UMHB looked good today. Pulled up the HPU game today and the feed on YouTube included chat. The HPU posters were pretty sure HSU and UMHB would fall to the hands of HPU.

Who knows?? Perhaps. But they haven't played anyone of note. UMHB has been pushed and now knows what it takes to play wire to wire.

Should be an interesting next couple weeks.

LOL they have to come from behind to squeak past Southwestern and they're still mouthing off about beating HSU and UMHB?

Pretty sure that was earlier in the game when they had a lead?

Howard Payne scored the first 14 points, then Southwestern scored the next 17 and held the lead for most of the 4th quarter. HPU then scored with only 1:29 left in the game and sealed it with a late pick.

No matter what, not the type of game that is going to convince Top 25 voters you are quite ready to be ranked or unbiased fans to think you are going to beat HSU or UMHB.

Haven't made up my mind yet for the pick'ems but I am tempted to pick Belhaven to beat HPU next week. I imagine Belhaven will have a similar game plan as they had with HSU and run, run, run and hope to just never give the ball to HPU.

I'm happy for their confidence. I know they have a few Juco transfers that have really boosted them. We'll definitely know here soon as their schedule ramps up. I hope they win big against Belhaven and fight to the finish vs HSU. I'd love for them to be ranked when we play them.

The biggest scare for UMHB is QB2/QB3. For whatever reason, the team continues to put Bowden as QB2 when Redding has outplayed him every step of the way.

Bowden looked very promising against the team from Mexico back in '19. He did NOT impress against teams in the Spring and has done squat this fall passing the ball. He needs to be moved to WR.

Hopefully the coaches figure this out soon.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Yes!  If King gets injured and your in the middle of a playoff run you must have a solid QB#2.
If you dont get tbe right QB#2 ready it could cost you a playoff win!  Redding has never played bad or even been allowed to make any mistakes.  He started the 2019 season played lights out in the first half ....threw 2 incomplete passes to start the 3rd quarter and has not been heard from since. I hope king stays healthy and i hope we choose the best player if the situation arises and we need a QB#2 to play at a high level....but in order to do that QB #2 needs snaps in practice!

Oof, missed the timestamps on those then. I really hope they start playing well. It would be great to have a 3rd team being a perennial contender in tbe conference.

Honestly, Bowden has had some decent success this year running the ball. His passing and reads are still pretty far behind. He looked bad against tlu but was getting a ton of pressure.

I think Redding is confident enough that if we are to need him he could step in. The only thing I have to wonder about is if maybe he is going to not come back next year so they are trying to develop Tommy for next year. Although, I'm pretty sure King can come back next year too.

I believe Redding is a senior. We need to play for the now. And by the looks of the roster, they already know that Bowden probably won't play QB next year. There are quite a few QBs on the roster, and watching the JV, that QB is doing well. Redding is the answer for QB2. Coach Fred probably really likes Bowden and sticks with him longer than he should.

Fred has a history of falling in love with one guy and fails to see the obvious sometimes. It will be interesting to see what another head coach does whenever Coach Fred retires.

Yeah, coach Fred does get attached at times... I guess we should look on the bright side, we are 6 games in and debating the #2 qb. We have been thus deep into a season without a qb1 before... Maybe it is all coach Fred playing games with us anyways. There has been a lot of strange stuff on the roster and depth charts all year. Always seems to be too.

Not sure what to make of HPU. They only beat McMurry by 6 in McMurry's season opener. I really wonder if McMurry is much stronger under Coach Neal (and potentially can finish 5-4).

I think McMurry is way better in previous years, or the gap is getting smaller. I mean, a few games later they played hsu to within 3. But honestly, this is all me just doing some random speculating lol. I think Jake Parker for Howard Payne is one hell of a weapon and it looks like he is 15th in D3 in receiving yards.

I know what the HSU/MCM game score was, but HSU was never in jeopardy of losing that game. It was very similar to the Cowboys/Pats game Sunday. Everyone saw what the score was, but if you take a look at the stats it was a blowout. MCM had one offensive touchdown, and two lucky breaks on their other two TD's with special teams and a fumble that took a weird bounce into HSU's endzone.

I will say I'm skeptical of HPU, the record speaks volumes for them. However, their schedule has been very favorable to them. It'll be a tight game in Brownwood next weekend, but I ultimately think HSU wins by 2-3 scores.

News today out of Coach Pete's weekly press conference will be of interest to this group as Tommy Bowden is going to be shifted to another position, potentially to the defensive side of the ball. Tommy is clearly a gifted athlete, so I am pumped to see where his speed can be used in a more consistent basis.

But bigger news is the shift of the ASC to Region 3.....in the words of Lee Corso, not so fast. Darla Kirby, UMHB's Associate AD, has spoken to the ASC and the NCAA and they cannot confirm they have been moved. What the heck? How is it possible that this is even in doubt during Week 8 of the season, playoffs start in a month!

jknezek

Probably won't be "confirmed" until the manual comes out at this point.

I don't know what the ASC can't confirm it but we spoke to two people in the proper regions who have the conference reps we describe on their calls. We stand by our reporting.
