Now don't get me wrong it is certainly conceivable that HSU wins that game. The game is at HSU and the teams were extremely competitive in last years game. But to rank HSU over UMHB after the run to the ship is in my opinion a stretch.

I definitely don't think it inconceivable since we nearly lost last season, but it hasn't happened in recent years, even the Spring 21 championship was at their place and we won. I was on the sideline for last fall's game. The emotion and intensity was severely lacking in the first half. The second half was a complete turn around.

The leaders coming back have played two big games against HSU in the last two seasons. I expect they will get up and get ready, especially with the possibility of having one loss going into conference play (UWW).

We will find out soon enough. I'm ready for them to release the roster.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

It could be as simple as they looked at UMHB having a new head coach, and going to Abilene, and figure that is worth flipping the closest game of UMHB's season last year. It seems a bold call to me too, but I could see those factors being enough to step out on a ledge pre-season.

The first half of the Hardin-Simmons game is probably the flattest and most uninspired football I've ever seen the Cru play.  But the second half was an amazing turnaround.  Now if they would just release a replay for us to watch lol...

If that is as far as their analysis went then that is well, its pathetic. The most committed Hardin Simmons alum wouldn't agree with the Cowboys being predicted to win the ASC this year. Not saying it can't happen, anything can happen on the field of course. But that is comical, honestly sad that we know more about our own conference than a magazine dedicated to covering TEXAS FOOTBALL. Oh well, it doesn't bother me too much but I do think it's less of a hot take and more just poorly informed coverage, which again should not happen coming from DCTF. Looking forward to the game though!

Did Ol' Pete take the keys to the Toyota with him when he left?  UMHB will smoke HSU per usual

Ehh, I kind of ignore it.  Us DIII fans are a miniscule subset so I can excuse a few mistakes.

So it gave us something to talk about for a day or 2. I truly believe this UMHB team will exceed expectations and that's a high bar. I've never seen a team as deep on the o - line and skill positions as this one. Can't wait!

Well, if we need some more talking points:

I get we are D3, but come on, it doesn't take a lot of effort to research these things. To only have one person from the national champions is a slap in the face.

What does anyone know about this kid from HPU they named AA at QB, Landon McKinney?  I see he put up big numbers against the scrubs and decent numbers against everyone else not named UMHB or HSU - 32 TDs, 9 INTs (5 by HSU!), nearly 3000 yards completing about 60% of his passes.

That's about all I know.  Think he is a Junior this year.  I know he was electric against ETBU.  He wasn't great against Southwestern either.  It'll be interesting to see how well he does without Jake Parker.

Yes...without Parker, HPU is definitely going to struggle a bit in the passing game. HPU's offensive system fits McKinney really well because he is a solid passer and has quite an arm. If you remember, HPU went up 14-0 on UMHB in Belton last season before the Cru defense found its footing. In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, HPU scored a TD within its first 3 or 4 plays from scrimmage in that game. But his main target on most plays was Parker, and without him, I'd expect the passing numbers to drop a bit. From where I stand, I think it'll be UMHB and HPU as the ASC's top 2 passing teams (because of the WRs unit of the Cru and both teams having very reliable QBs) and HPU does have 3 senior WRs, so that should help things too. Hunter Cheek could really have a breakout year for HPU as a receiver.

Thanks for the insights.  Parker was 25 last year?  Wow.   Signed a contract with a German professional team, though he hasn't caught a pass over there yet.
