UMHB is going to be a problem in D2 football, championship within 4-7 years

Do you know something we don't? I don't think a move to D2 is imminent for UMHB, especially because it seems that a SCAC-ASC merger is more likely than ever. I could be wrong, but that's my thinking. I don't think UMHB wants to leave D3.
I hope you're right about the SCAC-ASC merger. I'd prefer that UMHB stay in D3 too, and such a merger (for football at least) appears to be the only way that can happen unless they can convince a few NAIA schools to give up scholarships and move to D3.

What makes the most sense to me for Colorado College is for them to go D2 and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. I understand that they have scholarship ice hockey for men and soccer for women. I believe they could be competitive in their other sports, and the travel time might make the difference for the student-athletes.

The RMAC is almost entirely public schools.

Yeah, but would Colorado College want to stay in that merged conference?

If they want to stay D3, their choices are pretty limited.  They're already used to hopping on planes; from that perspective, the SAA isn't all that different than what they had in the old SCAC, but I can't see the SAA making an offer since that would add a second week of difficult remote travel for all sports (except football) due to the lack of any kind of travel partner.  Same for NWC and SCAIC; what do those conferences gain (other than a danged good school that isn't in any danger of closing up shop) by adding flights whenever they play in Colorado?

So that leaves, what, the C2C?  Sure, they want to get in that blender with CNU, not to mention trying to schedule a full season of games would be a disaster since the C2C doesn't have any kind of a regular season.

The only way an ASC-SCAC merger works is if it's limited to football, which doesn't impact CC in the slightest.  I can't see the ASC schools wanting to hop on planes on a regular basis, either.

On that note, I agree. I just think that  the ASC schools are going to do everything possible to stay D3. Now, I would totally get it if the SCAC wanted no part. Not to be biased (because to be honest, I am not that partial to UMHB) but you're essentially allowing your AQ to become UMHB or HSU which is going to majorly upset programs in your league who started football programs because it appeared a path to success was there (UST, Schreiner, Centenary).

And yes, I cannot see CC going to D2 or joining the C2C. In part because, as Pat said, the RMAC is really the only league they could join and that is basically all public schools.

We will see very soon. 2025-26 isn't that far away.

I am not a betting man but I think a full SCAC-ASC merger is what will happen.  As I have stated before, the number of schools for basketball, baseball, soccer, etc. is not ideal but is certainly workable.  In addition to this merger, I would not be surprised if the SAA picked up some more Texas schools to try to shore up their future numbers.  Anyways, it will be interesting to see this all play out.

Yes, but I had Colorado Christian and Regis in mind when I made the statement.
Men's Ice Hockey and Women's Soccer play schedules that are heavily weighted to public institutions.

Division I is heavily weighted to public institutions, so that makes sense.

Might be very interesting timing if HSU is able to complete there schedule by playing a LSC opponent.
A side article from this link...
https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2023/04/04/marcus-schulz?ref=related_thumb

From the article ...

"Ponder ISD on Tuesday announced the hiring of Humble head coach Marcus Schulz as the next head football coach at Ponder High School.

He replaces Kyle Cooper, who departed after two seasons to take over as athletic director and head coach at La Grange.

Schulz is a native of Sanger and played collegiately at nearby Austin College where he was a Division III All-American defensive back. He began his coaching career at Gainesville where he spent two seasons coaching in the secondary; he was part of a state runner-up squad in 2005."

-------------------------------------
His "All-American" accolades must have been by another voting service. I do not find his name on the D3football.com listing.

Ron Boerger

Only thing I found for him was an all-ASC (first team) award in 2001.  Then again there were lots of AA teams back then, HP sponsored one, there was AP Little All-America (which I didn't find him on), and there used to be some other d3football wannabe website that had hundreds of "all-America" recipients each season.

This very complete compilation of AA D3 teams at Cortland does not list anything for Mr. Schulz.  Maybe the author of the article confused "All-American Southwest Conference" with "All-American".

Looks like they swapped the Bye week and McMurry game for UMHB.  So bye is 9/30 and McMurry is 9/23.

Wasn't it always scheduled that way?

I know the first schedule had McMurry on 9/30.

Gotcha. Couldn't remember if 9/30 was the date discussed on here prior to the schedule released or if it was on that initial schedule from UMHB.

Speaking of schedule has anyone heard any movement on the HSU schedule?
