Yeah it was just a weird game overall. Avila is often automatic on field goals, and it just wasn't his day, but he made the kick when it counted. As for the passing game, we'll see what Coach Fred says today at his press conference...ETBU gave Bowden hardly any room and he had nowhere to scramble to off the RPO like he had been doing. King was poised down the stretch, and personally, I think that comes from experience. King is a junior who developed with the JV in 2019 while Bowden is a sophomore who didn't play much in 2019. Miller brings a lot to the running game. The more carries he gets, the better.

Anyone else having issues with the audio on the live video stream today for the UMHB game?

Missed the first half, what happened to Avila?

Missed the first half, what happened to Avila?

Kicked the opening kickoff and walked off a little gingerly and never kicked again, was in street clothes for the entire second half. Thankfully his backup seems to be steady, going 8 for 9 on PATs.

Hopefully this will be addressed in today's meeting with the media.

Well, this is it. So glad the Cru woke up this week. We will have to be better against HSU. Enough motivation already, but avenging the last second loss in '19 will be on their mind. I know it is still weighing heavily on coach Burleson. My cousin is good friends with him and has said as much. Should be fun.

Can't say I blame him, I would pay good money for video of his reaction to Avila hitting that kick, watching from 50 yards away was something but if I could get a close up I am guessing some beeps would be necessary haha.

The board has been too quiet. Can we talk about the upcoming fall season and the offensive potential of UMHB with Cormier and Miller in the back field?
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I'll jump in.  Of course the biggest problem in predicting the next season in D3 is knowing what players will actually be back.  Still, I think we look pretty solid.  OLine could be a real strength.  Losing Sellers, but everybody else is young and got some real hosses coming in with the new class.  Solid at QB with King, and at RB with Cormier, Miller and Melek.  Receivers really solid.  To me the question on offense is what to do with Bowden--he's just too talented to have on the sideline.  I think that--with the exception of KJ--he's the most electric playmaker we have.  Do you use him in the slot, or maybe as a wildcat QB like we used DeNerian in 2018?
Defense could be elite once again if the youngsters in the middle develop.  Linebackers and safeties look strong but our corners were exposed against ETBU and HSU.
Well, that's my $0.02.  Anybody else?

I agree with all of this, though I'd like to see the Crusaders bring in a speedster or two at WR. I think the guys we have are solid, but we could use an Aaron Sims type who can take a 5-yard reception and out run the defense for a long score. We need some homerun threats in the passing game.

The defense should always get the benefit of the doubt. They seem to reload after losing great players every year. As you said, it will be very interesting to see who takes advantage of the extra year of eligibility. The more the better.

For now, I'm just looking forward to the release of the fall schedule so I can plan which games I'll be attending.

I'm kind of hoping Aaron Sims was just taking a full year off like KJ did in 2019...  Cormier was really impressive against HSU and Montana showed some flashes of something special.  I'm not sure if he is as fast as the other RB's though which might keep him from becoming the starter (I mean, who wouldn't love to see him go after Markeith's records?).

Defensively we had flashes of brilliance.  I loved watching them shake it up with the three man front.  It seemed like we were getting a lot of pressure with it in the first few games.  I really hope that Fritz makes it back if only to see him push the interception record further.

I think these are some good points. I do still have questions about the QB. We missed some easy tosses inside the 15 and had to kick FG. One passing TD was by a WR. Why do you think it is we have never had an elite QB? Coaches? Play calling? Kyle Jones looked better at times and 3 years ago he couldn't do anything against Mount in the Stagg.

We really didn't get the ball to KJ that much. Why does Lee not use him on crossing patterns or slants? All this talk about Caleb Eagans and we don't see him one time? How do you keep a 4.2 40 guy on the sideline when he is healthy?

And finally, how do we continue to give up plays underneath? This has been an issue going back to games played at Belton HS.

We should have put 35-40 on HSU and we underachieved. We still have a lot to do if we want to win the Stagg, in December, in Ohio or anywhere else.

We have home run threats. KJ is the best hands and athlete on the field. He needs at least 6-10 throws a game.

Brenton Martin is vastly underutilized. Caleb Eagans was healthy for the last two games and runs a 4.2 40. No sight of him.

As great as we are, I sometimes wonder if the coaching sometimes gets in their own way.
