News today out of Coach Pete's weekly press conference will be of interest to this group as Tommy Bowden is going to be shifted to another position, potentially to the defensive side of the ball. Tommy is clearly a gifted athlete, so I am pumped to see where his speed can be used in a more consistent basis.

But bigger news is the shift of the ASC to Region 3.....in the words of Lee Corso, not so fast. Darla Kirby, UMHB's Associate AD, has spoken to the ASC and the NCAA and they cannot confirm they have been moved. What the heck? How is it possible that this is even in doubt during Week 8 of the season, playoffs start in a month!

I don't know what the ASC can't confirm it but we spoke to two people in the proper regions who have the conference reps we describe on their calls. We stand by our reporting.

All of this just doesn't seem like a good look for D3, to me it just look foolish. I have no reason to doubt the reporting but the region for 20 schools was changed (at an unknown time) and no official announcement? I realize we aren't D1, and I don't want us to be, but we can do better than that.

I don't disagree, but the number of people who care is pretty limited and it truly means nothing until the first Regional Rankings come out. And the Handbook has to come out before that, and it has to be in the Handbook. So "bad look" may be true, to an extremely limited number of people, but irrelevant is also true at this point.

You are right that this affects a small fraction of even D3 football fans but it also doesn't take much effort to fix. At this point I don't know how any news breaking events aren't just texted to Pat and then he can take it from there. I have little reason to doubt that at some point they put the ASC in Region 6 and the PAC is Region 3, then at some point after that they changed their mind. No big deal in the grand scheme of life but also pretty easy to report. Darla Kirby was fairly recently on the Championship Committee, if even she is in the dark or has no way of knowing the information that is a problem.

Why? She's an AD. When the handbook comes out, the information will be in there. If she's not currently on the committee, she doesn't really need to know ahead of time. There is nothing she can do about it. You could make an argument that the committee needs to know so they can do some homework before the first phone call, but really, how much time do you need? Most of us can slap together a pretty accurate Region Poll inside of 30 minutes, 60 minutes tops. This isn't rocket science.

Now, if she can't call someone and ask, that's different. I'd be hard pressed to believe she doesn't have a contact at the NCAA. Likely she did and the contact may have simply said, I'm not sure, handbook isn't out yet and there hasn't been an official announcement. Because that's mostly likely the answer. The handbook will be the official announcement unless the NCAA chooses to make a prior official announcement. I'm not sure why they would, it's not that big a deal, and so far they have chosen not to. So people may know, people may tell Pat and others, but from an "official" point of view, the party line is wait until the handbook is released.

And there isn't anything wrong with that other than the handful of us who are curious and way too interested in D3.

You are right this isn't rocket science, but we all pretty much agreed that the math they did work out was wrong when they developed the new 6 regions. They then changed their minds, which is admirable but I just don't agree with the notion that no one, especially an AD at an affected school, needs to know that.

The regional rankings aren't too challenging either but I would like to think that the members of the RAC have been paying attention to the right schools the first 7 weeks of the season.

And if they have been paying attention to the right teams than that information is available and there is no need to not share it.

I'd love to see him at wr if we weren't already stacked there. I always had dreams of seeing trick plays with TJ Josey passing the ball after he moved back to wr.... Maybe that would get some more of them in there lol.

I could definitely see it but as you indicated we are stacked and usually have other waiting in the wings for those roles. He does have the size and speed needed to be a good defensive back or even linebacker (not middle linebacker).

UMHB looked good today. Pulled up the HPU game today and the feed on YouTube included chat. The HPU posters were pretty sure HSU and UMHB would fall to the hands of HPU.

Who knows?? Perhaps. But they haven't played anyone of note. UMHB has been pushed and now knows what it takes to play wire to wire.

Should be an interesting next couple weeks.

LOL they have to come from behind to squeak past Southwestern and they're still mouthing off about beating HSU and UMHB?

Pretty sure that was earlier in the game when they had a lead?

No, it was when they were still behind.

Oof, missed the timestamps on those then. I really hope they start playing well. It would be great to have a 3rd team being a perennial contender in tbe conference.

Yes!  If King gets injured and your in the middle of a playoff run you must have a solid QB#2.
If you dont get tbe right QB#2 ready it could cost you a playoff win!  Redding has never played bad or even been allowed to make any mistakes.  He started the 2019 season played lights out in the first half ....threw 2 incomplete passes to start the 3rd quarter and has not been heard from since. I hope king stays healthy and i hope we choose the best player if the situation arises and we need a QB#2 to play at a high level....but in order to do that QB #2 needs snaps in practice!

Honestly, Bowden has had some decent success this year running the ball. His passing and reads are still pretty far behind. He looked bad against tlu but was getting a ton of pressure.

I think Redding is confident enough that if we are to need him he could step in. The only thing I have to wonder about is if maybe he is going to not come back next year so they are trying to develop Tommy for next year. Although, I'm pretty sure King can come back next year too.

I believe Redding is a senior. We need to play for the now. And by the looks of the roster, they already know that Bowden probably won't play QB next year. There are quite a few QBs on the roster, and watching the JV, that QB is doing well. Redding is the answer for QB2. Coach Fred probably really likes Bowden and sticks with him longer than he should.

Fred has a history of falling in love with one guy and fails to see the obvious sometimes. It will be interesting to see what another head coach does whenever Coach Fred retires.
I wouldn't be surprised if Cephas ends up on varsity after the JV season is done. I've heard they are pretty high on him for the future
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Howard Payne scored the first 14 points, then Southwestern scored the next 17 and held the lead for most of the 4th quarter. HPU then scored with only 1:29 left in the game and sealed it with a late pick.

No matter what, not the type of game that is going to convince Top 25 voters you are quite ready to be ranked or unbiased fans to think you are going to beat HSU or UMHB.

Haven't made up my mind yet for the pick'ems but I am tempted to pick Belhaven to beat HPU next week. I imagine Belhaven will have a similar game plan as they had with HSU and run, run, run and hope to just never give the ball to HPU.
Not sure what to make of HPU. They only beat McMurry by 6 in McMurry's season opener. I really wonder if McMurry is much stronger under Coach Neal (and potentially can finish 5-4).
one of my friends (throwing coach for the track team) sttod in HEB and counted the 5 he was sure McM could win, so 5-4 might be right, Ralph. Hope it is. I want Neal to have all the success!

Wonder who will be the 3rd string QB for the Cru this week?  The only other QB on the roster currently is Jackson Tingler out of Round Rock (Who has also been listed as a WR at times this season).  I don't know that he has made a trip to an away game yet though.  Hopefully the stream quality is decent.  It only looks like there will be a UMHB stream though.

Probably would depend on the situation, if we truly needed a QB and Kyle and Ryan were hurt I would assume we would probably revert to Tommy in the near term. Other than that I would bet it would be Tingler.

Cru are playing mighty sloppy today...
