Man I really don't want to go D2 and at this point I just wish the SCAC would announce everyone they want and tell the rest of us, good luck.

It does feel like death by 1000 cuts right now for the ASC.

By 2024 this will leave only six schools in the ASC if nothing changes between now and then.

CTX --> SCAC in 2024
ETBU
HSU
HPU
LeTU
UMHB
McM -> SCAC in 2024
Ozarks -> SCAC in 2024
Sul Ross -> D2 in 2024
UT Dallas  (and when do they follow in UT-Tyler's footsteps and go D2?)

The reason everyone is bailing is that you have had total radio silence from the ASC front office ever since the Sul Ross move came into discussion.  I know there aren't a lot of optiions but when you're losing schools to conferences headquartered in Georgia without saying a word, it's not a good look.

Do you think that silence is there at the admin level? I know it stinks being a fan because we are the last to know but I would assume the school presidents and AD's are at least in the loop. With that said the lack of anything positive for the conference is not a good look, of course I doubt an outgoing commissioner is going to do much.

Lotta stakeholders in the ASC (like any conference) but the fact that you have two non-football schools leaving tells me admin of those schools is hearing/seeing something they don't like.   Fans, students, coaches, prospective students all need to hear something or they will assume the worst - though I guess few of those folks except the coaches and the handful of us here are really attuned to this.

I will be interested to see if Cory Hogue follows up on this latest development.

And what's interesting to me (not "interesting" I guess, but worth noting) is that unless schools like LETU and HPU find a landing spot, they're probably gonna be more out of luck than anyone else. I can't see either of them jumping up to D2, so unless they manage to get the SCAC to take them (or, again, the ASC pulls a rabbit out if its hat and gets some NAIA schools to jump), they're gonna be the ones left hanging out to dry since UMHB in particular, as well as possibly UTD, HSU, and ETBU, might be able to make the move to D2. Even if I don't expect that for each of them.

The two schools leaving today don't effect football so it's difficult to say they're running from UMHB.  As a matter of fact, it would be more likely to say running from UTD since they've won more conference titles as a whole than any other ASC schools recently.  Really curious to see what transpires.  Also curious as to why the SCAC is actively going after schools so far away from Georgia.  Will they move their HQ?

As I understand it, part of the deal when the SAA split off was that Commissioner Hanberry agreed to remain with the SCAC, rather than take the easy offer on the table to become the new conference's first commish, as long as the remaining schools agreed to let him remain in Georgia.  They did and it was a godsend for a conference that at the time was in worse shape than the ASC will be in 2024, even ignoring the fact that you had a seven- rather than six-participant requirement for AQs.

All the SCAC schools are currently in TX except one each in CO and LA.  Ozarks will be the first from Arkansas.

For those who may not have seen it, here's the d3sports take on yesterday's announcement from Pat Coleman.  It includes a link to the Youtube interview he had last month discussing the Texas D3 landscape that at the time required an obscure subscription to view.

Cory Hogue said he would be discussing the ASC situation during this week's edition of the Blitz, the weekly non-D1 football column he provides for texasfootball.com.  I don't think you need to be a subscriber - here is the link to last week's column if you want to check (but works for me in an incognito window).   These generally come out Wednesday.

The other problem for the ASC is that the Commissioner's husband died recently and she is retiring.
There is a void at the top that the president's have not filled.

The job that Dwayne Hanberry has done since the SAA walked out the door causes me to vote him the D-3 Commissioner of the 21st Century. If he wants to stay in Georgia to do this job, that is fine with me, and apparently the SCAC is happy with it, too.

So did she retire or was she fired?  I've seen stuff saying both ways.  It sounded like retirement to me but I'm just over here in Hutto with no connection to anyone besides these boards....

Get a life, troll. Do you ever contribute anything of value to a conversation?

Cory Hogue's take on the ASC situation is up in the latest texasfootball.com Blitz.

What are the DEI concerns Corey is writing about? What schools are leaving a conference because of these things?

Thanks for the link. Just more speculation. The only new thing I saw was the speculation that TLU and Schreiner might consider a move to the ASC (I don't believe that). At some point, the conference leadership needs to voice their expectations. Maybe the individual schools have an idea of where it's all headed but no communications have been made? I wonder how this uncertainty impacts recruiting, if at all.

I don't believe it for a second either, especially when it comes to Schreiner. I suppose I could see TLU possibly making the jump, but I highly doubt that one, too. I know the SCAC ADs meeting is coming up soon, wonder what might come out of that.

There is (or at least was at one point) a pretty vocal group of LGBTQIA folks who hated and badmouthed UMHB at every corner.  But, isn't that supposed to be expected from a Christian university?
