I don't have any inside info, but I would have to guess that UWRF and Trinity owe us a home game. If that's the case, I hope UMHB learns from last year and doesn't fill out the two remaining non-conference openings with brutal opponents. UWRF, Trinity and HSU (twice) are going to be tough enough.

Seems like there are more one-and-done deals going these days; St. John's isn't paying a return visit to San Antonio this season.  Guess we'll see!

Pat Coleman

That was a guarantee game -- Trinity has hosted those in the past as well, paying guarantees for someone to come in.

Only non-conference game thus far is Whitewater (third week). UWRF & Trinity were one year deals.

Riley Zayas

Unless something has changed, there is no Whitewater game in Week 3. That was a home-and-home deal for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. UMHB currently has Weeks 1, 2, 3, and 4 open according to the D3football.com Open Dates page.

Hey everyone, good to have the boards back and running.

I recall hearing on one of coach Harmon's Tuesday BBQ interviews (towards the end of the season) that he did regret scheduling multiple top 10 caliber opponents. Obviously that was after we were out of playoff contention and the season was about over... but he did say it. So I would expect and easier non con. Maybe one top 25 opponent and then 3 more winnable games in the other spots.

I wonder if last season makes anyone more open to scheduling umhb or it will be one of those years where you schedule whoever will play you?

Ron Boerger

With this year's double-round robin schedule, the ASC teams all have to find four non-conference opponents - not going to be easy given how few spots most potential opponents from larger conferences have left.  The fact that UMHB and HSU are two of the teams looking for four games are going to make it even harder.

That said, Cory Hogue on Feb 6th said HPU only needed one more (have SAGU, Lyon, Wittenberg lined up), HSU, which "struggled the most" had two lined up and one pending contract approval, and did not say anything about UMHB but if you read between the lines it would imply they had at least three already lined up.

The CRU have another 2 yr. deal with Whitewater. We play there this year.

ANOTHER 2 YEAR DEAL!!??

cruman32

Yes, another 2 yr. deal with Whitewater. 2024 there, 2025 here.

So much for Harmon learning from 2023. Let's see if he can get home-and-homes with North Central, Wartburg, and Linfield while he's at it.  ;)

I understand it's hard to find non-conference games, but surely there must be some SCAC or SAA teams looking for opponents. Many of them have the same geographical scheduling disadvantage that UMHB does.

Okay, so putting the pieces together based on what others have said here.

Assuming Cruman32 is correct, UMHB 2024 non conf schedule will look something like the following:

(home) UW River-Falls
(home) Trinity Tx
(away) UW Whitewater
(OPEN SPOT)

Then Conference play where we have to play top 10 Hardin Simmons twice, lol.

I'm all for scheduling big time programs, but the goal is to make the post season and our team last year goes 0-3 against that non con schedule 9/10 times.

Obviously we are all hoping to put last year behind us and see some MAJOR steps forward from our team, because last year was not Cru Football.

This season is feeling more and more like do or die for this staff every day that goes by. I will be there rooting for the boys rain or shine, but it doesn't seem like any lessons were actually learned in regards to scheduling.

Side note, I do wonder now that Jack has left the program if Harmon will call the defenses directly, might not be such a bad thing if so. We'll see.

How did the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association operate differently from the ASC? Were there differing politics involved? Why was a new conference formed in '96 in the first place? Why couldn't everyone stay in the same conference under the same name?

Before my time as I didn't start following it much until UMHB started a football team :D

On another note, anyone heard any juicy rumors about new DC and/or other coaching changes?
