with the character of guys Coach Neal has brought to McM. I run into them out and about in Abilene and they have all been solid good people. He's going to need a couple of recruiting classes to really see a change, but Jordan will be successful. I'll be at the game saturday, and my guess is it'll be like many I've seen before score wise, but I hope the young one's on McM learn from the game what the next level's next level looks like not just experience it.

From a program perspective, I see the value. Especially to see up close and personal the kind of athlete that brings a program to the "next level".  However, I'm not so sure about the player's perspective. From a player's perspective, the "next level" could look a lot like "a bunch of players who are faster, stronger, and more athletic than I will ever be."

Jase: Strong arm, bruising runner, and decisive in the pocket. I can't recall many turnovers either.

Luke: Shifty in the pocket and able to allude tackles, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being strongest, I would say his arm is a 7 where Jase's is a 9. He has also had a tendency to turn the ball over.

Bowden: Strong arm and strong runner. Look for him in the wildcat but definitely able to throw. I'd give him a 10 on arm strength. Not as big as Jase, I wonder how he'll hold up. He'll need to put on some muscle to carry the load for a full season. He's my early pick for the starter next year.

I heard that UMHB will travel with 4 QBs this weekend. I think Fred is feeling good about the outcome. Isiah Johnson, the big DT, has a something "floating in his shoulder" per Coach Fred on tonight's radio show. He said that as long as he can handle the pain, he can play. I look for them to rest him as long as possible.

I don't remember a time injuries have plagued us this much.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Only time it really hurt the Cru, a young Blake Jackson and turf toe kept him off the field.

This is true! We had a real chance in 2015 with Blake back there. He was really starting to handle everything when he got injured.

On the ridiculous sports story category for the week Hawley's RB ran for 516 yds and 7 tds last week on 12 carries.TWELVE CARRIES
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Write up from Dave Campbells Texas Football Review:
No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders (3-0, 2-0)
Last Week: Mary Hardin-Baylor steamrolled to 48 points in the first half as they defeated Howard Payne 65-0 last Saturday. Quarterbacks Jase Hammack and Luke Poorman combined to complete 16-of-23 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Ernest Musue had three catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns while Jo'Vel McDaniel scored two rushing touchdowns on only eight carries for the Cru. Tevin Jones once again led the team with eight tackles.

The Verdict: Last week, I wrote in this part about questions around the Cru offense. I was wrong! This week they looked like a team that can defend their national title and the offense benefited from the return of Jase Hammack from injury. I have no questions about this week.

This Week: UMHB travels to meet McMurry on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

QB Jock Itch

Nice solid win for UMHB, The Cru did exactly what you're supposed to do to an inferior opponent. Put your foot on the throat early. No disrespect to Mcmurry but they had a ton of young guys plus they didn't have their starting QB.

All 3 phases of the game The Cru dominated. 566 to 56 total yards says it all. I would think the starters only played a total of 2 full qtrs maybe less.

Two TLU pick-6's ruin a 302 rushing yard 3 TD performance by Jaquan Hemphill!

CowboyAlum261

Incredibly disappointing loss for HSU. Coaches need to take the off week as a chance to have a come to Jesus meeting. It's really easy to slip out of the top tier of the conference and incredibly hard to get back in once you're out. I can't fathom how you lose a game while having a 300 yard rusher, but 5 turnovers leading to 28 points is a hell of an advantage to give the other guys.
