Since I'm bored, here is a spreadsheet with all of the kids who have said UMHB has offered them so far:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EBXnYmF_xOSzLTPsObwab9zldMuRlGNE9xIZCyEuVZo/edit?usp=sharing

Haven't seen any commits yet...

Thank you for putting this together!!

NP, updated it with the first two actual commits on a commit tab.  Transfer RB who started at OSU then went to Navarro College, comes in with 2 years of eligibility and a D2 transfer CB from Southwest Baptist. who also has 2 years of eligibility left.

Thanks! The running back can play, good looking player. A little different than some of the backs we've had in years past because he's not a scat back and he's not really our usual bigger power back, he's kind of in between. But I would expect to see him contributing, good pickup.

Speaking of the running backs room, I'm hearing through the grape vine that Ozias Wright is working on getting an additional year of eligibility. Was really impressed with him last season, so hoping he can get that secured.

I wouldn't be mad at it
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

The portal craziness continues. ASC leader in sacks, ETBU's Jahkamian Carr, is now in the portal as well. I'm not sure what the ASC is going to look like next year. ETBU, UMHB, HPU, and HSU have all lost key starters to the portal...and we're only in December. The season ended almost exactly a month ago.

The interesting thing is I'm seeing some visits with other ASC schools.  Also saw a Sul Ross Xfer visited UMHB.

Other ETBU players to leave:

3rd Team All  ASC DB Daevien Willis (visited UMHB)
https://x.com/DATBOY_DWill23/status/1726709697611452761?s=20

1st Team All ASC DL Christian Booker:
https://x.com/Booker_96_/status/1735038770825621657?s=20

1000 yard passing QB Carlos Garibay:
https://x.com/ykitslos3/status/1726762737085153667?s=20

1st Team all ASC DB Kenneth Bradley jr:
https://x.com/KJBradley15/status/1727064807285924090?s=20

Looks like some of the defense leaving is because their DC is leaving.

Edit: Talk about fast, Jahkamian Carr already has an offer from HPU.

Offers for what? To pay tuition and room and board and tryout for football? Heck, I could get an offer from UMHB and I'm 46 years old and fat. Well, maybe not. I did use up a year of eligibility playing soccer almost 30 years ago. But all I'd have to do is send in application paperwork and pay the application fee and they'd "offer" me the chance to pay to come to school the same way they "offer" over 90% of the people who apply.

Check a box saying I'd like to tryout for football, show up at the right time in August and I've been "offered" by a college football team? No doubt I'd be sent to the very back of whatever line they have, be it cuts or just the hopeless end of the practice field, but I'd have the same "offer" anyone in the portal has gotten.

How strange and impressive D3 has gotten these days!

Or an offer to apply for need or merit based scholarships that 75 percent of division 3 athletes receive... Or an offer to be able to compete for a roster spot and playing time that they might not get at another institution or higher division. It is basically a way for a team to say "hey, if you go through all of the work to apply and go through the process to get accepted we want you here".

Athletes can't receive scholarships at a disproportionate rate or amount to the general population of a D3 school. So yeah, 75%, but most of D3 on average offers financial aid of some kind or another to at least 75% of students attending schools. The Leadership Scholarships schools tried in the 90s and 00s were heavily scrutinized on these grounds. As for the rest, that's about right. Not much of an offer. But I suppose a nice indication of interest. It just makes me laugh when fans start talking about all the "offers" from other D3 schools their incoming players got. The only "offer" you get in D3 is admission and a bill, as large or little as that bill may be.

If you like the "offers" I bet you would love the Division III Celebratory Signing Form.

https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2016/2/22/division-iii-celebratory-signing-form.aspx

jknezek

Actually I don't mind those too much. Yes, the actual "signing" is the signing of the deposit check, which the NCAA makes very clear when you try and download the form! But it's something official that commemorates something that actually happened... a student athlete is agreeing to go to the school and is likely intending to try out for a sport. If the school wants to aid in that celebration, I understand it.

The concept of an "offer" for a sport in D3 means nothing, literally, unless it is the receipt of the student's acceptance, which has nothing to do with athletics. So an "offer" to play a sport is flat out ridiculous, whereas "signing" to try out for a sport after getting accepted is something that actually has some meaning. It is a bit silly, since it's non-binding, but since the deposit check is mildly binding, or at least punishing if you back out of attending, it at least has some attached consequence, even if that consequence has little to nothing to do with athletics.

Anyway, it doesn't bother me as much because it is something that celebrates the student athlete who is already agreeing to attend. The "offer" is just something made up to brag about when your school lands a recruit that other schools might have been interested in.

You aren't wrong, although it does seem like the students may like the offers more than the actual "signing" because then they get to brag that they have been "offered" x number of times. Just adding to this, far as I know no D3 athlete has to go through the transfer portal but they want to announce that too.

Hey, that 75% number of the NCAA DIII's number.  I get it, we all get it.  But I'm not going to rain on some 17-19 year old kid's parade when they're just out there trying to continue doing something they love.  There is really no difference betwen this and people celebrating a Preferred Walk On offer or Recruited Walk On Offer.  I suppose I can change it to "was also recruited by ____".

y_jack_lok

Interesting conversation about "offers". Seems mostly semantic. On the other hand, suppose a student athlete is interested in playing at a certain school, but that school doesn't reciprocate the interest. In such case does that mean there was no "offer"?

Yeah, we're pretty much arguing semantics at this point.  I'd hope that most of the coaching staffs at the D3 level are targeting kids they think can compete for a roster spot out of college.  I truly think this is evident just by looking at the number of schools that the recruiting staff visit vs the number of kids who post that UMHB had recruiting interest in them.  I mean, if a kid shows up who wasn't recruited and tries to walk on, I don't think they're going to turn them away.

In other news, UMHB picks up another D2 transfer from Southwest Baptist:

Scratch the transfer above. He deleted his post. Not sure if coming or not. But, 2nd team all asc offensive lineman Garri Smith appears to be transferring from ETBU to UMHB.
