Why would you be sick of it? It allows your school's football team to get a cake walk through the first 3 rounds of the playoff every year.

They haven't cleared the second round in two of the last four tournaments so maybe this post needs recalibrating.

Just imagine how many second round exits they'd have if they received the kind of pairings that UMHB does every single time.

Sure, if he had actually given the kid the car. If they're going say that letting someone borrow it to go look for a job is an "illegal benefit", then they might as well start penalizing teams when the coaches give their players words of encouragement. Afterall, they confer a "benefit" as well.  ;D

Bottom line is, if the NCAA did even the slightest bit if due diligence, they could easily dig up 100x worse at most of the top programs. The reality is, they decided to make an example of an 'outsider' program that was starting to take over where once the eastern and midwestern programs dominated. This despite the fact that they tried to do the right thing by self-reporting, despite the fact that it was a minor "infraction" that they could have easily covered up. Again, this tells you all you need to know about the NCAA's deferential enforcement of it's rules.

you've convinced me.  UMHB just simply got too good, the other D3 football programs had to cry to the NCAA to stop them.  It all makes complete sense.  All of the other programs that had similar, or better on-field success than UMHB were from the East or Midwest!!!!  The NCAA has to learn a lesson, I think that Pat (and anyone within 500 miles, flights are pricey) will join me in storming the NCAA offices next week to hoist a UMHB flag up.  This geographical bias must be stopped!!!!
I'm glad you've seen the light. Now go troll somewhere else. Nobody here likes you.

I like him. He is funny and has made this board more entertaining than ever before.  Really, it gets boring when UMHBFANBOYS keep saying how great they are.

I guess I should have specified that none of the ASC fans on the ASC board like him.

Maybe you can invite him to go troll on the SCAC board if anyone ever decides to start posting there.  ;)

I'm the ultimate "I don't have a dog in this fight" person.  Ours failed due to mismanagement.  Yours failed because no one likes you.  You're the bully in the neighborhood that complains about not having any friends, after bullying everyone in the neighborhood.

BSCpanthers

No reason to be ashamed, but can't blame the others for wanting to join a conference that they feel they can be more competitive.  You played the game differently than them, no foul in that, but they want to play with others that play the same way they do.

It's happening at every level right now.  FBS will be divided for the same reason, just with more zeros behind the dollar sign.  Some schools see the benefit of simply having an athletics program, other schools see the benefit of having a successful athletics program.  One of BSC's errors were our attempt to having a success athletic program, it wasn't out downfall, but starting the football program was part of the building we did in the 2000's that did lead to out endowment being drained.

What I find interesting is that if this is really because of domination, it doesn't make sense unless it truly is only because of football.

Unless these schools knew Trinity was going to leave, which doesn't seem to be the case, they joined or stayed with a conference that Trinity has dominated for 30 years. On the way out the door Trinity is going to win its 13 straight President's Trophy and will have won 24 out of the last 31! The 7 years they didn't win, they got 2nd to a school that isn't in the SCAC anymore (DePauw).

Obviously Trinity isn't staying so that big bad wolf isn't a problem but it shows this isn't only about conference championships.

Nothing at this level is as simple as one reason but man do I wish we could have some real insight to the list of reasons. The only thing that seems to connect the 4 remaining programs is the fact that we are Baptist schools, maybe because of that we voted as a block on most things/everything and that frustrated others, I will never know.

I DO think it's multifaceted as to why so many have abandoned ship.

But I also think the domination of UMHB and HSU is the driving factor.

JMHO.

In the SCAC....they will likely see a different football champion most seasons.  The likelyhood of any of them dominating is lower.   New schools winning the conference allows new faces to advance to the playoffs for the first time in a generation.  Even if they are one and done most years..... they can at least hang their hat on that occasional playoff appearance.  Something that had almost zero chance of happening with UMHB or HSU.

This.

BUT.....my argument in defense of HSU and UMHB (whom ETBU has struggled against since the inception of football in 2000)..... aren't there other conferences/teams with equal or similar domination?

Mount Union?  Augustana?  Wisconsin-Whitewater?  Ithaca?

Is the same discontent found in their conferences?

Ron Boerger

It's at least partly the conference doing the "see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil" approach while it bled teams.  The last school to join was Belhaven, nearly ten years ago.  Before that, if you exclude McMurry's return after dallying with D2, it was Centenary who joined in '11 and turned around and left the very next year.

The ASC lost a few schools in the early-mid teens, but the exodus snowballed during and immediately after the pandemic.
