So far the HSU Def line is dominating the Cru Oline and Hemphill is having his way.

Not sure what the Offensive Game Plan was for today but they should throw it away

Crazy ending. Can't wait to see the video

That was quite the finish in Belton. I'm an impartial observer from the East but I really think the Crew got a huge break from the officials in those last seconds. Looked to me like the play clock expired. In any rate a 2nd loss by Harden-Simmons actually helps the East because it makes it much harder for the ASC to get a second bid. Then again maybe Texas Lutheran will knock off UMHB. Those Pool C bids are going to be precious.

I also thought play clock had expired. UMHBs offense also stayed on the field after the last play for awhile before suddenly rushing off the field so I'm pretty sure officials were supposed to not allow ball to be snapped until HS got the chance to also sub. Not really sure the nuances of that rule, though. Hell of a game and the good ones usually have controversy.

2 flags thrown on the play. Not sure how it was interpreted. Will be interesting

I'm very interested in the Cru faithful perspective on that ending

Flags that were picked up and waived off with no explanation. Definitely a substitution penalty there, and it sure looked to me like the play clock was at 00 from where I was sitting. No game is ever decided by one call, so I'm not blaming the refs for our loss, that one in particular just really hurts.

Even so, great game, played more than well enough to win. Now we just have to win out and pray for chaos.

It's hard to tell or be certain what the play clock was at the time of the snap.  Couple of reasons:  1) any digital version of it on the screen may be out of sync and 2) different cameras at different positions have different delays.  You really need a shot with the play and the game clock in the same picture to know for sure.

Watching live, I thought they got the play off.  I'm amazed they got everybody on and set in time in that fire drill.

I wasn't watching the play clock, but did it even reset? Thought the 3rd down catch was with about 20 seconds remaining...

The play clock is irrelevant at that point, no?

Announcers said (at least one) of the flags was for unsportsmanlike on HS. This video doesn't show the moments leading up to the kick, but shows UMHB was indeed set, but shows HS players still scrambling to sub. https://twitter.com/TemBelSports/status/1188201852518711297?s=20

Rule says that once offense subs, defensive players must sub "promptly". If defensive players take too long or appear to delay, the refs can throw a delay of game penalty to stop any unfairness to UMHB - but again, this contemplates that a ref is standing over the ball actually stopping the snap from occurring. From my view on the webcast, none of the refs ever stood over the ball to ensure/evaluate whether HS had a chance to sub, so I think its a bad look from the get go. Wasn't even on the refs radar. Feel bad for both teams. Also - none of this takes away from the fact that it was an incredible kick that looked like it would have been good from 60.

I thought there was 37 seconds on the clock after the run play and then they threw that last pass on 3rd and 13 but I could be wrong

tigerguy

I also take back part of my previous comment. You can somewhat tell from the linked video that the ref walking backwards had indeed been over the ball halting the snap for a tad. Hopefully someone comes up with some longer video so we can get a better idea of the timing.
