We were fortunate/lucky to pull out the win. It felt like HSU wanted it more most of the game.

In all honesty, I wasn't really impressed with either teams overall performance on offense.

I also thought play clock had expired. UMHBs offense also stayed on the field after the last play for awhile before suddenly rushing off the field so I'm pretty sure officials were supposed to not allow ball to be snapped until HS got the chance to also sub. Not really sure the nuances of that rule, though. Hell of a game and the good ones usually have controversy.

It's hard to tell or be certain what the play clock was at the time of the snap.  Couple of reasons:  1) any digital version of it on the screen may be out of sync and 2) different cameras at different positions have different delays.  You really need a shot with the play and the game clock in the same picture to know for sure.

Watching live, I thought they got the play off.  I'm amazed they got everybody on and set in time in that fire drill.

Kudos to Avila for making such a clutch kick after rushing through his routine. As someone pulling for HSU I think they got the play off. From my experience there's usually somewhat of a grace period from the ref looking at the clock to then looking at the ball to see if it had been snapped  so even if the clock was technically on zero when they snapped it I think it was fine to let the play stand.

If The Cru ends up going to the playoffs and play like we did today, I don't see us getting past the first round. The last few games most of the plays were simple, basic plays. The reason given was that UMHB didn't want to tip their hand to HSU of what's in the playbook. Well, here we are today playing HSU and we are still running up the middle! It seemed that Jase wasn't playing at 100%, he did not seem very mobile when he came out of the pocket. So, was that the reason for the simple, basic plays? As it was said earlier that it appeared that HSU wanted the win more than The Cru did. I'm glad that The Cru got the win, but they have a lot of work to do.

After seeing Pat's arguments on Twitter, I can admit that the kick was fairly called. It doesn't make the result suck any less, but I think the refs got it right. Still hell of an effort to give the number 1 team in the country everything they can handle on homecoming.

Crazy ending. Can't wait to see the video

I'm very interested in the Cru faithful perspective on that ending

We sucked all game save 4 seconds. HSU out played, out game planned, and out coached us in every facet. UMHB did not "win" the day, but they won the points.

This is one of the instances that being a D3 fan sucks because not enough pressure can be put on the coaches for the pathetic play calling. Conservative and lack luster all day.

Several have said, and the post game audio by Coach Fred also noted, that HSU did some things on defense we weren't expecting: the three man line. But in the second half, especially in the fourth, HSU played with four lineman and a safety deep. We HAVE to throw when teams are man to man on us. We didn't do that much at all.

I love Jonell, but he misses easy catches. Brenton Martin has barely been targeted two weeks in a row now, and Ernest Musue has been overlooked as well. TJ and KJ aren't coming back, and guys need to make the plays.

Honestly, though, the coaches need to pull a Michael Jackson and look at the man in the mirror, cause they did not plan well or adjust well.

Play clock was off after Ruckman caught the 3rd down throw and did not get first. Avilla looked back at the game clock with 6 seconds left. I know cause I looked at the same time. He took two side steps to set and the ball was hiked with 3-4 seconds left.

From where I was standing the game clock still had 2 seconds left when the ball was snapped. The confusion came in because the clock operator did not turn off the play clock and let it keep running. It should have been turned off because there was less than 25 seconds on the game clock after the third down play. The officials made the correct call.

This camera angle (with convenient zoom to the scoreboard to show the time) would controvert this.

Clock shows 4 seconds as its zooming out, and Avill hasn't even begun his side steps yet. Again, will need some clearer video, but HS may have more of an argument on this than I thought.

Impossible for me to tell there where the action starts with the video jumping around so violently pre-snap.  I still think they got the play in on time.

2 flags thrown on the play. Not sure how it was interpreted. Will be interesting
Flags that were picked up and waived off with no explanation. Definitely a substitution penalty there, and it sure looked to me like the play clock was at 00 from where I was sitting. No game is ever decided by one call, so I'm not blaming the refs for our loss, that one in particular just really hurts.

Even so, great game, played more than well enough to win. Now we just have to win out and pray for chaos.
Actually we were told it was a Unsportsmanlike on HSU - But it was after the play so no call

Yes after seeing Pat's posting of the rule book I conceded there was no substitution penalty. Although even Coach Fredenberg lamented that the umpire failed to stand over the ball after the game.
