Was chatting with a former student who is a Fr at ETBU last night. He's QB5 on the depth chart so I asked if they would field a JV squad. Nope. Don't know how many they have in , but if you're 5 deep at QB I bet you have enough to field a JV squad. I wonder why they don't since several in conference do.
Whom do you think that they would play? Everyone is more than 150 miles away.

LaCollege 158 miles.
Belhaven 256
UMHB 240.

First a celebratory statement, WE HAVE A ROSTER FOR UMHB! https://cruathletics.com/sports/football/roster

With that said, I would imagine there is a fine line of wanting to let the 5th string freshmen play somewhere and the potential need for bodies on Saturdays. In looking at ETBUs roster they only have 5 QBs to go along with a 131 man roster. I don't know the rules about players playing a JV game on Monday and then if there is a rash of injuries/other situations that could require a certain player to be in uniform on Saturday but I can't think that is allowed often. UMHB and HSU both carry over 200 players so they can carry 5th string guys at every potential position and still have a big enough roster to play JV games.

Also for those who want to watch the scrimmage from Saturday, it can be found at https://www.facebook.com/tercercuarto.

And lastly for those interested in the ASC Pickems, the games will be posted TODAY.

GAMEWEEK!!!!

GAMEWEEK!!!!

Yay for roster!  Cleared up some confusion because I could've sworn the announcer said the punter was Brandon Cunningham but it was Andrew lol...

And wow, that is a surprisingly good stream considering it was a dude live streaming to facebook on an iphone in section 204 :D

Yes, great to have the roster out. Definitely a few surprises and some transfers I did not know about until the roster came out this morning. I put the link to the article on True To The Cru with an overview of it. Also, Harmon did a press conference this morning. Plenty of interesting notes from that...more to come in an article this evening. Glad that it is finally game week!

Starting at Punter for UMHB, continuing a tradition of All-Americans that also punt....KYLE KING, aka QB1! That opens ip the punting game
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

That definitely has the opportunity to create a LOT of confusion.  It was interesting and good to hear him say that Coach Harmon is more strict than Pete was :o

Does UMHB need confusion???  Seems like an unnecessary risk for a team that should be able to line up and win against 99% of DIII with no trouble.  Why risk QB1 to punt, out of the 199 other guys y'all have, no one else can punt the ball???

In the article True to the Cru posted Coach Harmon is quoted as saying that there is a freshman that he believes will take over eventually but he is just not ready yet. While there is risk at exposing King to extra plays, good or bad UMHB places high importance on special teams and especially with our first two games the last thing Harmon wants is to worry about a freshmen punter. Seems important to note as a freshmen at Howard Payne King average 40 yards per punt with 6 of his 37 going for over 50 yards.

Harmon also said he has seen King punt one 70 yds in the air 90 with the bounce.
Another move of interest is Jerry Cephus to WR. He was the JV QB last year and is a good QB. Might see some more of those WR passes, but I bet Cephus' passes look a little different than KJs

A quick kick by the QB in the shotgun can also change field position in a hurry.

As McMurry used very successfully back in 2011, you never knew if they were going to punt or go for it on 4th down.

Ron Boerger

I remember this.  That dude was all kinds of dangerous.

Jake Mullin was that McMurry QB. I remember that UMHB regular season game. The game was postponed for a 54 minute lightning delay in the 2nd quarter. UMHB went up 28-7 and McM came roaring back. UMHB intercepted the 2-pt PAT late in the 4th quarter to win 28-27.

Mullin punted 21 times that year for a 46 yard average. Ten went inside the 20 yd line. Nine went 50+ yards; he had a long of 70 yards plus 2 touchbacks.

Hal Mumme always went for the win!

Javicz Jones intercepted that pass and Hal Mumme refused to shake hands after the game.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!
