In a fortuitous turn of events, I was already flying into Austin Saturday night for work. I moved my flight up to Friday night. Trying to decide if I drive up to Benton late Friday or early Saturday. Open to any and all suggestions on places to stay and eat while I'm down your way. Looking forward to seeing the stadium in person after merely driving past on a work trip down to Waco/Austin earlier this fall.

Depending on where you stay, it is only a 1h or so drive up to Belton. There are about a million amazing places to eat in the Austin area so that really just depends on what kind of food you're interested in lol. Our favorites are The French Quarter Grill in North Austin and 600 degree pizza/slapbox pizza in Georgetown/round rock. There are too many really good bbq joints in tbe Austin area to name them all lol. (not Rudy's though)

As far as Belton itself, miller's and schoepfs are excellent bbq, and Jaliscos is my favorite Mexican food.

Austin to Belton is "one continuous city". Find the lodging accommodations that are most convenient.

Etchglow is right about BBQ and TexMex.
If you have been to Austin frequently, then you are basically familiar with Texas cuisine.

I won't be able to come, but I encourage you to reach out to UMHB fans who are going. They are wonderful hosts.

Bethel fans highlight the stats at the top of the list in fewest penalties, fewest interceptions and fewest fumbles. The Royals just don't beat themselves.
I am glad that the CRU are catching Jaran Roste. That will be a true test.

We have been pretty provincial down here for the last 7 weeks on the playoffs, that the Texas Sub-Bracket sends one team to the Stagg and the other 30 teams fight it out.

I am really anticipating this one. This has been a brutal bracket. HSU Vs Trinity, Trinity Vs UMHB, UMHB vs Bethel with the winner getting to catch NCC to get to the Stagg.

Wartburg and Aurora are the Cinderella's this year.

For Lazindex, NCC vs Ithaca is a 2-possession game and Bornpwerindex has it a 3-possession margin for NCC.

Thanks for the Belton recs. Any UMHB posters feel free to shoot me a message. Always fun to meet people from the boards in person.

If you like BBQ, don't leave Belton without visiting Miller's Smokehouse downtown. I like Schoepf's BBQ as well, a bit older and more traditional, though more expensive; they also sometimes have live music. If you're in North Austin, a side trip to Louie Mueller Barbeque in Taylor is worth the extra few minutes. For super casual and if the weather is good, my daughter took me to Scores Pizza and Wings in downtown Belton which was fun, very busy with covered outside seating; the wings were outstanding. There are several other good restaurants in old downtown. The Dead Fish Grill on the southeast end of Lake Belton has one of the best deck views of any lake I've been on (I'm a Minnesota boy and have seen many). My daughter swears by Fire Street Pizza a little west of Belton, but I've never been there personally.

We typically stay in either the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple or the Hampton Inn on I-35 which is only a few miles from campus. Friends have routinely stayed at a B&B right on the east edge of campus off Main Street (south of the railroad tracks) and recommend it, but I've never seen it advertised.

Unfortunately, Louie Mueller has gone downhill since Covid.  They lost everyone but the Owner and one other person.  It is still pretty good, but it isn't what it used to be...  It has gotten more expensive than Schoepfs too.

Just realized Coach Harmon was an assistant with my dad's friend Mel Tjeerdsma at NW Missouri State back in the day. Tjeerdsma is an all time great, had no idea there was a NWMS and UMHB connection like that, or that Harmon was an SDSU grad for that matter. Small world.

I'd like to have seen him when he was playing D1 level.

He didn't play at that level, so there was nothing to see. It's not like he played two years at Utah.

Who is this clean-cut All-American kid?

https://gophersports.com/sports/football/roster/jaran-roste/1233

Looks like his younger, nerdier little brother lol

Gonna be weird when the COVID generation is fully gone and we can only expect guys to be here 4, maybe 5 years haha

True, haha. So used to asking seniors the question now, "Are you planning to come back for a 5th season?" You almost forget that eligibility is only for four seasons.

I decided to create some spreads and totals for this weekends games, for fun!

Bethel @ UMHB (-3.5) over/under 61

Ithaca @ North Central (-16.5) over/under 54

Mount Union @ Delaware Valley (+9.5) over/under 57

Aurora @ Wartburg (+2.5) over/under 49

Probably would've made Aurora v Wartburg a tossup but Wartburg QB injury status is a big concern... Wartburg D is elite but will have to keep up to win that one & not sure if the starter will go or be 100%.
