Playing an ineligible player is an advantage, though.
Not enough of an advantage to justify vacating 29 wins, including the Stagg Bowl.

If the guy played in 29 games and was ineligible, that's the punishment, and has been consistently.
...I could see that if it was a blatant attempt to hide or mislead to get an advantage but I could bet the mortgage that coach Fred would not have played him in 29 games had he known he was ineligible. Not even Blake Jackson or Teidrick Smith or an other All American on the team like TJ Josey. So punish the coach by taking the wins from his resume and suspend the coach who made the mistake and take his pay if need be. Go through classes if that is called for but what is happening is like working for a company and 1 employee gets fired so since we are all on this team we all get fired because the boss made a mistake whether intentional or not.

Did the player get better by driving the car?

??? Not in any way relevant.

Except, that if driving the car allowed him to get to classes and to work and therefore stay in school ...
Heaven forbid a student athlete actually be able to stay in school.

That NCAA is certainly looking out for the student athletes, as always, and focusing on the important stuff. I guess dropping a disproportionately harsh, "one size fits all" penalty on a coach for the outrageous offense of being a decent human being will preserve the intergrity of the game ::)

Of course not. But in all truth, the coach should have known he was making the player ineligible, and the facts of the case, which are not in dispute, show that he had the opportunity available to make sure he was doing the right thing and he chose not to confirm with compliance.

Please enough talk about UMHB/NCAA. An appeal process is in place for issues like this. Let's talk about football.

Can Howard Payne get back to putting up some points like they did early on?

How does hsu respond after thinking about the loss from TLU for a couple of weeks?

Can Belhaven put up a fight?

Will TLU continue it's winning ways in dominating fashion?

Can Sul Ross stay focused and get another win after the longest road trip in the conference (11.5 hrs/800 miles one way)?

How many QBs will play in the UMHB/Southwestern game? O/U 5

D O.C.

Now, let's go back to the facts as we know them and opinions about the vacates.

Yeah. We've tried this point over and over. I don't think you are going to get them to agree.

I believe we all understand the ineligibility point due to receiving benefits. I think we don't agree that he received a benefit. It had no impact on on field performance or recruitment. This was found to be true.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Found these quotes from the Southwestern coach on a random blog.

"We've lost five linebackers, four quarterbacks, three defensive backs, two running backs," said Southwestern head coach Joe Austin. "Last week we were without our punter and our long snapper. It's been crazy."

"This will be our fourth different starting quarterback in our five games," said Austin. "The only quarterbacks that we have left on our roster are true freshmen."

"We're moving guys from other positions who were high school quarterbacks just to fill out the roster," said Austin. "We've had to cancel JV games because we're so thin."

Now these were said before the Belhaven game so maybe they have recovered a bit from injury but man that is rough. They do a weekly show on YouTube Thursday night so Ill be interesting to check in and see what Coach says about the game this weekend.

Side note, tonight was the Coach Fredenberg show which is aired on the local Fox Sports radio outlet which also plays Astros game. Figured for sure the show would be canceled because of the ALCS, nope, they stopped the game and Jon did updates every now and then but the game ended during the show.

Thank you!

My guesses to your questions..  No!  Well, I think so.  Definitely No!  I hope, YES!  I don't know!  and Southwestern will play its starting middle linebacker at QB I suspect, so possibly!

I can't wait to see what happens this weekend and look forward to reading and participating in some football discussions. Seriously and with sincerity!

This stuff is a helluva salvo for your first post. Just FYI, we don't do this much around here. Check the Terms of Service and also, if you read the board, you know this is a smidge out of bounds.

I've been reading these boards for years now  and never posted before, but this whole argument has been driving me crazy so I felt the need to add in my opinion.
Before I say anything else, let it be known that I have significant ties to a number of D3 schools - including UMHB.

1. The "good intentions" act being put  on by the UMHB faithful is comical. The car was 100% (unproven substantiation)

2. The player was (unproven substantiation) who possibly would have never (unproven substantiation) if not for the benefits. So the claim that the benefits did not help the team win is ludicrous.

3. The Cru should count themselves lucky that the NCAA didn't dig further and all they received was vacated wins. I know for certain  that (unproven substantiation). Not to mention the oddly convenient (unproven substantiation).

I'm not saying that these types of things are exclusive to UMHB, it's very possible that this happens in a number of programs. But the "poor us" attitude is too much to handle. The program has pushed the limits of the rules for a while now, and I would say they probably got off easy.

They won a national championship, that success led to easier recruiting and more money coming in, which led to another national championship. If the only punishment is having those wins erased on paper, I think a lot of programs would take that deal in a second.

D3 Junkie 27

Well I apologize for overstepping. I just felt like the board was avoiding the reality of the situation.

Like I said, if I have any skin in the game, it's with UMHB so I wasn't just spewing unsubstantiated slander. All the allegations are true and grounded through staff/alumni/former players/even the recruiter of the athlete that received the car.

I understand if we want to keep this board light-hearted, so I will bow out and gladly continue to be an observer.

Looks like you can expand your TV watching as Blake Jackson was picked up by the Houston Roughnecks.
