Anyone have any idea what the Cru's football schedule is going to look like next season?  I saw they had 2 open dates.  Also, how many conference games are they going to have now with the departure of 2 schools I believe?
I've been anxiously awaiting the schedule as well (I like to plan way ahead  :D). I've seen UMHB schedules released as early as February and as late as June, so I have no idea when it will be out. My guess would be later than usual since they are trying to find non-conference games to replace Belhaven, which is always a challenge for Texas schools. Some of the posters with connections in the program might have a better idea.

I'd say on the later end...hard to schedule other D3s, even for home and home type deals, and a NAIA or D2 won't help you. Could UMHB win? Sure. But unless it is against a ranked D2 or FCS school it probably wouldn't factor in...would say that would likely be a last resort to schedule outside of D3. No matter how good the opponent is, it won't ever be more than secondary criteria for the NCAA selection committee. Haven't heard anything on the record or confirmed about who might be on the non-conference schedule. Appears Week 1 is already filled though.

Part of me wants to see the Crusaders schedule a D2 team like Angelo State or UTPB, but I'm sure that would have to be a road game and I'm sure UMHB is hoping for a 5th game in Belton.

If UMHB would just go ahead and move to DII, which is probably where y'all need to be anyway, you might not have this scheduling issue.....   ;D

Mostly I just don't want to have to worry about going through y'all, every year, in every sport.

Honestly, crazy as it sounds, I could see a D3 to D1 move more than D3 to D2...for varying reasons...D2 is much smaller in the number of teams, and I full believe if competing is the issue, UMHB could go toe-to-toe with most of the teams in the Southland Conference (which would probably be the best regional conference for them to join). St. Thomas (MN) did it well this year. But I certainly would hate to see a move like that. There's something special about the D3 community.

I agree with the move the D1 versus D2. If you are going to the next level or two, why not compare yourself to D-1s such as Dallas Baptist (D-1 in baseball), Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian and Oral Roberts (no football)?

I always lamented the change in scholarship/grant-in-aid money that was diverted from general students who might play an intercollegiate sport at the D3 level to the Athletic Scholarship at D2 and D1. So, I prefer D3.

Also, I can see the rise of "professional athletes" in college changing the game irrevocably, and for the worse.

If I remember correctly, you cannot jump from D-3 to D1. St Thomas was given a special case because they were voted out of the MIAC.

Now if UMHB was given the same treatment...

BSCpanthers

BSC dropped from D1 to D3 when we started football.  No way would have been able to compete at D1 with only 1300 students.

Maybe UMHB could get a waiver if the Southland needed them to keep surviving.  Let's face it, the NCAA isn't in a position to tell anyone "No", just threaten to sue them and they will back down.

I bet that with such recent precedent that UMHB, if they were interested, could appeal for similar treatment even without being kicked out of the conference.  But it's a huge cost for a school with a relatively small endowment (not a NACUBO participant; numbers I see elsewhere online put it a little under $100M) and which won't come close to paying for itself for at least years.  Sure, if you can get the McLane family or other big donors behind it, but that's what it would take.

Unfair playoff pairings aside, I like D3 and I hope UMHB stays there, but I would like to see them get an opportunity to hang some D2 pelts on the wall at some point in the future.  ;D

So, I'm bored since we don't have any football to watch and recruiting has sort of tapered off.  Would anyone have interest in doing a fan voted on All-time list of Cru Football players by position?  I mean, some positions are stacked (I'm looking at you LB); but it might be fun to do a voted on 2-deep.  I'll admit, I only really started following closely in 2015 or so...

This would be a lot of fun, maybe more so on Twitter where the CFAA could get involved. you need far more than 2 slots for running back/fullback. Before we started flinging it around ca. 2012-2013 there was a steady supply of stud RBs (not that the rend hasn't continued)
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Yeah, I vaguely remember several stud RB's from back in the day.  I'll look into trying to figure something out on twitter and such :D

Feel like I remember Cru Athletics did some polls on the best offensive and defensive players on social media during the fall when they didn't get to play. Next season is the 25th season in school history, it would be cool for their to be all 25th team or something.

I got into an heated discussion with some VIP surrounding Salisbury about you guys regarding your change from I form to actually being committed to having a passing attack and your growth offensively. My point was that, yes you can dominate 90 to 95% of DIII being one-dimensional and looks great against those teams, but when it gets to the creme de la creme of DIII, you better be able to do the thing that makes you uncomfortable reasonably or you'd be in for a rude awakening or in our case, same ole, same ole against Top 15 teams.

That's not far off...they have dominated in football, but volleyball, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's soccer were all top 2 in conference this past year ...not to mention men's and women's golf and softball are all frontrunners for an ASC title this spring. Baseball is getting there. And with Pool Cs now decreasing...it could potential force ASC presidents to come to a similar decision the MIAC presidents came to...not saying that will happen but it is always a possibility
