TLU says goodbye a year early ...

https://www.texasfootball.com/article/2023/11/21/texas-lutheran-football-to-join-the-scac-for-the-2024-season

I think this basically forces the ASC to run a double round robin w/championship as then the 4 teams would only need 12 total non-conference games.  That is pretty similar to the number that the SCAC will need with 10.  It'll be interesting to see what happens to any scheduling agreements that might be in play...

The ASC will need 16.  In a four-team double round-robin you only have six conference games.   A lot harder for four teams to find four non-conference games than for five teams to find two each.

40 - ((Double round robin (3 + 3) + championship week (1)) * 4) = 12, .  Do the championship similar to 2020 with 1+2 and 3+4 playing.

Hadn't thought about there being a championship with only four teams but it would make life easier for all.  +1

ASC office tells me they are still discussing scheduling options. Obviously, I'll be sure to publicize it whenever I get something concrete on scheduling plans, though that may not be decided for a little while. A championship game definitely seems like it could work. Works well in the MIAC/SCIAC and would add one more quality game to the schedule...UMHB playing HSU 3 times in the regular season? Would definitely feel more like basketball in that sense...could create some very interesting dynamics.

The ASC will not have an auto bid next season, correct?  Couldn't remember if there is a grace period in there if teams drop below 6 for a season or two.

Two year, so the clock starts in 2024 (no impact from the TLU early departure)

But regardless, this was where the ASC was going to shape out to be. Correct?

Isn't it weird knowing the reason all the other teams are leaving the asc is kinda irrelevant now considering all the players entering the transfer portal?

Correct, the only real effect that TLU leaving a year early has is on scheduling conference games.  The 2 year grace period would have already started once the conference went under 6.

Playing the same team 3 times certainly wouldn't be good for the chances of both making the playoffs.

With this type of schedule the days of the ASC getting two in are surely gone.

Looks like it isn't only UMHB getting hit by the transfer portal.  HSU getting hit pretty hard too:

The complete incompetence of the ASC office through this is maddening.

Total radio silence.  No lifelines or encouraging words of progress.

If ETBU, UMHB, HPU, and HSU aren't individually trying to find their own places they are insane.  And if they are....wouldn't it be great for them to ease the concerns of their fans/alum/boosters

Don't forget the players. They are the ones personally effected by this situation.

Very true...but one would hope that the universities are going to do what's best for their athletes.

I go back and forth between what / who the Cru should consider bringing in as a HC replacement for Harmon. Initially I think about a up and coming proven Texas HS coach, but I could be onboard with robbing another ASC team. I remember watching Jordan Neal as a player, and even had the pleasure of meeting his dad a couple times when I was rooting for the opposing team, and super impressed.

I think he could shine at a program like UMHB

I'm starting to get the vibe that he isn't getting replaced... hopefully I'm wrong.
