Snip....

there is no metric or eye test that would place UMHB's schedule above Mount's, or anywhere close to it.  I get that it sucks for you, but that's what happens when you have a garbage OOC and play in a very, very top heavy conference.  Mount's going to be in a similar boat next year with Defiance as the lone OOC.  Raiders fans need a great OAC OOC record next year or we're looking at UMHB levels of SOS

No metric or eye test?  So, whatever the AFCA voters and D3Football voters saw all season to rank UMHB ahead of Mount don't count?  Or how about the ONLY game that UMHB struggled in was a 6 point game against a regionally ranked 9-1 (8-1 D3/Conference schedule) in a #2 vs #7 matchup.  Mount?  A 7 point game against the powerhouse 4-6 (3-6 conference) Ohio Northern team.

There are two :D.  I mean, we're all homers for our teams...

I guess reading comprehension might not be a thing in Texas.  But you seem to disregard that I was discussing UMHB's schedule vs Mount's schedule, not the meaningless D3 polls. Let's try this instead: the reason that UMHB is a two seed is, the stats say "y'all ain't played nobody"
I'm actually fine with the 2 seed, but both teams played 5 teams below .500 on the season. In the OAC ALL of them were in conference. 4 in Conference + Simpson for UMHB. Simpson is really the killer, but if I remember right we played Simpon, because Albright bailed on the home and home after UMHB went to Albright and you take what you get when you're scheduling years out. Teams with a chance at pool c considerations have a business decision to make, and most don't want to spend the money to come to texas to put playoff hopes at risk.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I'll give it to HSU and UMHB that they would play anybody if they could. Mt. Union the same thing, I suppose, but with only one OOC game it's not that desirable to get out to Oregon.   ;)

agreed maybe what should happen is break up the conference into 2 5 team divisions you play your division + 3 from the other division and a conference final the last week of the season. You have room for 2 OOC games.

The Crusaders did indeed have a home and home agreement with Albright, which they fulfilled in 2018 (Cru 91-7 at Albright) and 2019 (Cru 56-15 in Belton).  The home and home agreement with Simpson was to have been the Cru in Iowa in 2020 (cancelled) and Simpson in Belton (Cru 84-6).  To fulfill the deal we will travel to Simpson in 2022.  As you might imagine, it's pretty difficult to find opponents.

OOC games seem hard to come by in DIII, even with as many teams as there are.  We had to fill a hole this season and ended up traveling to NAIA Arkansas Baptist, just to get to 10 games.  For local OOC games for us, it will be a USA South team.  For OOC games, I'm assuming the schools are responsible for travel cost, which makes it difficult for some to afford to get their teams all over the country.  I would think most schools want to bus for cost, and for us in the southeast means you are pretty much stuck playing the same teams over and over again.  Hard to get variety in your schedule.

This is why losing Wesley stinks so bad. They were willing to do the travel, were more than a quality opponent, and were always looking for games. But yeah, teams are limited with so many conferences at 10 teams. Even if you are in a D3 rich area, like the ODAC, you just can't find those extra games because everyone else is busy with their conference schedule. And it does cost a fortune to move around a football team with 2 buses or a 100 seat plane. At least with a swim team you can do a dual meet, or soccer/baseball can do 2 games in 2 days and make the expense more worthwhile. With football it's a huge team, 1 game, 1 giant expense.

Just curious...  Rufus Cormier was one of the first Black players in the old Southwest Conference as a defensive player at SMU.  Is Kenneth Cormier kin to him?

tigerguy

Great defensive battle thus far - both defenses have shown up and performed as advertised. Trinity is having a decent amount of success in the air but their inability to get anything done on the ground is killing most of their drives. UMHB's D-line is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing which team is able to make the better adjustments at half. UHMB defense needs to stop allowing us to get the short passes across the middle.

Conservative playoff offense is back for another season with UMHB!  No idea why they do that.

Great game UMHB and TUTX.

I am happy for Texas. TUTX is competitive again and should spark some interest in the state.

It was a 1-possession game until the 59th moment.

Couple of awesome defenses showed out today. The down rulings on some turnovers hurt my Tigers. They had a lot of momentum and had to go back to the well. UMHB missed a couple of FGs. Was a windy day.

Looking back I'm Surprised either team scored as manny points as they did. Both Defensive boxes are top 3 caliber. Take away the redo 4th down TD run and it's a single digit ball game.

Proud of Trinity. They will be back. Lots of youth and depth lined up today.  :o

Completely agree.  Well done to TU!
