I'm more interested than maybe ever to listen to coach Harmon and try to get a feel for what the heck is going on on tonight's coaches show. Had to go grocery shopping and totally missed the live show, will there be a way to listen back on playback?

Not sure. If you follow True to the Cru, his rundown from the press conference today pretty much mirrors what was discussed in the radio show.

Items of Note:

Isaac Phe will start this week. I felt he should have had the opportunity in the scrimmage to play and he did not get a chance. Thus, he was not prepared for game speed against UWRF.

Harmon did not mention anything about the injuries to the other two QBs.

Harmon stated that a discussion was had with the team about any confidence lost in the coaches and the players were remaining positive. This seems like a strange comment.

Finally, he stated that a refocus on endurance will be had this week. I am surprised by this. I thought our guys would flourish in the cooler weather.

I'm looking forward to a refocus this week. I plan on making the trip to SA. Go Cru.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Pat Coleman

I thought we were told that they knew the colder weather bit in Wisconsin was a joke.

It was not really cooler up here this weekend, other than in the way that 98 is cooler than 108.

As Pat said, I think the team knew the weather wouldn't be more than a few degrees cooler there than it was down here. Having been on the sidelines for a portion of that game, I can say the weather was anything but cool. In fact, they had to take a few extended breaks because of a heat advisory in the area. The endurance/conditioning stemmed more from the up-tempo style of the UWRF offense (as it relates to UMHB's defense). The short offensive possessions also didn't give them much time to rest and catch their breath.

Harmon's comment about the confidence between coaches/players stemmed more from the fact that a loss like that has the potential to divide a team (in my opinion). As he stated, that was not the case from either side, and both the players and coaches are committed to each other and pursuing success this season. He mentioned that same thing (almost word-for-word) in the radio show tonight. To me, it sounded more like a way to reiterate that this team is sticking together internally than anything else.

I thought UWRF definitely had the advantage going quick tempo against UMHB. It was a good plan for UWRF and they executed very well (which can be tough) with a good QB. I can't fully recall, but didn't North Central also do quick tempo vs. UMHB in the playoffs? Oddly similar results.

Centenary has a great team, to be honest. They beat Millsaps and fell by 7 to ETBU previously. And Millsaps and ETBU, to my knowledge, had varsity players out there. Louisiana has a lot of talent and not nearly enough college programs for decent HS players to continue their football careers at. Centenary is the type of program that could be contending for a SCAC title within 5 years. They've got the right coaches, and buy-in from the administration.

JV Cru against a program with two years of recruiting, I believe, and two games under their belt, as Riley pointed out.

We don't know nearly enough about who suited up for each side to draw any conclusions from this, really.

a D3 elite's JV probably shouldn't lose a game to a bunch of kids waiting to play actual NCAA football in a year...."great team"...lol

Pat Coleman

Probably right, but not everyone is Mount Union with their apparently unbeaten JV teams.

haha.  UMHB is in its own class, no reason to bring up Mount.  Probably the second worst week ever for UMHB as a football program

I really think that you brought up Mount by showing up here to gloat.

I don't know what to make of a JV game but the varsity game result is enough to gloat about.

I wasn't gloating about UMHB getting absolutely humbled in week 1, never once brought up that embarrassing effort by the boys in Belton.  You're reading too much into it Pat.

A D3 elite losing a JV game is cause for alarm, the "great team" quote was about Centerary

You do realize that umhb played a different quarterback every quarter right? It isn't about winning on their jv although that's nice. It's about getting the kids experience, maturity and developing them as players.

Exactly. There's a reason why it's a developmental team. These are 18-19 year olds getting their first taste of the college level. I honestly can't believe so many people are actually reading this much into this game. And it's probably just because Centenary tweeted about it. It's crazy that one JV game is going to be deemed indicative (by some) of the health of UMHB's program. I'm saying that from the perspective of someone looking at this from an unbiased point of view. Centenary is a very tough, though young, football team right now.

Crubacker

Also, not knowing the status of the 2 injured QB's from the varsity--------it probably helped getting a look at some of the JV QB's in case they need a backup or 2 the rest of the way.  Also, some extra linemen--------it appeared that #59 was injured in the RF game.
