UMHB loses appeal, must vacate title:  https://www.d3football.com/notables/2020/06/umhb-appeal-denied-must-vacate-title

This article mentions a self-imposed "two year probation period for the football team" - probation from what?  If it's postseason play, would it start now that the appeal process has been exhausted?

NCAA probation is usually a list of requirements schools are held to for whatever the imposed time period.  Training and education programs, publicizing the infractions, and regular check-ins or reports to the NCAA on compliance/progress of the action items in the terms of the probation are common.  A program's failure to do the things asked of them during probation would escalate penalties (and lead to something like a postseason ban).  I think of it as kind of like a diversion program.

After reading the article on the front page, I think vacating the title was excessive. Will it lead to less self-reporting? Probably.

The local ESPN radio did a pretty long interview with Coach, mainly about his time at Baylor but some UMHB stuff as well.

@d3football:  LC has applied to follow MC into NAIA

Anxious to hear thoughts on their reason, in looking at the conference they are moving too it doesn't appear that travel would be much better.

Which MC are you referring too?

NAIA allows you carry far fewer sports than NCAA does, so it gives them the leeway to cut programs if they need to.  May be other reasons, but that's got to be part of it.

More fleshed out story.

I assume every school right now has to look to cut costs -- cutting sports is one way to do it. Mass-Dartmouth this morning announced it was cutting eight sports.

Yeah, if you're a school with under 1000 kids right now (and Pat says LC is under 900), you're desperately looking to cut costs right now

Mississippi College, but I guess they went D2, not NAIA.

Oh ok, I figured but wasnt sure if I missed a recent school.

Will be interesting to see how school fill the eventual void in their schedule, 2 non conference games is better than it was a few years back but I assume it was very nice knowing you only have to find one for a couple of years.

D O.C.

I realize events carried over into 2020, but I don't remember (since 1999) an off season with such earth shuddering events as UMHB and Wesley.

Looks like the Cru aren't doing season tickets this year and all seating at games will be general admission.  Have to buy tickets the week of the game.

What's your thoughts on claiming a national title if some schools do end up playing this season and others do not? If some of the schools that are legitimate contenders for the title don't play this season does it feel like less of a championship than if everyone was playing?

I think I would feel like I will with this years NBA and NHL playoffs, if the playoffs feel normal and most of the heavy hitters are represented I wouldn't think any less of a championship.
