Yeah, that's not gonna help, Amy Carlton is stepping down.

Does her departure scream "the future of the ASC is done for"?

The timing isn't optimal, but at the very least anyone coming in from outside will lose some time while they get the lay of the land and establish relationships.  Selecting someone who doesn't have to look up the school names on the website will help.

In an interesting coincidence the SAA commissioner is also retiring at the end of the school year.

I don't think this is a good sign. Maybe she was just ready to be done...but I don't know. Feels awfully odd that this happens now of all times when the future of the ASC is very unclear. The more I think about it, the more I think a merging of the ASC and SCAC (with the retaining of the SCAC as the league name) is in the very near future. I would not be opposed to that. I just wonder if the SCAC is willing to accept schools they previously considered not up to their academic level (obviously my words, not theirs, but that's been the impression I've generally gotten).

Or the SCAC picks up a bunch of schools, like CTX, UOZ, UTD, LeTU and goes to North and South Divisions.

More accurately, she was commissioner for 17 years. The last 3-5 years have been very hard on everyone. Not to disparage her accomplishments, this is a good time to pass the baton. Having been there (the ASC) for 21 years, lots of things have changed!

Some see danger; others see opportunity. I see opportunity.

IMHO, the SCAC's Dwayne Hanberry has been as excellent as a conference commissioner as there has been in D3.

Does Dwayne Hanberry move to the SAA? I need some insiders to pontificate.

He was offered the position when the SAA was created and made the much riskier move to stay (with the stipulation that the conference office wouldn't have to move).  I can't see him jumping now, but the landscape is so different than it was a decade ago, and with the position open it's certainly in the realm of possibility.

I think something along those lines is much more likely. UMHB and HSU, and to a bit of a lesser extent ETBU, are programs I've heard some schools wouldn't mind getting away from.

I imagine there's lots of phone calls and meetings going on about right now ...

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for those..

And to think PreD2, McM was competitive with the best in the ASC...

Curious for peoples thoughts, with the football championship being on Friday on ESPNU and the basketball championship being on CBS Sports, are we getting enough value to offset the lost capacity to watch it as most people do not have those channels? I cut the cord awhile back but before I did I had a decent package and it didn't even include CBS Sports.

I think it is a, damned if you don't, damned if you do situation.  I don't know of any other networks that will have national reach but are small enough to want to televise the D3 championships.  I would shudder to think how much it'd cost to get it on one of the more mainstream television channels... Maybe prime would be cool?  Lol.

You are probably right, I am not the biggest basketball fan so once UMHB was out I didn't pay much attention but when I tried to tune in late for the basketball championship I was surprised that even with all the stuff that I do pay for plus the ability to "borrow" from my parents decent cable package I didn't have access to it. Regarding football it also makes me wonder if we are going to be shifted to ESPNU/ESPN3 can we at least go back to Saturday day/night, that would seem to make it a bit easier to get to and be more in line with the typical calendar.

Pat Coleman

Generally the decision is between Friday at 7 and Saturday at 11 a.m.  Friday is seen as being the better option.

Saturday night is not one of the time slots on the table.
