For all you Belton experts, what barbeque places do you recommend? I've visted Belton several times as my kid goes to UMHB, but am still a relatively newbie. I've been to:

Miller's BBQ: seemed high quality and a very good lunch scene. nice traditional downtown location.
Clem Mikeska's: good family style place with easy access in a busy retail area
Backyard BBQ: maybe favorite for some reason. hole in the wall. sticky picnic table seating. but great casual atmosphere.
The Gin at Nolan Creek: had fried catfish which was awesome and really liked the place, but not a pure BBQ joint.

Miller's is pretty good as you've mentioned. I actually don't like Clem's but that is personal preference. Schoepf's is decent and is usually worth the trip just for the cheesy potatoes lol. We don't eat BBQ much there anymore since we live down near Austin and there are so many great places down this way. Instead, we go to jaliscos for the cheap hole in the wall tex mex lol.

Yeah, I want to try Schoepf's. I didn't even notice it when searching for BBQ places my first few times there. I've seen Jalisco's mentioned on some UMHB twitter feeds so I might need to try that out. I likes me some tex mex too!

Miller's Smokehouse in Belton is the best BBQ in the area in my opinion.  They're a Texas Monthly Magazine Top 50 BBQ Joint on the 2017 and 2013 lists.  TMM publishes their list every 4 years or so.  I've never been impressed with Schoepf's Bar-B-Que.  We go to Clem Mikeska's Bar-B-Q in Belton for their Crusader Burger, Belton Tiger Burger, and White Wings (pieces of chicken breast, wrapped in bacon with a juicy center of jack cheese & jalapeño).  I don't care much for Clem's BBQ.  I've been to Backyard Bar-B-Q Bar and Grill once, and it was good.

Just some FYI & FWIW: Over the past 30 games the UMHB defense has given up an average of 7.7 points per game. The last time a team has scored 20 or more points in a game was 21 by ETBU on November 11, 2017. The next highest score, in the past 30 games, was 18 posted by St. John's on December 1, 2018. Over the past 40 games the UMHB D is yielding 7.4 points a game. Over the past 4 seasons, where The CRU is 54-1, UMHB is giving up 10.25 points a game. Keep in mind this includes points given up during "garbage time."

Oh man, those White Wings sound awesome. Good thing lunch is coming up.

Those are some impressive defensive stats. It's no scheduling fluke either. UMHB has only given up 12 ppg on average in the playoffs the past three years (best teams in the country).

Good luck to Redlands and UMHB today. Clean game, hard fought, and no injuries.

Keith Gipson has played a TREMENDOUS ball game!  Two picks, one of them for a TD and another TD on a punt return!  Broke up several passes too.  Outstanding!

Congratulations to UMHB on the win. Good luck the rest of the way.

The turning point of the game was at the end of the first half. Redlands has the ball and could have scored at least a fg. With two timeouts, they had the ball around if not inside the UMHB 20. Poor clock management led to not even a fg attempt. To start the second half, Redlands drives the field and scores. It could have easily been a one score game before UMHB got their first possession in the second half. Any thoughts on this, Redlands fans?

Yes, very poor clock management. Redlands has an all conference kicker too with five field goals on the season of 45+ yards. Redlands made too many mistakes though. Four major special teams mistakes led to 23 points for UMHB. Redlands defense held up pretty well, so they did their job. I said earlier in the week that Redlands would need to be mistake free, and they were far from it. The better team won today, simple as that.

Question to all who watched the Cru yesterday. just me or was Hammack off. Seemed like his throws weren't as strong as usual and mobility was not great either. I texted umhb2001 in game and he thought something was off too.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

You weren't alone. Jase wasn't very sharp at all, missing quite a few easy throws that he usually makes. I'm hoping he just had an off game, and isn't dealing with some kind of injury. That kind of performance should be enough next week, but after that, he'll need to be a lot better.

Yeah, I wondered about a few throws that just randomly didn't make it. There was one pass behind the line of scrimmage to the right that just didn't even come close to making it. He got pretty lucky with a few really bad decisions and seemed to lock in to Jonel a few times when he had a wide open receiver running a seem route.  Noticed Jaylan Jenkins getting a talking to after making a cut into the defender on two straight screen passes too. Just a bit of scab picking though... We got the W and no one got hurt so all is good.

umhb2001

Yeah, he looked off. Perhaps someone close to him will respond on the board.  ;) When Luke was in, the OLine did not block. I think Bowden should get more run, but Fred may be holding off on him as much as possible.

Jase is not as mobile as he was last year. We will have to get some runs, swing passes, and screens to account for his immobility, and there is no TJ Josey coming in to help.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!
