There's no easy way to extend the season.

About play-in games and the logistics -- there's a ton of issues with adding a week all the way around. We can't really start a week earlier because it's a burden to house all of those student-athletes on campus for an additional week before classes start. We don't want to go a week later because of the holidays. We don't want to go after Jan. 1 because of the expense, and because there are still some two-sport athletes (and even if there aren't, we don't want to make it impossible). We can't play games more than once every seven days.

In addition, there is a hard cap by legislative vote on the football playoffs at 32 teams.

I can see starting a week earlier would be an issue but going into the holidays I don't see as a problem.  Or at least I don't see it as a problem compared to giving more teams (players) a chance to experience post season football.  Pushing the season back one more week this year only would effect 2 teams having to deal with practicing around Christmas.  If that is an issue move the championship game to after January 1 and let the kids have off a week for Christmas break.
And for the potential of multiple sport athletics, how many would this effect compared to the number of athletics that would get to experience championship play even if just for 1 game.

If I'm a UMHB fan, I am drooling over this mock. After the brackets the past few years, this would be by far the most favorable one for y'all. I hate that we stumbled against a lesser team this year, especially with the new rule. I think we could have had a favorable match up in the first round. Good luck in this years playoff run.

As it should for the recent National Championship. I would have love to see Hardin-Simmons as well, maybe we can get a OOC game in the near future, we have room.

I have to agree that the proposed bracket is definitely not the hardest (on paper) that we have had to go through. Not holding my breath though, in 17 our gift was a Top 10 match up in every round after the first playoff game.

Lol shoot last year you had to play HSU, St. Johns, and UW-W just to get to the Stagg Bowl. None of the "perennial powers" are on that side of the bracket except for MHB, I like the chances of y'all making it based off that mock up.

Last year was a killer no doubt, but in 2017 I was a little more hopeful for the spoils of war treatment for winning in 16.

So, you completely ignored my post. You laughed at me because I said UMHB had also had to deal with getting left out after having only one loss. You said it wasn't true. It did happen. 2003.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Probably goes without saying, but Baylor Mullins is an awesome person in my book.  Let me explain. He and my son met one time when we went on a recruiting trip to the Cruthedral.  I met Baylor that day as well.  We ended up choosing HSU, so my son and Baylor went to battle many times over the years (son's last season was last year).  Anyways, last night I was at the Tolar vs Gunter playoff game and Baylor approached me and immediately asked how my son was, called him by name and asked me to tell him hello.  This was incredible to me, one that I only had met Baylor one time and that he remembered who I was, but two to take time at halftime of their game to stop and ask about my kid and tell him hello.  People of Tolar, you have good men coaching your kids.

I called my son after the game and told him hello from Baylor, he said..."ya Baylor is a good dude, fierce competitor on the field, little bit of a trash talker on the field, but exactly the kind of guy you want on your team.

Like I said this information is probably not anything new to the Cru Nation, but I still wanted to take the time to mention it.  A+ guy in my book!

So sorry Chad, I was thinking of something within the past 15 years. I would have been 11 when that occurred with a 28 team playoff, so I was thinking of within the rules that we have now.

We should get the softest opponent available after the murderers row the committee saddled us with last year, but knowing them, we'll probably end up getting a ranked team like Redlands or Berry in the 1st round.

That's a pretty good stab at it, though I do think that the committee will try to set up a Redlands/Chapman matchup in the second round to save money on a flight.

Ouch, that one is a lot more brutal, from a UMHB perspective, than the first one. North Central in the 2nd round for the #2 defending National Champs? Yikes.
