Thanks for the insights.  Parker was 25 last year?  Wow.   Signed a contract with a German professional team, though he hasn't caught a pass over there yet.

He is doing pretty well I think.  9 receptions for 175 yards and 3 touchdowns.  3 Punt returns for 45 yards.

UMHB had some old dudes on the roster last year lol :D.  Keith Gipson graduated HS in 2013, Aaron Sims in 2015, and Adam Dobbins turned 27 in December after the national championship lol.

Well, if we need some more talking points:

https://collegefootballamericapr.com/2022/07/28/ethan-greenfield-north-central-college-football-america-preseason-team/

I get we are D3, but come on, it doesn't take a lot of effort to research these things. To only have one person from the national champions is a slap in the face.

At a glance, I see a number of those guys are not back this year.

What does anyone know about this kid from HPU they named AA at QB, Landon McKinney?  I see he put up big numbers against the scrubs and decent numbers against everyone else not named UMHB or HSU - 32 TDs, 9 INTs (5 by HSU!), nearly 3000 yards completing about 60% of his passes.

That's about all I know.  Think he is a Junior this year.  I know he was electric against ETBU.  He wasn't great against Southwestern either.  It'll be interesting to see how well he does without Jake Parker.

Yes...without Parker, HPU is definitely going to struggle a bit in the passing game. HPU's offensive system fits McKinney really well because he is a solid passer and has quite an arm. If you remember, HPU went up 14-0 on UMHB in Belton last season before the Cru defense found its footing. In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, HPU scored a TD within its first 3 or 4 plays from scrimmage in that game. But his main target on most plays was Parker, and without him, I'd expect the passing numbers to drop a bit. From where I stand, I think it'll be UMHB and HPU as the ASC's top 2 passing teams (because of the WRs unit of the Cru and both teams having very reliable QBs) and HPU does have 3 senior WRs, so that should help things too. Hunter Cheek could really have a breakout year for HPU as a receiver.

This is correct in that they scored very early...it was on a flea flicker.  Emptied the chamber quite early.

Yeah, looking at it it was a 70 yard TD on first pass, 6 yard rush, 12 yard rush, incomplete pass, and then a 35 yard touchdown.  Didn't score the rest of the game.  Not sure if Landon got hurt or what (I can't remember, but his next 6 passes were incomplete with a sack then didn't play the rest of the game.

Yep, he took a big shot on their 3rd or 4th drive of the game...at that point, I think HPU was trying to keep him healthy for the season finale...they'd already lost to HSU too, and at that point, it was clear they would not be making the postseason. He was impressive early on though and definitely has some passing talent.

For anyone interested in more insight into the Dave Campbell's ranking situation, Corey Hogue, the man who made the ranking was on their latest podcast.

I am also happy to say they will said in the podcast they will be increasing the amount of non FBS coverage they do on that podcast, who knows how good it will be but I can tell you that Corey does pay attention to the smaller schools of Texas and will be in Abilene for the UMHB/HSU game.

If you want to skip past all the non-D3 stuff, the discussion of the ASC starts around the 39:30 mark.

Edit:  but after about a minute or two they quit talking D3.   Quickly talk about Trinity around 44:30.

Supposed to be a 1 1/2 hour small college preview podcast coming out soon (not just D3) and a shorter weekly small college podcast.

OK. I just look at some of the choices and wonder -- who is going to throw to the Central receiver? And he isn't the best returning receiver -- Logan Mont is. Mont was injured in Week 2 or so and is back. And neither of those guys is better than Wayne Ruby. Yusuf Aladinov did great stepping up for Del Val last year after Michael Nobile was hurt, but Nobile is back. Their No. 1 punter may not even be the No. 1 punter on his team when the season starts. One of those linemen is not a returning starter, according to the preseason info we got from his school. And then, yes, choosing not even the best ASC returning quarterback as the No. 1?

Just my thoughts. Our team will be out on Monday.

Thanks for the thoughts, Pat. Hope the vacay was all the pictures on FB made it out to be.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Pat Coleman

Gosh -- thanks, Toby. It sure was a great vacation, and it was definitely needed. I have never once taken a two-week vacation until this year!

Hopefully we will see a return to 2018 form for him. It appears the newcomers will scrimmage the team from monterrey the 26th at 6 and the returners on the 27th.

I went to the FAQ page.

https://www.d3football.com/interactive/faq/playoffs  Question #9

The ASC is 54-29 (.651) in post-season play, since 1999.
However I count 7 post-season games in which the ASC played itself (UMHB versus HSU, McM or LaCollege)

Out of conference, that makes our record 47-22 (.681). We have the 3rd best record among the conferences, behind the OAC (think Mount Union) and the WIAC (with its team du jour). I did not look for intra-conference games in those conferences.
