Does anybody know how we can watch any umhb conference games from last season? In particular howard payne and Birmingham southern?

A number of schools intentionally do not archive their games, and UMHB is one of them. Also, an NCAA playoff game like the one against Birmingham-Southern is not supposed to be archived at all, but enforcement on that has been super lax in recent years.

What Pat Said, you can find the Audio for the Howard Payne game archived on their website but that is about it.  4-5 pages back I posted a list of the available archived footage.

i would add, that brawl at the half vs hpu is not likely to see the light of day. was a bad look; espescially for Howard Payne
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Haha it didn't see the light of day on the broadcast at the time. I couldn't be there in person so I watched online, once KJ got pushed they immediately went to the UMHB logo and didn't come back until after halftime. Have to say I was a little annoyed, I understand they didn't want to show the fight but that seemed to stop fairly quickly and I was dying to see what on Earth was going on.

I had forgotten about that. It was pretty spicy in person. I recall a few Twitter videos of it at the time but I don't recall who posted them...

So, since I keep hearing that HSU has a ton of returning starters and their roster is up.  I went and looked.  Here's what I found:

  • HSU had 36 people start a game for them last year.
  • 24 of the 36 starters are returning
  • Only 15 of those 24 started more than 4 games last year.

Now if we want to break it down by position:

  • All 4 of the 5 returning offensive linemen started more than 5 games
  • 4 of the 5 returning DB's started at least 5 games, but they lost two of the 7 that started last year
  • 2 of the 4 returning WR's have started at least 5 games, but they lost two WR's that started 5 games each
  • They are returning 3 of 4 linebackers who all started more than 5 games
  • They are only 3 of 6 DL's from last year and only 1 of them has started more than 5 games
  • All 3 RB's that started games last year are returning, but only 1 has more than 5 starts
  • They are returning 1 of two starting TE's, and he has only started 1 game
  • Obviously, they don't have a starting QB returned

Check your email again.  This was from last year's proposals (I posted the same thing on the future of division iii board before someone else told me it was old).   The D3 Playbook folks (and it is a great service, I don't know where he gets all his info, or rather has the time to keep track of all of it) sent out a correction shortly thereafter.
Thanks.
I am not sure why I did not see that later. I will delete the above.

I think all of that experience coming back should give HSU all the confidence in the world to think they can beat UMHB because clearly the last few years they have been just a handful of plays away from doing just that.

With that said, I think HSU's season is in the hands of Gaylon Glynn who seems to have the inside track at getting the starting job at QB. While he was the backup last year and was their wildcat guy, he just doesn't have a ton of reps so its impossible to really know how good HSU is going to be this year.

In my opinion college football is won and lost by coaching and QBs. I am very anxious to see how the loss of Coach Pete will be felt in the short and long term but we aren't exactly starting from scratch with Harmon, Johnson and Padron.

Without seeing UMHB's roster for the year I went ahead and did the same thing with knowing who graduated and some social media posts on who is/isn't back.

  • UMHB had 34 people start a game for them last year.
  • 20 of the 34 starters are returning
  • Only 15 of those 20 started more than 4 games last year.

Obviously, the defense was hit harder than any other unit, but I'm not quite as sure as the stats say Tommy Bowden didn't start any games, but I could've sworn he started at least a couple of playoff games at safety.  Of course, we lost some really big name players.

Per a story posted on D3Playbook, Lyon College will be joining the SLIAC next season.  As the conference doesn't sponsor football, they'll still be looking for a conference to affiliate with for that sport so the ASC (or possibly SAA) might still be in play.

The geographic footprint of the SLIAC is blossoming; between the addition of Lyon (next season) and MUW (this season) schools will be located in MS, AR, MO, IL, and KY.

Have to think a decision about them and Centenary will be announced soonish

Side note, I will also recommend signing up for the D3Playbook that has been mentioned a couple times now, has a lot of good national D3 stuff.

BSCpanthers

Isn't it the SCAC and new CCS that are both to having enough for football?  Could Lyon College go to either of those and one of them then sponsor football?

Pat Coleman

Three CCS schools sponsor football, who align with the five remaining in the USAC to retain the USAC's automatic bid.

I believe that Lyon will join its SLIAC conference members and go with the UMAC, which will give the UMAC 8 teams.
