Does an ASC team jump ship and join the SCAC?  Would Hardin Simmons or ETBU leave the ASC to not have to play UMHB in conference?  Would McMurry or HPU consider it. Probably not but if football rules the world in Texas they might consider it.

Both HSU and ETBU are strong in women's basketball so they would be competitive in the SCAC.  ETBU is strong in softball and with Belhaven leaving the ASC they would have no other competition plus TLU is dominant in softball so that would not be a good move.
Not sure what HPU is good in so not sure about them.  McMurry is dominate in track, not sure about other sports.

It would be cruel irony if HSU left the ASC but somehow UMHB remained D3 which would remove all reasons for the the NCAA to not have us face each other in the first round of the playoffs.

TLU and Schreiner left the ASC for a reason. The others were not invited to the SCAC. I can speculate the reason, but I do not think that things have changed in the last 6-7 years.

I expect the football AQ to drop to 6, especially from pressure from conferences in the northeast.

Thanks, Ron.

Ralph, I think that if either McM or HSU expressed an interest, the SCAC would seriously consider and likely invite them (and I would not be surprised if they were both contacted when the SAA split occurred).   The SCAC of 202x is not the SCAC of 2010.

Yea I thought of that; IF HSU left the conference it would almost guarantee a first round game with UMHB.  (the NCAA would love that as not much travel $$ spent).  I guess if you stay in the ASC at least you get a home game with UMHB every other year.

McMurry was D-2 reclassifying from 2012-13 to 2014-15.

Still bored with no movement on schedules.  Here is a spreadsheet with composites on it:

I am working through this process one page at a time on the website. I'm up through Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and keep plugging away at it.

If you go here, this will take you to the newest version of the team's page, whether that's 2022 or 2021.

Interesting note from over on the Non-Conference Opponents board:

Did hear that Muhlenberg will be opening 2022 at Mary Hardin Baylor this year.

Etchglow,
Are you surprised?

A little.  First time in 5 years that we will have played a decent team in non-conference.  Although, it does have me a little nervous with all the coaching changes coming.

Ralph Turner

This is an excellent strategic move by Muhlenberg.
A win over UMHB and an undefeated season, then the Mules make the case for 4 home games in the playoffs.
Playing UMHB close will also be a good "Result" versus a Regionally Ranked Opponent.

So here is what I think the UMHB schedule will look like:
1 Mulenberg
2 To be determined
3  Southwestern
4  Harden Simmons
5  Austin College
6 ETBU
7 TLU
8 Sul Ross
9 Bye
10 Howard Payne
11 McMurry

No doubt Mulenberg week 1 out of the chute is a challenge. New system on offense and some key losses on defense for UMHB make this an interesting start to the Harmon era. But the new coaches are top notch. The offense actually has a chance of being better than last year. To me the real question is whether they can adequately replace some true studs on defense. I hope they have found a decent opponent for week two.
